I'm about to test my phasing to see if that has a difference when I go through. See if phasing out of space will get me through the line undetected. Works on a lot of things, so I guess I'll find out.

But I thought everyone should know, the locals can leave the town. I've watched a bunch of people coming and going. People on foot, people in vehicles, people on bikes. I think it might just be us stuck here.

As excruciating as crossing the ghost line is, I don't recommend it. I was enjoy the feeling of walking through jello when a creature that looked like some sort of insect came out of my form. It was not behind me or in front of me when it came out. It was as if it used me as a conduit. It's out there somewhere.

I will attempt to draw it, but for now, it was the size of a pigeon and had three faces. It didn't speak with its mouths, but telepathically. Normally, I don't mind unpleasant conversations, but the sounds they made were excruciatingly painful to my ears, and I enjoy fingers on a chalkboard.

I was not able to figure out where it went as it took me a while to return to the ghost line and my body.

Hey, I know there's a lot of chatter happening on the network right now. Natasha is gathering up a group of people to try and organize things. Let her know if you find anyone injured or have any medical expertise.

In the meantime, I think I've got a line on a place we can stay. Apparently there's an old boarding house that's just been remodeled into a studio apartment complex, completely vacant. The owners think I'm the new manager. I say we pull a fast one, I fill out paperwork for everyone and we worry about how we're going to balance the books at a later date. Just to get everyone off the street.

The Pickman House is at [address].

If you find anyone without a phone or communication device, or someone who doesn't know how to use one, you can send them my way. We'll figure something out. Better we all stay in contact.

My name is Mobius, a few of you may know me from other timelines. In any case, nice to meet you.

There might be a place in town that'll allow you to sell gold for cash.

If there isn't, my offer isn't much good, but I'm a fucking leprechaun and I have a hoard, so if you need money, talk to me.

CHAOS, FOG and a PARADE
A STARTING IC/OOC EVENT
ARRIVAL OF THE NEW PEOPLE / THE PARADE The fog has cleared and you find yourself standing in the downtown streets of an unfamiliar town. And you’re not alone. There are dozens of people lining the sidewalks on either side of Main Street, cheering. At first you think they’re excited that the fog has finally lifted, but then you realize that a parade is heading towards you.

But it’s not just any normal parade. This is an all out affair that appears to involve most of the town and its residents. If you’re familiar with Earth history there might even be a kind of nostalgic vibe to the event. The closer you look at the parade, however, the more peculiar it appears. The marching band majorettes, for example, are waving flags with an image of a mutated lobster on it. And the drum corp is dressed like lobsters, banging away at the snare with hands sticking out of their large claws.

There’s a float that rolls by afterwards featuring a teenage girl in a bright pink dress sitting atop a decorative throne. She waves to everyone on the side of the street. “Wow! The pig farm sure crowned a beauty for the pageant this year!” one of the locals says. Sure enough, around the throne are four large swine, devouring slop at the girl’s feet.

A bright blue Cadillac slowly drives after the float. The logo for Dolan’s Auto Shop is written on the side and a man with a wide smile honks toots on the horn which lets out an eerie jingle. After that a group of mimes dance around the crowd. One in front holds up a sign for The Tommyknocker Theatre Troupe.

And so on.

Everyone you try to talk to is friendly. The street vendors offer you free hotdogs and ice cream.

All of it is completely normal.

But then why does it make you feel so uneasy?

NOTES You know the drill! Get in the comments! (Insert Brennan Lee Mulligan gif here.)

If you don't know the drill, that's okay! IC/OOC events can be a little overwhelming when just starting out. I wrote an essay about it here if you want to know what's up.

SPECIAL THANKS Round of applause to our very own Marty McChaa for writing up this lovely event for us and finding the images.

The coding can be found at Tess's patreon if you want to have it on hand for your very own. ♥ We're Tess stans here.

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.

Nothing that floats.
