Seeing as we have a freebie tonight, I did a little research and there's a couple of fun events on going on tonight that are up my street so if anyone wants to tag along to any of them, let me know. There's chasing the green fairy which is an hour looking at uses and variations of absinthe, the hot toddies which is a retro-themed burlesque show and I'm stopping at the dandelion chocolate factory first, because I'll skinned alive if I come to San Francisco and don't bring back a gift.

I know a lot of people here have different ways of channeling/doing/activating/whatever their power, but quick question for people who don't require contact to do it: Did you need to have contact in the beginning or was it always remotely activated? If so, do you know what changed?

For people who do still require physical contact to do it, do you think you'll ever not need to? Is it something you think makes difference in how you use it?

I'm just trying to figure out the best way of doing things and what to aim for. I have an instinct go big or go, well, not home, but you know, but while I'm all for pushing limits and right now, I need some kind of contact to do it even if it's just Fonz style and for bigger things, that's going to start getting seriously hard. I mean, I get things drop in my head all the time to try and some look kinda big like power generators but given that things occasionally explode if I overload myself and I don't want to do that, advice would be appreciated.

It just doesn't feel like it's been 5 years since Seattle. It's not something I think about a lot and I know some people knew from the first instance that they were vols or that they were something out of the ordinary, but it kind of took me personally a while to figure it out and I think Seattle was the first time I really considered that I didn't just have some weird natural talent that only applied to domestic machines or cars or something. It was the first time it felt real.

I think being here, it's not that I forget that we're all different special little snowflakes and all, but I think it's easy to forget that for at least 14 years, we had other lives and other plans. It felt almost weirdly intrusive to read a glimpse into people you see every day. Even so, it was sort of nice to be reminded of those other plans and other life. It makes you take stock of how much you change. But that's what's been occurring to me lately - I love being a vol but I've always felt so adamant that my plans were not going to change because of it and I wasn't going to get defined by it. The reality is I've barely written anything I'm happy with in months and all my focus is on pushing my power to the limit in case I could los. Just reading about the fact that people do still think about what could have been and what's on hold, as well as re-evaluating their lives and what they're going to do with them really helps deal with that.

They were great reading and I really hope they gave some people out there pause for thought too.

I know you're probably not in the mood with all the crap going on right now, if/when you're good, I'm having an argument with one of my creations and could really use your insight.

Decided on chick cookies and am going to decorate them. I kind of miss doing it at Nothing makes you home sick like realising you can't really do the same traditions. I know, whine more. Right, less depressing note. Does anyone know what IVI considers weaponry? I know there's a guideline around here somewhere.

I went backwards and forwards on whether or not to just ask people or post this, but here it goes. If you have no interest in clothes or playing with gadgets, this is not going to be an interesting post for you. I'm kind of costume mad, but I've been making my own since I was eighteen and I like to think I've gotten pretty good at it. I finally made the first machine from scratch in October and as of today (fingers crossed), I think I'm managing to keep them working for a while. These things are kind of my passions, so having thought about it (and debated it on a powers defining you level), I've decided I want to see if I can actually carve out a niche label for myself. If you don't try, you don't get, right?

So what the hell does that have to do with you, right? Mostly, if I'm going to try and do this business wise, I need to showcase what I can do. This means photographs of some of what I have as well as making some new things to personal measurements. Which means I actually need people to base it on and as often pointed out, we have some insanely pretty people here . I realise what I do isn't everyone's idea of pretty, but the new ones I want to do will be theme based. At the moment, I'm thinking Moulin Rouge burlesque, Titanic, Alice in Wonderland (there's a reason it's so commonly used) as well as royalty, fairytale, victoriana (obviously) and warrior but they're just concepts at the minute and subject to change. I'll be doing shoes, hair pieces, dresses, skirts, corsets and the occasional top hat. Here* are a few of the different things I've already got to give you an idea. If it's something you might find fun or wouldn't mind giving a try (I'm more than happy to bribe if need be), then leave a comment or there's a sign up sheet on mine and Mette's door. This pictures will go public, but unless you're happy to show your face, I won't include that for privacy's sake. Let me know if you have any questions! OH and if someone would help me with make-up, you'll get my everlasting adoration.

I don't want to talk abou I'm as psyched as anyone about International Women's Day, but vag cupcakes is where I draw the line. I would say I didn't see them coming, but that's too much of a terrible pun even for me. I do miss the cupcakes from home, though.

Apparently women have a half day in China with it. Dude, that would rock.

So, after several months of working on new projects, I have a few things I need to product test. For anyone who knows anything about my power, I have trouble creating new things (as opposed to screwing with something pre-created) so this has been kind of daunting. I mean, it's one thing having fun with vending machines or getting revenge on the claw machines, but creating something out of nothing is really tiring but awesome. I'm not quite at jetpack level, but I'm getting there but to do that, I have to make sure what I create actually works for more than the couple of hours I can get Bug to work for before he goes insane and busts up.

Okay, tl;dr, I need some people who have an hour or two free this week/end to help me test some.

One is automata, the other is security based and I'd drop it off with you, and retrieve it at the end of the week or when it unceremoniously breaks. I just need a fresh pair of eyes on them or several. I'm more than happy to bribe with sweet things or w/e, but either way, would totally help me out.

I've brought Moa up to the room for hot cocoa, just to let you know. The medium girl, while possibly attempting to be sensitive (though calling her a crybaby and saying life is hard re: christmas was probably not the way to do it) , not only upset her but she's managed to make me incredibly and vaguely irrationally angry at her for it because I'm mamabearing, so chocolate = calming.

Dress is almost done. Fuck people who think gingers can't pull off red because I love this thing already. Put on some straps this morning before classes, so less worried about it now.

Speaking of love, I don't really do the whole Valentines but let's face it, it's just an excuse to drink, dance and dress up. Yeah, I know, me loving to dress up, what a shocker!

I realise not all of us are going, BUT FOR THOSE WHO ARE.

I don't know what we're doing about pre-dance fun, but do you guys want to get together to sort out hair and maybe do some quick scrubs and cleansers etc as there'll be pics? Definitely going to make more of the lemon cleansing scrub from Christmas, so would happily bring some. I've pulled up some pics of my less niche hair things if people want inspiration or borrowing or w/e so if we want to do our own or help each other, I think it'd be awesome.

As long as we're conforming to stereotypes about men and Americans Okay, people with a good eye for clothes/fashion sense. This is my latest strip of what's going to be a corset top that means I might possibly survive the insane temperatures and not have spend my life in jeans and tee's. I don't know how you regulars stand it.

So here's my question: what neckline is the way to go here? I originally thought sweetheart, but might be a bit cutesy with it. I might add some patterning with it, but I'm just completely conflicted on this one.

I woke up this morning with Matthew 5:4 repeating itself in my brain and a need for comfort food. So I either made super thin chocolate cookies or found out what happens when I screw up the flour measurements in my cookie dough balls.

This is such fucking bullshit. We can't let them do this. I know talking about it openly is dangerous and I don't want anyone in further danger -- but there has to be something we can do. I mean, we could follow it up with statements but by then, a fuckload of damage will be done already. I just...don't want people to even think about trying justify what they've done because of fucking videos.
