After the other day, I kind of realized we might need to up our game on preparing people for this. I know a few of us are storing away a stockpile here or there. Maybe it's time we pool our resources and start teaching people how to fight back.

So I left the house this morning with the goal of trying to track down any possible leads into the whereabouts of my missing sister, and somehow ended up becoming the owner of a detective agency.

This town really is strange. Still if anyone is looking for a job; and has experience with investigation work, forensics, or served with law enforcement/military, feel free to swing by or drop me a line. Tracked N' Solved Detective Agency isn't very large, but there's enough room and desks for a few folks to claim.

Not sure whose things were in the washer on our floor, but that coin operated washer and dryer in the basement was pretty handy. Why didn't anyone mention this before? Saved me one hell of a trip into town.

So, when is my next training session?

Guess it's my turn to do the introductions. Hey. Buffy Summers. From California and a few years ago. Apparently, you guys already know Giles, Spike, and Faith. We're from the same universe, but oddly not the same time period. I like long walks at midnight, slaying demons, and shopping till I drop. This is not my first kidnapping — interdimensional or otherwise — and I was kind of in the middle of protecting something kinda sorta really big time important so if we could figure out a way home, that'd be great.

I have just one question though: just how many different Starbucks Frappuccinos did I miss from 2015 until 2023?

Today is a day of weird.

First I was out near that shop, Needful Things. Looks like a cool place, but it's boarded up. Apparently the owner is on vacation or something? But that's not what's weird. I swear there was someone hanging out there, watching me, and it could have been my twin. I tried to talk to him but he disappeared and no one I asked about it even saw him. Feels like I'm losing my mind. Again.

Oh, and I got a job. I went to the Sixth Street Cafe for a coffee after that, and they told me I was late for my shift. Like what? My name's on the schedule and everything.

Great, new addition in town. Looks like a really huge hedge mage. I'd like to take a group and check it out. None of the local seem to notice this newfangled maze, and that concerns me. And it should concern me, considering it showed up right after another heavy fog.

I'll take about a dozen people and we'll team up with a partner at various points at the park.

I'm writing a summary of our knowledge and resources to put on an information board in the Pickman House lobby. I have points about phone use, money and jobs, clothing, the garden, the dangers we've found (the lobsters and vampires), medical personnel, the ghost line, and the prospect of getting home.

Firstly I'd like to include points of contact for some of these things. For help with clothing I thought to put the two who've gotten jobs at Time and Again. Please let me know whether you'd be alright with this, or if anybody else would like to volunteer to give arrivals advice. For the vampires I've put Rose and Faith as they were speaking about training people and running patrols. For the lobsters there seem to be several people investigating, whether that's to learn more or for eating purposes. Spock would be an obvious choice, but who would like to be points of contact on this?

For the last three I've so far left them blank. Is there anyone who'd like to head investigations into the ghost line and attempts to leave? I know we haven't gotten very far in that last one and don't have much to go on so far, but I'm thinking ahead. I know we have at least three people with medical training but being on call is a big enough ask that I'd like explicit confirmation.

I'll continue thinking about what else to include, but let me know if there's something I've missed that's likely to be a common concern.

I can begin. I enjoy coffee, that I've found very much. As for what's different, I could say everything. I'd be remiss to not mention the lack of oversized enemies lurking around every corner here. That's still a bit strange.

As for my own goals or plans, mostly surviving as of the immediate future, but I'd like to do something more while here.

I guess I'm the new town vet.

Do we talk about how creepy it is that the old vet just conveniently left town right as I got here?

Hey, I know there's a lot of chatter happening on the network right now. Natasha is gathering up a group of people to try and organize things. Let her know if you find anyone injured or have any medical expertise.

In the meantime, I think I've got a line on a place we can stay. Apparently there's an old boarding house that's just been remodeled into a studio apartment complex, completely vacant. The owners think I'm the new manager. I say we pull a fast one, I fill out paperwork for everyone and we worry about how we're going to balance the books at a later date. Just to get everyone off the street.

Seems a lot of people have found this network. That's good. We can communicate from across the town. Thanks to Carol for that. Firstly, I'm not the Natasha from the Infinite Agency, but I'm probably a lot like her. I'm sorry to those of you who knew me there.

There's a lot of us around here, so I'm thinking we should create a command post where everyone can converge and we can figure out what to do from there. There's something weird about this town, outside of our unexplained arrival, and I don't want anyone getting stuck across the town line as a ghost. The ghost line?

I'm also hearing something about some kind of sickness going around. So-n-so's little cousin's best friend's got "angel fever." Whatever that means. None of us will have been exposed if this is a whole new dimension than the other we came from. Probably best to keep it that way.

I'm in the park across from town hall. Center of town. Look for the red head in a black stealth suit. Hair in braids. Let's try and help one another reunite and figure out what to do next.

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.
