I know some of you think that you're better than the townspeople because of your abilities, but all you're doing is proving to them that we are dangerous.

New Years Eve party, yes/yes? This is a thing we should be planning. Unless this crappy little town is already having one.

Which of us are making dinner tonight? I'm craving Thai food, but I'm not sure there is a delivery place or even if we have the ingredients to make our own Thai at the house.

So on the way home from work today, these guys - about my age, I guess, maybe a little older - started yelling things at me. Not nice things, either. Calling me all these rude names and, well, uh, casting aspersions on my masculinity because of where I was working.

I don't get it.

In this world, it seems that there are things that men are supposed to do and things that women are supposed to do, and it doesn't seem right. It's not that way so much at home, I don't think. I mean, just as many girls have won the games as guys have, and I can think of a lot of guys I'd rather face in a fight before I faced Clove or Johanna.

Why can't we all just do what we're good at? Yeah, I'm better at baking and painting and stuff like that than hunting or woods stuff. That's what Katniss does. And what's wrong with that, on either side?

We know that Davina Claire is living in your household and that you both retrieved her from the Town Council when she arrived. I need to know which of your names I should put on the paperwork as being her official guardian so the Town Council knows we're taking care of our own and they don't think about removing her and placing her with someone else. Part of our agreement with the Town Council was that we would be allowed to select among our own population for guardians for children, but we have to have all of the paperwork filled out and filed.

I demand a night off from the crazy. I'm not suggesting we throw a party or anything, but there has to be something fun to do around here, right? I say we do it. No Council business, no drama. Just friends hanging around and having a good time. You know, like the normal teenagers we're not.

We've had some additions to our numbers since our last request for guardianship of those under 18. And some of our previous volunteers have disappeared.

In accordance with the city council's decision, our youth are being allowed to choose whether they remain with their appointed guardian or if they wish to pass into the hands of our own volunteers. The volunteers themselves are being asked to undergo a background check and social services will visit your residence--which must be established prior to acceptance of a child--to insure that the living space is appropriate for children.

Family are exempted from the process and may take their relatives immediately.

That said, if you wish to volunteer to take on a child respond here. We would also like to know if you have issues with magic, how many children you are willing and able to take on and what age range you would prefer.

Michael disliked all the rules imposed. And it was taking him a lot, and by a lot we mean A LOT to not lose his temper. Though there were days he couldn't help it once things began to build up. He kept it all bottled in which for Michael wasn't good. Now today was one of those days where the lid blew off.

Walking past a certain area Lissa might just take notice of lights flickering, and a few bulbs exploding. Michael was doing his best to pull it back under control. At least he was in a far part of town away from the councils' eyes, well save hers. He was a frustrated alien hybrid and he will apologize.

Don't be too hard on him Lissa, at least he isn't hurting anyone.

I read back a bit that somebody posted a few weeks back about what the things are that we miss here the most.

I was thinking, it being November, and the month of Thanksgiving and all, that maybe we should tweak that a little, and think instead about the things here that we're most grateful for. There's got to be something we like about this place, no matter how little it is? A person we have here that we don't have back home. Something we don't have to face here...something that just brightens our day a little.

It's not been easy for any of us, being pulled out of our homes and brought to this place, but maybe by thinking of something good that's happened to us since we've been here, we can kind of pull together? Or maybe that's just sunny Summer thinking.

Anyway.

I would like it to be known that I have no desire to be removed from my host family's care until Sebastian. Is there an official edict I must sign to ensure it remains so?

Lissa, Georgia and I have taken your concerns into consideration and discussion. In response for a request of our intentions we're releasing a brief statement of issues we deemed important and will therefore address at the first Council meeting.

The issues follow as:
- Guardianship for those under 18
- The ban of magic
- Use of the hospital facilities
- New arrivals

1. Guardianship.

We propose that financially stable Refugees present become guardians for any new arrivals under 18 years of age. You'll also be given first priority if a member of your family arrives, financial status notwithstanding. In order for this to be effective we've determined that volunteers should step forward if you're willing and able to take on a child. You should tell us the age group you're comfortable with, if you're comfortable with magic users, and how many children you are able to care for. In addition, the children already present should be given a choice about coming under the guardianship of Refugees or staying with their assigned family.

2. Magic ban.

We're against the ban of magic as a whole and will appeal to the Council to remove it entirely.

3. The hospital.

We've agreed that our population should be permitted to use the hospital services, as the separation from hospital to clinic has split resources and left the city as a whole exposed to health concerns that effect us all, Refugee and local alike.

