Dunwich: A Creepypasta Panfandom Game

Tomorrow, we're doing something a little different for finer things club.  Celebrating Dia De Muertos.  This is an explanation that Miguel gave of it.

"It's a couple of days after Halloween. You make an altar, and put things on it to remind you of people who've died. A shot (or more) of their favorite drink, something they'd like to eat like tamales, and then things like pan de muerto, decorated sugar skulls and marigolds, a holo or picture if you have one, and candles. The dead come and visit you and enjoy the gifts, you can drink with them if you want, and eat the tamales and pan de muerto."

There will be an altar in MIST upstairs for the afternoon and evening.  Everyone is invited to come by when they can, bring offerings/gifts for their loved ones and put them on the altar if they wish, and to stay as long as they like to celebrate those that have passed on.  There will be food and music too.   The altar will be there even if it's still dark out.

If you have any questions, you can ask me.  Though if the questions are about the culture or the history of Dia De Muertos, it would be better to ask Miguel.

The finer things club is still happening tonight.  It'll be fall themed, with foods that I hope will be new to some of you.  Some of the recipes were new to me.  There'll be plenty of food - roasted squash croquettes with yuzu crème fraiche, mini turkey pot pies with cranberry gastrique, turkey and dressing croquettes with sage aioli,  poached pear flatbread, pumpkin arancini, honey balsamic roasted root vegetables, etc.  Mostly small bites, but enough of them to make a meal, I think. Dessert too, salted caramel cookies, apple pie croissants, pumpkin spice lamington.   We can talk about fall things too, like the best hiking trails in the state park for looking at leaves.

If you're not familiar with the club, it's for trying new things, not necessarily fancy things.  It's open to everyone, from 8 to 10 at MIST.  I could use some help in getting the food from my apartment to MIST if anyone wants to volunteer.   I've been stress cooking, there'll be lots.

Afterwards, would anyone be interested in an insomnia club?  It would be for those of us who might have trouble sleeping or not want to sleep tonight with the memory stuff happening.  Just hanging out, it doesn't have to be a support group.

Next week's finer things will be Halloween themed since I've noticed this is the first Halloween for Lexa some of you. There'll be jack-o-lantern carving, bring a pumpkin if you can.

So what's Halloween like around here? I've only ever seen an American Halloween in movies and I doubt it's anything like that.

Although, knowing this place, zombies will overrun the town and a pub crawl would be impossible anyway. Which is a pity because I have a great idea for a costume.

If anybody needs to grab something quick to eat, after I run to Roxxcart for supplies I'm going to start putting together brown paper bag lunches at MIST, wherever I can tuck myself out of the way.

You can swing by and grab something or I can run it to you if you can't leave where you are.

Sandwiches, chips, maybe some carrot sticks or celery, bottled water.

This is what happens when I take a second and think things are too quiet.

I'm still on the lookout for my flamingo, in all the hoopla I hope he's okay. So if you see a large pink bird, let either me or my butler Edwin Jarvis know so we can keep him safe.

Status check? It's been so hectic and haywire I'm not sure how everyone is and I want to make sure you're all okay? I know I might seem like nothing much phases me, but you're all important to me (even if we just met here) so...help an old man out.

I really do have the absolute worst timing that I wait to ask you on a date right before everything goes to hell in a handbasket. This isn't a come on precisely, but I'd feel much better if we could stick together until things settle down? Hope that's not too forward.

I know battery life and all that is a big thing right now. That some of you are using the type of phone that doesn't have a headphone jack -- so if you've got your music on there, you're using wireless headphones or the power connecting port for -- you know how it works, don't let me over explain here.

Anyway, you're welcome, I've been working on it and at least the common areas of MIST have wireless charging capabilities now so don't unplug if you don't have to. Just show up here and maybe have a little silent rave with a neighbor.

Introductions are in order. My name is Mr Jarvis and I arrived over a week ago. I've been keeping to myself to become familiar with the curious advancements of this place, including the technology and cultural aspects. I have a lot more to learn, but I feel confident enough to step forward and put myself out there, as it were.

I come from the year 1947, July to be exact, in the middle of a frightful heatwave, I might add. I was, and assuredly still am, employed as butler to Mr Howard Stark, who has been helping me adjust to my new surroundings.

That's all I can think of right now. Except to say that I've been told that it's likely I may come from the same universe as others present in town.

Oh, and the flamingo that you might have spotted around? That is Bernard Stark, he arrived with me but escaped. Please don't hurt him, belongs to Mr Stark and we're trying to retrieve him. Be careful, though, he's devious.

Okay, this has been bugging me for days. Am I going crazy or is there a flamingo somewhere in town?

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.

Nothing that floats.
