So, I have a day off of work and have no idea what to do with myself.

I read back a bit that somebody posted a few weeks back about what the things are that we miss here the most.

I was thinking, it being November, and the month of Thanksgiving and all, that maybe we should tweak that a little, and think instead about the things here that we're most grateful for. There's got to be something we like about this place, no matter how little it is? A person we have here that we don't have back home. Something we don't have to face here...something that just brightens our day a little.

It's not been easy for any of us, being pulled out of our homes and brought to this place, but maybe by thinking of something good that's happened to us since we've been here, we can kind of pull together? Or maybe that's just sunny Summer thinking.

Anyway.

I'm grateful for Lily, and I love Hinkleburgers.

Lissa, Georgia and I have taken your concerns into consideration and discussion. In response for a request of our intentions we're releasing a brief statement of issues we deemed important and will therefore address at the first Council meeting.

The issues follow as:
- Guardianship for those under 18
- The ban of magic
- Use of the hospital facilities
- New arrivals

1. Guardianship.

We propose that financially stable Refugees present become guardians for any new arrivals under 18 years of age. You'll also be given first priority if a member of your family arrives, financial status notwithstanding. In order for this to be effective we've determined that volunteers should step forward if you're willing and able to take on a child. You should tell us the age group you're comfortable with, if you're comfortable with magic users, and how many children you are able to care for. In addition, the children already present should be given a choice about coming under the guardianship of Refugees or staying with their assigned family.

2. Magic ban.

We're against the ban of magic as a whole and will appeal to the Council to remove it entirely.

3. The hospital.

We've agreed that our population should be permitted to use the hospital services, as the separation from hospital to clinic has split resources and left the city as a whole exposed to health concerns that effect us all, Refugee and local alike.

4. New arrivals.

Given the treatment by the city many of us receive upon arrival, we're requesting that one of our number be present during the initial welcoming phases with new arrivals. We need several volunteers to be on hand for this task as new arrivals appear in the city at any hour.

Hey guys! This is the official Halloween party thread. You may tag into it ICly and interact with each other, or you may tag it OOC and just tell us what your character(s) did or are doing for the night. The hall was officially decorated by Caroline, there's food with the appropriate Halloween themes, music and general entertainment. Justine did also add in a gaudy Halloween sign that says 'Happy Birthday Harry' and there will be cake. There is a costume contest, I don't know how you guys want to decide who won that, but go for it and have fun! Justine is also personally greeting everyone and handing out bags of assorted candy.

Let's have a discussion.

Roland seems to have touched a nerve, so I'm officially asking everyone here:

1.) Do you feel unsafe? If so, who/what group are you worried about?
2.) If you do, why? Please mention whether or not this feeling is colored by previous experiences in your own timelines.
3.) What are some ideas you have for alleviating this problem, that you think could be implemented? We all have ideal solutions, but let's focus on pragmatics.

If you don't feel comfortable addressing some of these questions publically, feel free to either tell me privately in some way or say you don't feel comfortable. It's fine, but if you don't say anything at all, even to abstain from answering, we can't know your thoughts and consider them.

In terms of ideas, so far there's been Roland's suggestion of a protective force (which I object to, but I'm one vote). I'd also like to suggest the idea of escorting people, or setting up checks of some sort within the community for those who are interested.

I have been brought here, perhaps as a gift for those who seek prosperity, for those shamed by the unnatural order of this world and her justice, for those who long for peace and contentment in a world torn by war and unrest. I have been brought here as a curse to those who do not heed warnings, who delight in misgivings and pain without progress.

Just so you know, I haven't changed my mind. None of this today has scared me, just annoyed me.

Hi. My name is Harry Dresden, I'm a wizard - I've been a wizard since I was ten. I don't have a sober date from my magic use. But. There are supernatural presences in the city, I'm one of them. I know some stuff about the others. And I get why anyone would be afraid. The sane reaction is to be afraid. But you also have to be smart about it.

So here's some guidelines about those I know or suspect to be hanging around the city.

General rules:

1. Don't make yourself a target. What that means is you need to find a balance between aggression and submission. If you face a vampire or a werewolf and look overly aggressive while doing so it will cause tension and you may be tempting them to fight, even if you don't mean to. Alternately, if you show yourself as being weak you will paint yourself as a viable target. Predators pick the weak and dying. If you need help figuring this out, I will help you.

2. Wizards exist. Bad wizards are called warlocks. Bad wizards will use bad magic and try to hurt you. You can avoid this in the most basic ways by never leaving around nail clippings, hair, or blood. If you suspect someone is or may target you with bad magic tell me or Carlos Ramirez. We're trained to handle these situations.

3. Trust your instincts. Magic, the supernatural and the creatures therein leave a residue in the air and around them, and you can typically feel if something's off about a situation. Know your body, know it's reactions, and know what you'd do normally in situations in the event you start behaving differently.

4. Your home is your safehouse. Most of these creatures cannot cross thresholds unless they're invited. Be absolutely certain about the people you invite into your home. And if you're not certain, let them in without an invitation. It will cripple any supernatural creature to a fraction of what they're capable of. Which really pisses everyone off, but they'll not be able to hurt you.

