✨ Seeking daring and intrepid adventurers! ✨

Greetings, fellow interdimensional travelers and/or refugees! My name is Gilmore, (former) proprietor of Gilmore's Glorious Goods, a sundry boutique specializing in bringing magic into your everyday life-- be you adventurer or not! I am an artificer by trade, which is to say I craft (glorious) enchanted items and magical remedies to enhance your life in all sorts of fabulous ways. As we continue to sort out the where and the how and why to all of this-- I thought my talents might suit our burgeoning community. What I need are ingredients-- whether to brew into potions or to make spell scrolls or (in time) objects imbued with magic. I am interested in contracting with potential suppliers of these ingredients to (eventually) reopen my (glorious)(fabulous)(exceedingly beautiful in every respect) shop while we remain here in Dunwich. Should a particularly intrepid adventurer come across an enchanted item that they do not need or cannot use, I could also be interested in buying it off your hands.

At present moment, I can be found (like many others) at the Pickman House, though I anticipate I will be moving into my own quarters once I find a suitable storefront.

Gloriously,
~ Gilmore 🔮

So this is Earth. The grass sounded greener.

Where has everyone come from if not here?

There might be a place in town that'll allow you to sell gold for cash.

If there isn't, my offer isn't much good, but I'm a fucking leprechaun and I have a hoard, so if you need money, talk to me.

CHAOS, FOG and a PARADE
A STARTING IC/OOC EVENT
ARRIVAL OF THE NEW PEOPLE / THE PARADE The fog has cleared and you find yourself standing in the downtown streets of an unfamiliar town. And you’re not alone. There are dozens of people lining the sidewalks on either side of Main Street, cheering. At first you think they’re excited that the fog has finally lifted, but then you realize that a parade is heading towards you.

But it’s not just any normal parade. This is an all out affair that appears to involve most of the town and its residents. If you’re familiar with Earth history there might even be a kind of nostalgic vibe to the event. The closer you look at the parade, however, the more peculiar it appears. The marching band majorettes, for example, are waving flags with an image of a mutated lobster on it. And the drum corp is dressed like lobsters, banging away at the snare with hands sticking out of their large claws.

There’s a float that rolls by afterwards featuring a teenage girl in a bright pink dress sitting atop a decorative throne. She waves to everyone on the side of the street. “Wow! The pig farm sure crowned a beauty for the pageant this year!” one of the locals says. Sure enough, around the throne are four large swine, devouring slop at the girl’s feet.

A bright blue Cadillac slowly drives after the float. The logo for Dolan’s Auto Shop is written on the side and a man with a wide smile honks toots on the horn which lets out an eerie jingle. After that a group of mimes dance around the crowd. One in front holds up a sign for The Tommyknocker Theatre Troupe.

And so on.

Everyone you try to talk to is friendly. The street vendors offer you free hotdogs and ice cream.

All of it is completely normal.

But then why does it make you feel so uneasy?

NOTES You know the drill! Get in the comments! (Insert Brennan Lee Mulligan gif here.)

If you don't know the drill, that's okay! IC/OOC events can be a little overwhelming when just starting out. I wrote an essay about it here if you want to know what's up.

SPECIAL THANKS Round of applause to our very own Marty McChaa for writing up this lovely event for us and finding the images.

The coding can be found at Tess's patreon if you want to have it on hand for your very own. ♥ We're Tess stans here.

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.

Nothing that floats.
