A reunion at last-Howard has just had a date with a Peggy from another world, but now his true companion has come and Dunwich might never be the same. Or just, Howard missed his butler. WARNINGS TBD, none to start

Sure, he was able to get by on his own, but that didn't mean he didn't want Jarvis there.

This had certainly been an evening of surprises. Howard was having an excellent date with Peggy, he was feeling more connected to Dunwich now that he had a job and a great space to work on his experiments with Tandy. He missed his yacht, his mansion, his well established laboratories, his company...and most of all Jarvis. But he was proving that he was resourceful even without his money. Was a skill that he thought he had lost for a bit, but when life gave you lemons you made acerbic acid. Or however that saying went. There were a lot he wanted to process and think about with regards to the whole Peggy date, but that certainly was for another time especially given the message he received.
Jarvis?? Here?? Howard practically skipped when he saw the message, and he ran toward the direction Tobias had indicated his man servant could be found. Sure, he was able to get by on his own, but that didn't mean he didn't want Jarvis there. So after saying goodbye to Pegs, he made his way quickly to the Todash, and a brilliantly familiar sight. His butler looked mussed but was almost exactly how he left him weeks ago. How extraordinary! He picked up his pace and stretched out his arms seeing his friend. "Jarvis! There you are! Did ya miss me?"

After his unsuccessful hunt for Bernard, he'd returned to the tavern, exhausted. At a loss for where to go or what to do next, he sat at a table in the far corner of the room to sulk and imagine what he'd be doing right now if he were still at home. Surely Ana would be wondering where he'd gone to and would worry something terribly, which only worsened his mood.

The bartender came up and said, "Looks like you need this," and left with a glass of whiskey... and one of those so-called phones that Tobias had. Edwin was too despondent to argue about the 'phone' or to even say thank you, he just picked up the glass and starting drinking. And each time he drained his glass, another was brought. He didn't have his billfold with him, he couldn't pay, but he kept drinking and looking around hopelessly.

What would Peggy Carter do? he asked himself, then doubted she would ever find herself suddenly transported to someplace where everything was so confusing.

Lost in his thoughts, he hadn't noticed Mr Stark until he heard his voice call his name. Looking up and seeing him, he quickly rose to his feet, scraping the floor with the legs of his chair as he did. "Mr Stark?" Edwin couldn't believe his eyes. "Is that really you?"

"Jarvis!" Howard cried in earnest, wrapping up the Englishman in a large bear hug he didn't think Jarvis would approve of, but they were under extraordinary circumstances and he thought it just the time for one. He pulled back, putting his hands on his butler's shoulders and searched his face. "Wait...let me make sure you're MY Jarvis. Found out the weird way there are multiple universes here. What shape do I like my sandwiches cut in?" he asked, giving the other man a slightly suspicious eye. "When I first got here the first person I saw was Peggy Carter but she wasn't exactly the same as the one you and I know."

Howard looked around them, searching for the other companion that he was told had shown up. "Hang on, where's Bernard? I got a message you were both here, been looking forward to seeing the big fella," he said a wry smile on his face.

It wasn't that Edwin disapproved, per se... it was just awkward to be hugged in such a way by one's employer. However, as strange as it was, Edwin felt relief in seeing a familiar face, hearing a familiar voice.

Or was it familiar?

Multiple universes? Edwin had never heard of such a thing, and looked at Mr Stark like he'd grown a second head. But he answered the question, "That depends on what sort of sandwich it is. Usually you prefer it cut on a diagonal, but when it's one of your favorite grilled Velveeta sandwiches, you like them cut on the diagonal across both ways so you can dip the little triangles into your tomato rice soup."

After a pause. "Miss Carter is here, too? What do you mean, she isn't exactly the same?" The thought of her being different made him nervous.

'Uhhhh..." Edwin looked guilty. "I'm afraid Bernard escaped. The lad, Tobias... he said he knew you? He tried to help me catch him, but we've been unsuccessful, so far. As it was getting dark, we resolved to continue our pursuit in the morning."

Howard let out a relieved sigh. "Oh thanks Christ, I did NOT want to train a butler on how to do it right. Miss the Velveeta..." he said, his mind momentarily wandering, even though he'd just had burgers with Peggy. He shook his head to bring him back into focus. "Well, just to be sure you're the right Jarvis, is Steve Rogers Captain America, last you checked?" He paused. "Because the Peggy that's here? She's Captain Am-Carter. She took the serum instead of Steve. So she's...the super soldier." He wasn't sure how else to describe her because at first glance you don't notice until you do. That she is stronger and more capable than the Peggy he knew, in a good way. And that she agreed to a date with him. He was sure Jarvis would find out sooner rather than later anyway.

