I rolled out of bed this morning looking like this.

I'm struggling to stay at a blissful level of drunk. I'm also realizing the implications of -

friendship. It's fun to pretend, but really caring is exhausting.

Delores has moved out. And I can hear everyone think 'ooh the mannequin has grown legs and walked out of Pickman's, has she'? NO OF COURSE NOT, I teleported her to a store where she's now a model and they even had an extra arm

This is stupid. We've broken up before. So why does it feel like my heart is drowning on dry land?

How is everyone feeling? Does anyone need anything? Perhaps we can use this to communicate with each other and share what we can for now. Just my friendly suggestion.

That being said, for those who are interested, I can teach basic survival skills and self defense. Do you want to know how to start a fire? How to hunt? How to grow food or find water? I can offer these things, at least.

Toomey, the bank manager, is a real asshole. I got lost on my way to the bank today and I never get fucking lost.  I ended up being 5 minutes late for work. Not even five. 4 minutes and 53 seconds late.   I know because Toomey made a point of telling me and made me stay an extra 4 minutes and 53 seconds after work.  He actually stood in the doorway of my office like my to make sure I stayed.   I don't like people being late either, but that was a total dick move, right?

Just in case anyone ever needed to find Dunwich Middle School, it's actually housed within the elementary school. Soooo glad I sorted that out today, I would have been very confused tomorrow morning trying to get to work because I'm a middle school guidance counselor now. I'm so excited! It was absolutely the weirdest thing, okay? I was waiting for my doctor's appointment when, suddenly, a guy gave me a lanyard that he said he saw me drop. I said, "Not mine, sorry!" and he said, "Isn't this you?" and so I looked and on the lanyard was an actual ID with my face and my name and everything. I will, of course, do my absolute best by Dunwich's kids. Here's hoping they make a little more sense than their parents do.

Would anyone be furious if I dipped into the money jar to buy makeup? I would pay it back and then some as soon as I got my first paycheck. You only get one chance to make a first impression and I'd like mine to be as close to my best as I can get with the most acceptable of all the cheap, awful drugstore makeup Dunwich has to offer. If it's a problem, I totally understand. I'm asking because I get that it's dumb and frivolous, it would just make me feel better on my first day at work. If it's a problem, I will find another way. Thank you!

FILTER: HAYMITCH I met a very scary woman today. Her eyes are the exact color of baby shit and I think she.

FILTER: RICHIE I know we said hall party but I just do not know how to half ass a single damn thing so I really wanted to wait until I had some resources to pull from but time is a luxury we just don't have, Richie. We need to strike while the iron is hot. The iron = HUGE and (probably) DELICIOUS lobsters. We'll barely even have to worry about food if we can score even just one of those. Nobody is going to turn up their nose at lobster. [....] Well, the fact that it's a mutant lobster might make it a little less appetizing to some but once we know it's okay, most people probably won't care. And if they do, they can have pizza. Whatever, they can even eat their own hats and cats for all I care, I want to eat a huge lobster. Do you?

If you've never seen a grown man sob and cry, to the point that he had a legit runny nose, well you are missing out.

Half expected the guy to just storm out after three hours of waiting around. But he finally broke after getting to the counter, only to be sent back to fill out the 5805-A form in triplicate, and to wait in line all over again.

Damn, I love this job.

This is like Dallas all over again.

ARRIVAL

The thick, ghastly haze of the mist, once practically opaque to the naked eye, fades and opens up to a nostalgic homegrown New England town. A friendly gazebo, freshly painted white sits on a neatly mown lawn at the center of the town square. Vehicles stop at the redlight while locals cross the street, birds chirp in the trees, and a school bus stops to pick up a few children in oversized backpacks. Pedestrians walk by you without a second glance. Did they not see you suddenly appearing out of nowhere? How could they not have noticed that all encompassing fog? And why doesn’t your obviously otherworldly attire catch their attention? This appears to be a small, close knit community. And it’s clear you’re not from around these parts.

But these are simply the first of many mysteries you’re about to discover.

The further you investigate your new surroundings, the more ominous this seemingly quaint and colloquial town becomes. There’s something dark beneath its pleasant guise. You can’t shake the chill at the back of your neck and the sense that someone—or something—is watching you. Then there’s the odd graffiti on the alleyway walls and the way the locals talk about certain locations. And while the mist is gone, there are places in town that make you reminisce about the mist. Places that feel supernaturally thin. Thin enough to let in whispers from the other side. Or maybe even screams.

And don’t worry if you hear laughter or the jingling chimes of carnival coming from the rain gutters in the street. That’s just your imagination. There’s nothing down there.

Nothing that floats.
