I'm myself again. Margo and I figured out how to break the curse.

It's really quite simple. All you have to do is give the item you purchased from the pawn shop back. We think it might also be possible to end the curse by breaking the item, but seeing as we only had one we couldn't test that theory out.

I know a lot of you are scared and concerned that you won't figure out how to solve this problem, but you don't have to worry about this being long-term. As far as we can tell there's no reason to believe that this is permanent.

Although the issues of envy that may have instigated this are another matter entirely that you might want to work out with whomever you've switched with. Otherwise you might be stuck with some other problems for years and not to sound like too much of a boy scout or a fatalist but we might be here for a long time and you wouldn't want to be like this forever.

In short, it appears that this happened because some of us bought something from Needful Things and the change isn't permanent. In order to break the curse you need to give the item to the person you switched with or maybe destroy it. That second option is untested though.

So, just in case, don't do that. It's always best to err on the side of caution.

So now that we don't have ghosts sucking our deepest darkest secrets out, let's settle in for a Friday night, pour ourselves a glass of our favorite liquid Lethe and spill some ourselves.

We're still getting to know one another and I was thinking on ice breakers and found a game Never Have I Ever.

Basically, to play, comment something you haven't done, and others playing comment and take a drink if they have.

Maybe it will kick up an idea for something more interesting to do on a Saturday night where we're not being attacked by ghosts.

Oi. I need somebody to run some recon for me.

The butcher, who's a native, is being weird and making getting blood difficult.

That's gonna start to be a real problem if he cuts me off entirely.

So whatever wanker upset him Giles; I'd appreciate you going and taking it back, because if you think you have a vampire problem now wait till I'm starving. That tends to make us act a bit feral.

Wouldn't mind if somebody went in during regular business hours to check things out, either. He's plenty loud about that chip on his shoulder so it wouldn't be as much 'sluething' as being willing to have an ear blistered by a nutter with a grudge. I'll owe you one, though, cash that how you want to.

IC/OOC: Captain Pike's First Get-To-Know-You Dinner

Captain Pike's First Get-To-Know-You Dinner

Maybe you've seen Captain Pike interjecting his optimism on the network here and there. Perhaps you even commented on his introduction post. Or bumped into him in the corridor at Pickman House. Regardless of how you may have met him — or not met him! — Pike has been paying attention to you. (As any good captain would, of course!) It's his prerogative to get to know his crew. And with the Enterprise in another universe, the Dunwich newcomers have become his new crew. As such, he wants to get to know them. Not just because he's looking for the individuals who can be counted on in a crisis, but to really know and understand the people he's stranded with. Which is why he's decided to continue with his longstanding tradition of 'Bridge Crew Dinners'. Granted, there's no bridge here. But Pike has always believed that a good meal and good conversation can lead to good working relationships, and even better friendships. And that's why you've been invited!
You're cordially invited to dinner with the captain! )

I would have made a proper introduction days ago, but like most of you I’ve been trying to settle into this new … habitat. I’m Christopher Pike, Captain of the USS Enterprise. It’s a starship. Pretty fancy. Definitely missing some of her 23rd century luxuries at the moment, but I digress.

I’ve been given the job of town sheriff by the locals. Complete surprise to me, I assure you. But not an unwelcome one. It’s given me the opportunity to do some investigating and as far as I can tell the residents are exactly as they seem—completely unaware of us as strangers. I’m not entirely convinced that this isn’t some kind of advanced holographic program. Regardless, I’m going to continue looking into the town and see if it can help us find out a solution to the Ghost Line. Or, at the very least, point us in the direction of the person or entity who constructed it. In the meantime, I could use some help. Normally I’d reach out to my crew members, but it appears that only one of them arrived here with me and, well, he’s not exactly the man I knew. (No offense, Spock. I’m sure you’re just as logical as the version of you from my universe.) What I’m trying to say is that I have a few extra badges in the office here. If anyone wants to be deputized, let me know.

And for those of you who have found yourself in unexpected careers in Dunwich—maybe we could create a kind of information network with each other. I’ve been subtly questioning the locals here at the station. No one has shared anything too useful yet, but you never know! I’m optimistic. Also if any of you find yourselves in a scrape with local law enforcement, give me a call. I’ll see what I can do.

On a semi-related note, I’m on the hunt for individuals interested in scouting some of the terrain outside of town. If you’re keen, drop your name so I can make a list.

[ooc note: deputy job requires AC career fulfillment]

Take a guess who's the newest reporter at the Dunwich Weekly?

I can't say I expected a full-time job right out the gate, but the one of owners literally ran into me this morning and then offered me a position.

...I know it seems too convenient...but, I think it will give me a to investigate what's going on around here and why this town seems so off.

Guess I'm not the only one mysteriously showing up here. Not much of a comfort, but I guess I'm not alone.

My name is Matt Murdock. I uh... I'm a lawyer.

WELCOME
Your new life starts here.

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.

Nothing that floats.