Howard laughed and shook his head. "We've had some conversations, yes. An interesting lad to say the least. Are you sure? Maybe if I called for him he might listen. He just misses Daddy," Howard said, looking around for something that might attract a flamingo. "Anyone have any krill handy?"

"Train a butler?" Edwin gave Howard a curious look. "How long have you been here? His mind was just being introduced to the concept of coming from other universes, but the idea of other points of time was an aspect he didn't consider. After a moment's thought, he nodded and said, "If there is anybody else besides Captain Rogers qualified to take the super soldier serum, it's Miss Carter."

Mr Stark's utter fascination with Bernard was baffling. As far Edwin was concerned, if the damned bird simply flew away, never to be seen again, he wouldn't care in the slightest. However, Mr Stark loved him, and so Edwin had to care. Grimacing a bit, he leaned over and muttered, "I doubt a pub like this would have krill in stock. Perhaps we ought to start searching for him in earnest tomorrow morning?"

"Well, I won't have to now!" Howard returned jovially. Not that he had the funds for a butler now...but that was a problem for future Howard. Right now he had to catch Jarvis up so that he wasn't too lost and also find Bernard. Just the very thought of the dorky bird and it's spindly legs brought a smile to his face, so he thought it important he was rounded up before he ended up in some local yokel's stew pot. But he recognized the question from Jarvis and shrugged his shoulders smoothly. "Nearly a month, if you can believe that. Seems like yesterday I was on my yacht and walked into this town. Now here you are too! Funny how life works," he said, rubbing his hands together. And he gave Jarvis an approving nod. "You got that right. No one I'd trust more than her with it, if it weren't Steve. So...some people are like how we remember and some are very different." He paused, deciding to just rip the plaster off with regard to Tony. "People come from different times as well. I uh...I have a son here. Tony," he said, studying Jarvis' face for a reaction to that particular news.

At Jarvis' reasonable compromise, Howard let out a sigh again. "I hate that you're right. Just worry about the little fella out here all alone and scared. Probably should build a little enclosure for him at Pickman. But!" he said, clapping Edwin on the back. "On that note then, shall we head out then? Everyone gets a spot at Pickman until they can get something better. Not bad all things considered, but it's no mansion. I mean, maybe it was once but...well, we all learn to adapt." He noticed Edwin looking a bit piqued and had to smile. "Boy it sure is good to see you."

Edwin couldn't even imagine Mr Stark employing anybody else as his butler besides him, and on an unconscious level he felt offended that he might. It manifested in Edwin feeling irrationally irritated.

"A month?" Edwin exclaimed. "Why I just spoke to you this morning over lunch. You were nowhere near your yacht."

But it was the revelation that he had a son that surprised him the most. After a long pause he said, "You've only been here one month, you certainly didn't waste any time..." A bit of a tongue-in-cheek comment on Howard's dalliances, but nothing Howard wouldn't be used to. "You've already named him? How do you know he's a boy?"

For as disoriented Edwin was, seeing Howard was a relief. "The feeling is mutual, Mr Stark," he said, letting sentimentality creep into his voice. "

"Yeah, that's how it works here. I had been on my yacht one second and then here the next. I'd just finished wrapping up filming Kid Colt and we'd...well, solved some issues with alien matter." He patted Jarvis' shoulder, knowing this would take him a bit to adjust to.

"Well, don't get too ahead of yourself. I didn't MAKE him here, he arrived the same as you. He's just from a time in the future. Come to think of it, he might be older than I am. Didn't seem polite to ask, you know, since I didn't know he existed as of a month ago. There's...well, a lot that happens it seems between now and when he came to be. Apparently I got married!" He said, and didn't even bother to look at Jarvis' face to know how he likely felt. "Trust me, I was as surprised by this news as you are. And for your information, haven't needed a single piece of Cartier while here," he added, letting out a little chuckle as he did. He'd explain about dating Peggy, in due time. It seemed there was a lot they needed to figure out first.

Howard was more pleased that evening than he'd thought possible. He wasn't sure which was better, having his friend and confidant arrive or finding that he could have a date with Peggy Carter. Though he was now still a bit worried about Bernard.