Dealing with vampires:

1. To my knowledge there are three different types of vampires.

a. Red Court. - Reds are creatures that disguise themselves as humans, and prey upon actual humans. They drink blood. When they're in their natural forms they're these giant creepy looking bat-like things. They are really, really super fast and strong. And they can shrug off a massive amount of damage in a really unfair turn around time. But, they are vulnerable to sunlight, and if you cut open their bellies during an attack it will disable them, if not kill them. Their saliva has a narcotic in it, which will make you less and less inclined to resist them and is highly addictive.

b. Black Court. Blacks are creepy undead things that smell like rotting corpses and don't look much better. These are classic vampires and can be found in Dracula, since we published the book so everyone would know anyway. Their weaknesses are all of Dracula's. Garlic, tokens of faith (any faith), sunlight, running water and cutting their heads off. They're also super quick, superior and smarter than most humans. They also sleep during the day but their dens are not easily penetrable. If you suspect a Black is after you or someone you know Do Not go after them yourself. You will die.

c. White Court. Whites are the most human in appearance and nature. They feed on energy and human emotion - lust, fear, and despair. They're not as strong, fast or deadly as the other courts, but that also means they don't have the same weaknesses. Sunlight, tokens of faith, garlic etc. do not bother Whites at all. The best way to deal with Whites is not get involved with them if you can help it. They can cross thresholds uninvited, but it leaves their abilities at the door.

Faeries:

1. Do not make deals with faeries. Period. Do not talk to them, suggest anything to them or ask them questions. They cannot divulge information without you paying them back for it. They literally can't.

2. If you have a death wish and want to talk to them anyway and you're not certain what they're saying is true, compel them three times with the same question and they'll answer true. They can't lie, but they make a game of twisting words. Never trust what a faerie says, period.

3. You can't win against them in fights. They're immortal, they're nature itself and you'll only really piss them off if you try. But they're susceptible to iron and it really freaking hurts.

Werewolves:

1. There are two main uh... categories, with sub-categories. A werewolf is a person who can transform into a wolf with magic. That's the only magic they know how to use and only their bodies change. The rest of their minds stay human, so they know what they're doing the entire time, and can do it with the abilities of a wolf.

Wolven theriomorphs include hexenwolves, loup garous and lycanthropes. I have less information on these than I'd like, but it'd be easier to answer specific questions than giving general guideliens since they have specific details. There's no one way to fight these guys off other than not trying if you don't have the skill. Some of them are human some of them the wolf entirely. And it's hard to tell on a good day.

Angels & Demons:
Just don't.

Zombies:
No one kills Georgia Mason that doesn't know how to kill zombies or create their own hazmat zone. If you try to eat her, kill her, or do anything else that makes her die a little she'll die and kill the rest of us doing so. Okay?

Yeah, okay. I'm going to be the first one to bite the bullet and be honest. You know, as a show of faith, or whatever.

I've got this thing inside going on with me that's dangerous for everyone. It's called a Mantle, the Winter Mantle, and it makes me have some questionable motives. I'm working on containing it, but it's best if you just know how to handle it.

I'm highly allergic to iron, and it really really pisses me off when it touches me. But if you stick me properly it'll.. stop me in my tracks pretty effectively. Don't tell me what piece of iron you're carrying or where you have it because I'll know to be wary of it. Which is the exact opposite of this message.

And if you stick me just to see what happens you won't like it. Period.

And as Fix has said, if you're afraid of me, I do something bad, or questionable contact him or Michael Carpenter. They're the best bet you have of stopping me from being stupid.

We may have just as much to worry about from some of the other people trapped here as we do from this council. Be careful who you admit you're not "normal" to.

Before you shout me down, listen. I'm not saying I condone their methods. I'm utterly against them, particularly when it's children that that they're targeting. That's wrong. What they're doing is wrong.

It's not nearly as clear-cut as us against them though, is it? There are people with dangerous abilities here, and while some of them are just like you and me? Others might mean us harm. Maybe we ought to be less trusting of people just because they've arrived here the same as we have.

Hello, my name's Justine. I'm also a refugee to Madison Valley, and I need your help. My partner Thomas is a vampire from, what in my world we call the White Court. What that means is that he's an incubus so instead of feeding on blood he feeds on lust. Usually through sex.

I'm incapable of providing sustenance to him myself, so I'm searching for one or more partners, who would be willing to become a source of sustenance for him. There are a lot of things you need to understand before you make this decision, so I'd like to talk to anyone even slightly curious about what this will entail, in depth. That said, he or I will answer your questions, but I didn't want to include him on this filter in the event you rather not speak to him immediately. I don't want him to scare you Though I can add him to it if you'd rather talk to him directly.

As many of you do not have Social Security Numbers, or other means of identification, we would like each of you to come by the Clerk's office and fill out some paper work. We will be taking fingerprints, a blood sample, pictures, and asking some information about you, to keep on record.

If you do not come to the Clerk's office and register, you will be unable to find employment in the town, as this information is now required for payroll.
