Who: Mary Crawley Crane and OTA What: Shopping for maternity clothes Where: Walmart When: Monday Warnings: Probably none
With her growing stomach, it was getting hard for Mary to move around the tea house. She knew that she wasn't even close to how big she would get, but being nearly 6 months pregnant meant that she was definitely showing. Maternity clothing was much different in this time than it was in hers. In the 20s it was all baggy, unshapely blouses or dresses. In this era, some of the maternity clothing actually looked cute. Women were much more apt to show off their pregnant stomaches now than they were then.
While Walmart usually wasn't the place Mary went for clothing, she was looking for some relatively cheap items. The quality wasn't particularly up to her par, but she would only have to wear them for the next three months. It didn't make sense to spend a lot of money on maternity clothes. She didn't see herself wanting another child after Abigail was born, though admittedly she and Ichabod had not had that conversation yet.
Lily had given her a few pieces of her maternity clothing, so Mary was simply looking to supplement with a few more. There were pants that Mary briefly considered, then put back on the rack. She only wore pants to ride and she wanted to keep it that way. There were some aspects of her former life that she still kept. Finding a long skirt, Mary held it up to herself and stood at the mirror in the middle of the maternity department. She was trying to determine whether or not it would fit around her without actually having to go into a fitting room.
