Before we disbanded, the Young Avengers had the best Independence Day tradition. Even if we were foiling robberies, preventing college bros from blowing up their frat houses with fireworks, or helping folks hang flags, we made a point of keeping it.
I would kick Eli's butt at video games, then Tommy's while Billy and Teddy snarked and sassed the hell out of them. Cassie was always Team Kate, but I'm pretty sure Billy and Teddy were, too. Even if Billy promised Tommy that he wasn't. We'd decorate the hideout, pretend to be the Avengers - but better - and reward ourselves with the mountain of snacks, play more video games, watch Independence Day, and then go to the roof of the building and watch the fireworks. You can't beat New York city fireworks on July 4th.
When America joined in, we tried to continue some of the traditions. It just wasn't the same, though. Too many people were missing. But we had pancakes. Even at 3 am, we had pancakes. America and I would watch fireworks in one place, go to a different reality, and watch them some more. Cassie would have really liked her. We'd have given the guys a run for their money trying to keep up with us.
Last time I watched fireworks was before I left for California. Billy and Teddy were busy, America was off taking care of business in another reality, so I did my due diligence. Went to the old Bishop Publishing building, decorated the little hideout, and watched fireworks on the roof.
Not sure what the old team is up to this year, but I hope they're having a good time and eating pancakes.
