I went to Walmart today to pick out a turkey, and it was kind of overwhelming how many of them they had. All sizes, shapes, prices...what's the difference between a natural turkey and an organic turkey? Is a twelve pound one more tender than a thirty pound one? How much of the weight is bone and how much is actually meat?

I didn't know that picking out a turkey was such a difficult thing to do.

Could someone give me some pointers on how to make a proper Thanksgiving dinner? We never had food like that in District Twelve, and I wasn't here early enough last year to have the chance to make one.

I really want to do a traditional - and hopefully edible - meal for Gale and myself, and I'm really kind of at a loss. I know you need a turkey, and potatoes and pie...but I'm pretty sure there's more to it than that. Not to mention I've never actually cooked a turkey.

The street has been closed off for the music festival. People have brought their blankets and claimed prime places by the stage. It's a lovely fall day, the weather's cool but not cold, and there's a lot of sunshine to make things that much more pleasant. Beth and her helpers have decorated the stage and the area around it with pumpkins and scarecrows and and autumn harvest theme. Food trucks line the street selling every conceivable cuisine.

If you haven't yet signed up to perform, you still can. The music will start at noon and will go until Midnight, come find a place and enjoy a beautiful day of music by the river!

I like the autumn, but it also makes me a little sad. Although some of that might have to do with how hard winter was for people back in District Twelve I mean, I like the sunshine, and it seems like there's so little of it in the winter.

Like always, what people have at the campout is what they choose to bring. It's an easy-going affair, like anything Magnus would plan. There's food and a campfire, and whatever else people choose to do. Magnus basically plans this to just be a night for the younger residents of Madison Valley to just get away and enjoy themselves away from the adults. Tonight is a little more energetic than usual though, because it's the last one until Spring. Magnus managed to bring along a few guitars and some energy drinks to keep them up all night.

Finch has rented a very nice shelter area at the park. There's plenty of room for eating and a playground for the children when they get bored. She's brought hamburgers and hotdogs for all, but hopefully everyone else will bring a dish as well. She's looking forward to the gathering, and has been ever since she read about family reunions in the newspaper. They're not a family, exactly, but in a lot of ways, they're close enough.

My dad was nice. He was the mayor of District 12, and we lived in a nice house on the square. I had it a lot better off than most people I knew, and that made me feel really bad a lot of the time.

But I miss my dad. He died in the bombing that killed me.

McNair taught me how to survive, how to kill vampires, how to get ready for the change each full moon.

He died back home. Killed by a really old vampire. I wrapped his body up and buried him.



I wish Eve had her dad here. He was a real nice guy.

Swimming is lovely.

I went down to Crystal Beach - the pool right off Broadway by the river - today, and swam for the very first time in my life. I didn't get very deep, of course, I'm still learning, but I got up to my waist in the water and splashed around a little.

I'm not sure how to describe it, but...I guess I never knew water could be so...soft.

If that makes any sense at all.

I went for a walk around town today. From one end to the other and back again!

It's the longest walk I've taken since I arrived here; I must truly be getting better. It's been a long road of healing, but I'm glad that it seems that the doctors and healers were right - I will make a full recovery.
