[After staring at the device for a while, he brings it close to his mouth with a very befuddled expression on his face.]

Greetings. I am Halsin, Archdruid of Emerald Cove. I have been made aware of the plight of your people. I am not only an adept warrior, but an accomplished healer, I would not be troubled to offer my assistance to those in need.

Alas, I am not like my kin who can manipulate the weather, or I would. These storms, they are quite vicious.

To the lady named Sylvie, I wish to thank you properly once I have settled into this communal living space.

I believe there are others here from Faerûn, if I am not mistaken?

It turns out one medussa gorgon is enough to make two potential cures for our petrified friends. Unfortunately only three gorgons have been found and there are eight statues: Wednesday Addams, Rose Tyler, Luke Crain, Benedict Bridgerton, and Ruby Lucas. There are also three locals.

Which brings us to a few uncomfortable questions.

First: who do we try the gorgon oil on first? Anyone want to volunteer their friend? Or shall I pick a local?

Second: if it does work, there are currently two people who won't be getting cured. I don't have strong feelings either case. You can either claim a bottle for someone you know or volunteer them to remain behind. At least until another gorgon can be hunted and found.

I leave it up to all of you.

UPDATE 1:
POTION ONE: Jimmy the Local (test)
POTION TWO: Benedict Bridgerton
POTION THREE: Luke Crain
POTION FOUR: Wednesday Addams
POTION FIVE: Ruby Lucas
POTION SIX: Rose Tyler

UPDATE 2:
The oil works. I have one jar of it left. Whether it goes to Rose Tyler or one of the locals is on the rest of you. Anyone upset they might have taken the oil from someone else can look to the comments and check on who spoke for them.

UPDATE 3:
All of the cures have been spoken for. Remaining statues will be transferred to MIST for safe keeping, assuming an angry god doesn't kill us all in the next couple of days.

The creatures turning your friends to stone are called medussas or gorgons, depending on the world you hail from.1 Specifically the women with snakes for hair that curse you with a look, not the stone looking bull creatures that exhale petrifying breath.

The good news is there's a cure that works on any type of petrification. The bad news is making it. On my world it's an oil that can be created from yet another monster that turns people to stone: the basilisk. Lucky for us, the snakes on top of the medussa's head should be a suitable replacement.

Here's what I need:
  • Someone with a magical background to help me create the medussa oil from their snake hair. I can provide guidance but arcane magic is not my specialty.2

  • A few brave people willing to bring me the medussa bodies.3 Can't create snake oil without a few snakes.
Keep in mind, it takes a good amount of the oil to undo the curse. I suggest praying to the god of your choice that there's more than monster out there to provide us with snake oil.4

Should your friends actually get restored, you can thank Theo.5 She's the one that discovered what was turning people to stone. I suggest killing these creatures before they create more statues. Preferably without getting turned to stone yourself. Have fun with that.

[OOC NOTES:]
1Yeah, D&D is dumb sometimes. I hate that they're called medussas instead of gorgons. >.>

2The part of the arcane helper will be played by Stella via the plot sign up. If you want your magic character to get lightly roasted and turned down by Shadowheart, feel free to try and volunteer them.

3That being said, hunting the medussas gorgons is open to all the fighty/hero types! I'm going to create a mini OOC sign up in the comments. There are only three gorgons, so maybe make a group effort for each one and decide how you're going to get close to the monsters without getting turned to stone yourself. Whether you RP it out ICly or just use the OOC space below to plot out how it goes down is up to you! Either is fine! ♥

4Spoiler Alert: three gorgons are not enough to make eight cures. Why? Because I asked Dawn and Jess if I could be a huge asshole and they said yes. There's enough to make six cures. Sure, it'll be two of the NPCs that misses out, but hopefully it's fun for characters to agonize over. Or is that just me?

5Crystal was the last of the three plot sign ups, so giving them this part of the plot was how their character was involved.

Based on what I'm reading, this is not a normal thing around here.

Do we have a working theory so far about people turning to stone? My theory suggests perhaps Medusa somehow or perhaps a basilisk.

What's being done to fix my brother?

eta: [PATIENTS (bcc to each of them)]
I'm sorry about the last minute message, but I'm going to have to cancel all appointments for the next few days, until my brother is okay. I'll let you know when I'm seeing patients again.

TADPOLE CREW

Hells. Is it just me, or is it getting awfully crowded?

ADDED AFTER: PUBLIC MESSAGE

Yes, hello. I do believe someone from the world that Shadowheart and I come from has arrived here in Dunwich. We've not met them yet but if you come across them, do send them my way? We have a bit of catching up to do, I'm sure.

If anyone comes across a statue that looks suspiciously like a person turned to stone, can you let us know?

[MIST + DUNWICH PD]
There's at least two statues of locals that look like they've been turned to stone. I'm trying to find out if there are any others but maybe the police can block off the areas and keep the statues safe until we know more?

MIST researchers, we should see what we can find out.

[ANYONE WITH MAGIC, OCCULT, SUPERNATURAL BACKGROUNDS]
Anyone have experience with people turned to stone?

Tonight on the radio I will be doing Open Lines, so please do call in to Night Bites if you need any advice.

If you would rather write a question, you may leave it privately here and I'll keep you anonymous as I read it. You have my word that no one shall know it was you.

It'll be fun. I do give the best advice.

[DAVID KOSTYK + NIKOLAI LANTSOV]
I'm interested in extending my contract if that is agreeable with you.

[TEAM TADPOLE*]
It's been just over a week. No fever, no tentacles yet. I'm not ready to say that I'm in the clear, but I'm relieved all the same. I'd still like to look into getting this thing removed if it's all the same to you.

[SPOCK]
Don't think this let's you off the hook. I could still turn. Even if I don't understand why I haven't yet, as long as I have this parasite it remains a threat.

*(Team Tadpole is anyone that knows about the tadpole, has been helping Shadowheart or volunteered their medical expertise to help with brain worm removal. I didn't know what to call it.) :B

Hello, there. A little birdie told me there might be someone from home, newly arrived. I've been the only one here from Faerûn for so long.

WELCOME
Your new life starts here.
CODE BY

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.

Nothing that floats.
