It's been many years since my dad passed in that horrible mining accident, but it still feels like yesterday, especially on days like this. I know he would want Katniss and I to be happy though and not dwell on it too much. Either way, he helped make us the people we are today and I know we are both grateful for it.

I didn't realize there were so many holidays, until I arrived here.

I was raised by my mother and there was no mention of a father. It was just something I accepted, I never knew to think it strange or odd. It made it so I do not know how a father is to act, and made me glad that Luke is at the age that he does not expect me to be fatherly.

Though I considered him more of a brother than a father, I suppose I would have liked a father like Obi-Wan.

My father was not the easiest man to get along with. He and my mother married like it was a business arrangement and he thought her charming in her youth.

He prefers his own company, enjoys watching others make fools of themselves, and delights in teasing others at their expense.

And yet, he was the one to first arrange our training in the deadly arts, and harsh as he is, our survival has always been paramount to him.

If he were here, I know exactly how he would respond to my wishing him a 'Happy Father's day'. if he were here.  He would say 'thank you, Eliza, but if you were to truly mean that, you might find a way to leave me to read or sharpen my knives in peace."
