I don't really wear dresses, and I haven't done in a long time. Can Does anyone feel up to helping me find something for the prom? I'll find a way to repay you, I swear.!

Um, hi. This is a little bit awkward, but [...] I found something in the library yesterday. I didn't know it had anything to do with you until after I'd started looking at it but now I'm c I wanted to as [...] I stopped once I realised, because it felt like something that should have been private.

I took it out of the library so no one else would find it and look at it. I can bring it to you, if you want?

So I found this little VHS tape that I thought was something else and since there seem to be like a lot of old school things here I got the VHS player which is like so retro very cute love that but um it was NOT what I thought it was and like

I get that there's a lot going on here and totally respect that but how do you make sure we're like safe from each other?

Because people here are sometimes like super dangerous creatures or can mind control people and some of those people are like, teenagers without cute fully formed little brains and I'm like SO not being judgy or anything!

Just want to you know, not be mind controlled again or get eaten or something or tortured?

Sooooo if I'm believing this whole like body/"power" swap thing really happened, you swapped with Bianca, didn't you?

Okay, people having tried on foot, in vehicles, phasing, probably flying IDK, so I decided I'd try teleporting out of this damn town, and what I learned was DO NOT. That is not supposed to happen and once I was wherever the fuck that was, I couldn't just teleport back out.

Not totally sure which thing I tried to get me out was actually the thing that worked, TBH.

Soooo, um. If you happen to see a firedrake on the loose in Pickman house (or even out in town? Goddess, please don't let her have made it outside), please don't panic. Her name is Corra and she shouldn't harm you. She slipped out this morning and I haven't been able to corral her back yet. She might huff some smoke your direction, but she's all show unless you try to harm her. I've been chasing after her, but she refuses to return and at this point it's probably better for all of us to just let her get some of her energy out.

Yeah, so phasing through the ghost line is actually worse than turning into a ghost. If I wasn't phased, body dropped, ghost time. When I tried it phasing, I ended up in a completely dark place. Pretty sure there were some monsters there, but since I was phased, nothing was touching me and I wasn't about to unphase. Once I crossed the line, I was back in Dunwich.

I don't know what this Ghost Line is, but it's not a place you wanna go.

I'm about to test my phasing to see if that has a difference when I go through. See if phasing out of space will get me through the line undetected. Works on a lot of things, so I guess I'll find out.

But I thought everyone should know, the locals can leave the town. I've watched a bunch of people coming and going. People on foot, people in vehicles, people on bikes. I think it might just be us stuck here.

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.

Nothing that floats.
