Dunwich: A Creepypasta Panfandom Game

I know we've all been wondering big time about what the deal is with this Bad Moon Festival. I wondered so big time that my lovely assistant and I spent the last five days wading our way through the mess that is Dunwich's historical records. We found nothing relevant at the library or Carbunkle House, but you know what they say - you always find what you're looking for in the last place you look. In this case, that place was the Townhall.

We found a book about the festival. While it actually says veeeeeery little about the festival that you don't already know if you listened to the NPR interview with Preacher Buttery Voice, there are slightly more informative notes in the margins. I do mean slightly - they're vague, old, faded, and, in some cases, hardly legible at all. Some have even been completely erased or scribbled out. I barely followed and I think the only reason I did follow is because I wrote them myself. At a guess (and it is just a guess), I must have done it this way because I was worried someone else might understand. I don't know when I might have done it but it does appear to have been a long time ago, a longer time ago, and then maybe a couple other even longer times ago. It's hard to say.

As uncharacteristically vague as I made my instructions, it is my understanding that we (the mistakes) should gather at both the festival and Todash Tavern on the night of the Bad Moon Festival. At the tavern, we're supposed to play Bad Moon Rising by Creedance Clearwater Revival. It's a fun song, I checked it out, but other than the "Bad Moon" part, I have no insight as to why it must be that particular song or even what's supposed to happen after that. I know where we need to go and what we need to do and I ask that you please trust me. I don't remember making these notes but I recognize the way I was dancing around the bush and I know that it's very important we do what's suggested.

EDIT: In addition to this stunningly well-received account of my discovery, I'd like to present a very old picture of Haymitch that we found hanging on the wall of Todash Tavern to further support the idea that maybe we've been here before.

Oh shit. Someone out there trusted me with the concept of responsibility and ownership. Which is like -- hey, are you sure? I had a chia pet once, and it died, man.

Uh. I wasn't given a pet. The owner of Supernova decided he's had it and that I'm more awesome than him and maybe I should like, I dunno, own the place instead and arrange the music how I feel like it then.

It's not my fault New Americana as a genre just feels pretentious, okay?

Anyway. To that metal kid with the hair who failed at computers the other day, or maybe failed and then succeeded... come in and get a job?

We've got the basics covered - clothing, personal necessities, money if anyone is able, food. Anything outside of the typical boxes you can think of? We're also thinking people can donate time and/or skills to help with like maintenance items or whatever.

I know there's a movie theater in town but don't you kind of wish there was like. A lounge or something in Pickman? You think if I think about it hard enough it'll just show up, like with the party room?

Against my better judgement, I'm letting the network know that any offers I made in regards to magic (general or illusion) are rescinded for the time being. I seem to have lost my powers, and there doesn't seem to be any indication of when they might be back or why they left in the first place.

My most recent exciting new experience is that I went invisible on purpose after not even twenty minutes of sitting there and thinking about it. I still have no fucking idea what I'm doing but I think I'm almost doing it right. Came out of it in about a half hour which is a record for me, and I'm pretty sure that I got so, so, so close a few times before I actually got there.

That's where I've been the past couple of hours, I'm on lunch now so I didn't want anyone to worry. This place, it's nothing like the one my parents ran back home. There's candy, I've never even seen before! And ice cream is just...here, readily available for anyone to buy. I even get a discount! The done thing is probably to introduce myself properly, isn't it? I'm Julien Alemarque, Earl of Rivenfell, though the title is something of a historical artifact. I arrived in town a couple of days ago and I've been reading what I can about the situation here. I'm afraid I don't have the necessary context for all of the information, but I'll be sure to try to catch up as I can.

My trade is as a jeweler and metalsmith but I'm also well-trained in combat and healing magic, though I'm not sure whether the most heavy-duty spells will be as effective in a world that doesn't seem to have the same gods as that's where I draw power from. I don't imagine horse-riding is terribly useful around here though and it seems everyone is competently literate.

I would be interested in wine recommendations if anyone has them, preferably light-bodied white wines, but reds have their place as well.

I missed the first party and I don't feel like I should miss another if I want to get to know more of you than I already do, so... as kind as Margo has been to offer me a few things to wear to this disco party of hers, does anyone have any ideas so the whole burden of how I dress isn't on her? Great, new addition in town. Looks like a really huge hedge mage. I'd like to take a group and check it out. None of the local seem to notice this newfangled maze, and that concerns me. And it should concern me, considering it showed up right after another heavy fog.

I'll take about a dozen people and we'll team up with a partner at various points at the park.

Okay so this is cute and all but I'm gonna need someone to point me in the direction of the bus station. I gotta get back to Gotham.

Right. Since there's no sign that people are going to stop showing up here anytime soon, and since we're in various states of acceptance of that fact, it might not be a bad idea if we had some place to talk about it.

Like a support group. So if anyone knows of a place we could meet up, talk, have snacks and coffee or whatever you have at these things, let me know? Preferably not a bar.

And let me know if you think you might make use of it, either as someone who could use the group or someone who's willing to show up so no one has to feel awkward about going. You don't have to specify which group you fall into and you can filter it if you want.

I've been in Dunwich for a bit and I've talked with some of you, but it occurred to me that I should maybe introduce myself, officially.

I'm Mara Jade and I came here from Coruscant, which is probably not a name any of you recognize. From what I have learned about this world so far, it seems we are far away from my home, possibly even in a different galaxy.

It feels strange to spend so much time in one place, but I think I let myself be deputized, so if you run into trouble anywhere, you can reach out to me and I can probably get you out of it.

I'm writing a summary of our knowledge and resources to put on an information board in the Pickman House lobby. I have points about phone use, money and jobs, clothing, the garden, the dangers we've found (the lobsters and vampires), medical personnel, the ghost line, and the prospect of getting home.

Firstly I'd like to include points of contact for some of these things. For help with clothing I thought to put the two who've gotten jobs at Time and Again. Please let me know whether you'd be alright with this, or if anybody else would like to volunteer to give arrivals advice. For the vampires I've put Rose and Faith as they were speaking about training people and running patrols. For the lobsters there seem to be several people investigating, whether that's to learn more or for eating purposes. Spock would be an obvious choice, but who would like to be points of contact on this?

For the last three I've so far left them blank. Is there anyone who'd like to head investigations into the ghost line and attempts to leave? I know we haven't gotten very far in that last one and don't have much to go on so far, but I'm thinking ahead. I know we have at least three people with medical training but being on call is a big enough ask that I'd like explicit confirmation.

I'll continue thinking about what else to include, but let me know if there's something I've missed that's likely to be a common concern.

One minute I was in my car, singing along to the static on the radio, about to pull in to the Arby's for a post-show snack and perhaps a sight of Carlos the scientist and his perfect hair before I returned home. Anyone else having absolutely no trouble with identification? I just got a job in the Town hall in their license and permits department. Without any sort of identification. They just took me at face value and hired me.

The good news is that I'll have access to whatever licenses and permits we might need.