4. New arrivals.

Given the treatment by the city many of us receive upon arrival, we're requesting that one of our number be present during the initial welcoming phases with new arrivals. We need several volunteers to be on hand for this task as new arrivals appear in the city at any hour.

Refugees of Madison Valley,

I am treating a patient at the moment who is very ill with a chronic illness, and the blood tests I have taken have come back extremely odd. I am in need of blood samples from anyone willing to give, for comparison - this is absolutely voluntary, and those of you who have made it clear that your blood is dangerous to public safety are not asked to give.

For those of you who are healthy and willing, you may stay with me while I test the blood, and watch me put the samples in the autoclave to destroy them. You may even have the sterilized tube back, if you wish it. I have no magical abilities to do malicious anything with your blood, and I have no wish to keep it; I simply wish to find out what is the matter with my patient.

I thank you in advance, and again I reiterate that this is absolutely voluntary.

The hall was officially decorated by Caroline, there's food with the appropriate Halloween themes, music and general entertainment. Justine did also add in a gaudy Halloween sign that says 'Happy Birthday Harry' and there will be cake. There is a costume contest, I don't know how you guys want to decide who won that, but go for it and have fun! Justine is also personally greeting everyone and handing out bags of assorted candy.

I've come up with an idea. I don't know if it's a good idea, but it is an idea.

Would it be possible for us to put together some kind of orientation for new arrivals? This would serve us well in two ways:

1) It might prevent jumping to conclusions and misunderstandings like we've seen in the most recent days.

2) It gives some people something to do instead of sitting back and waiting for something bad to happen. If they're working on something constructive for our community then they might have less time to think up all kinds of bad situations.

Hello, Refugees of Madison Valley. For those of you who don't know, my name is Justine Williams. I am a Refugee from Chicago 2009. I currently work in Madison Valley's City Hall, and they've requested I gather official persons nominated to stand as our representatives to the council. The longer we delay the longer the issues fester.

There has been some discussion but no official decisions on how we'd choose our representation. The city requested we fill 3 seats, but with the number of different peoples in the city it was suggested we broaden our categories to fill everyone in. The results of that listing ends like this:

However, with the lack of persons nominated, holding a category of five presents issues with representation if one person wins multiple slots, and we lose the point of having multiple categories to begin with. You'll all know me and that I have no interest in any...collective sentiment or anything of the sort, but there are a lot of us here who are young and dealing with things we wouldn't have to in our own timelines and we deserve to have representation.

You know me and you know also that I set up a network against the Council so I'm not going to be intimidated by their authority. If there's not a better candidate, I'll nominate myself. But I'm realistic and I know that I'm young even by our standards and there's very probably someone who will be more accepted.

I believe in democracy and while I know that the whole of my ideology isn't a popular one here? We've got specific interests in this specific context that merit working together. Shared interests, shared values.

So, if you'll follow the idea, this is the primary.

If you'd like to be representative, state your case here. We'll choose our candidate. Then we'll support them in the public thread. We've got the numbers, if you're willing to go along with the idea we can at least see that one young person is chosen, even if not your particular favorite candidate.

Nobody's obliged, of course. If you don't like the idea at all I'd ask that if you want to tell me why? Message me privately. I'm happy to talk about it but I don't want to derail the discussion. Let's have it more like datanet and less like internet. I'm not going to tell anyone how to vote but there's a reason why real elections have political parties and chosen candidates. I think it's important that we're listened to. Maybe some of you do, too.

ATTENTION REFUGEES

There has been much discussion among us about the limiting of weapons and dangerous articles among the refugees. However, as we embrace the second amendment as much as any American, we are loathe to seize any weapons that you may have brought with you.

As we have been unable to come to any clear conclusion over what is to be done about this problem, we would like to meet with representatives at a time and place convenient to you. We are sorry that we cannot meet with all of you, but we feel it is better for security reasons to limit the number allowed in the council chambers.

So if it is possible, please choose - or elect - three representatives to come and argue your case before us on this matter.

Who among us has medical training of any sort? I think it would perhaps be prudent if we set up our own medical facility, perhaps in the church, in case these doctors tire of healing us as well.

There seem to be a lot of new arrivals the last couple of days. If you haven't been warned about the council, this is your warning. They don't like people who are different. If you're a magic user, or a vampire, or an incubus, or a werewolf, or anything not totally human, avoid them if you can.
