Well, consider this my official resignation from Vol Squad.

Fuck the IVF

I know other people have asked already, but I'm going to volunteer, too. I've packed light, so if anyone wants anything brought back, I'll try and grab it if they give us free time after the relief work. Priority goes to people who want something from friends and family in the city.

As worrying as massive fires are, it feels kind of good to be faced with a chance to do something with my powers that doesn't revolve around smashing or beating someone up.

So I got a package through processing this morning and was kind of mystified by that, until I opened it and found a pair of these inside and a note from my old social worker. I completely forgot that it's Bondudagur today, back in Iceland.
Translated, I guess it means 'Man Day'. Or 'Husband Day'. But it's basically just a day where most women do something or get something for the man in their life, father, brother, boyfriend, etc.
My Dad
My Dad always used to say that it was a well-planned system, because 'Man Day' happens exactly a month before Konnudagur or 'Women's day' which is the same thing but for the women in your life. He figured that Bondudagur was just a subtle reminder that you had a month's warning to plan something amazing.
And I guess now I have a month's warning to get something nice for my social worker.

I usually try not to dwell on the idea of 'back home' too much, because it seems kind of counter-productive.

But I am seriously craving late night junk food right now. The greasy, disgusting kind of stuff you only get at four in the morning and usually wind up regretting.

I feel like it'll probably be the first thing I'll do when we touch down back in Iceland come December.

Need your help with something.

So, I've seen a lot of other people post about why they're running for student council, so I may as well put my reasons out there.

I'm not going to promise anything like 'more parties' or 'chocolate fountains in every dorm' or even that I'm going to make IVI magical and awesome.
Because it sucks here. There are benefits, of course, but I'm pretty sure each and every one of us can think of at least one reason why being here sucks. But we're here, some of us have to be here even if we had the choice, and that's the situation we have to deal with.
So if I wind up being elected as Student Body President, I want to make the situation as tolerable as possible; to try and cut down on the dramatics and make things run as smooth as they can around here, maybe setting in place a student-run system that would help pacify situations before people get sent to solitary, etc.

So. It's not an amazing platform, I know. But I don't really want to do anything 'amazing', I just want to make however long we have to spend here pass as easily as it can.

So, following on from the post a while ago about a student council, the staff has approved us establishing one.

So let's use this post to establish nominations.
We're going to go with the following positions;
President.
Vice-President.
Secretary.
Treasurer.
And then Representatives for each year, who will work to coordinate things and help bring up any issues someone in their year might have.

Nominate anyone you want for each position (even yourself), and if two people second it, then they'll be in the running for the position and we can move on to campaigning.

Let's try out best to keep it serious, yeah?

I feel stupid for having done it, but I ordered one of these. The heat is still unbearable, so I'm hoping having something to sit around and dip my legs in will help. Please tell me people have ordered stupider.

At my old school before I joined Iceland's Vol system, we had a Student Council.
It was a group of students chosen by the rest of us to communicate with the teachers on a regular basis and tried to represent our best interests.

That's something we could look into establishing here; asking the staff if we can chose a couple of people to represent us, so we have someone who can directly voice our concerns when we have them. And maybe they could even be involved in the conversation when it comes to doling out punishment, so that what happened to Hunter doesn't happen again.

It might be a stupid idea and they might say no, but it's at least something constructive to contribute. And it beats just posting about the worst things that could happen to us.

Because if all you're doing is posting endlessly about how we're all doomed and we're going to die, running the risk of frightening and stressing out people who already find themselves far from home and a little vulnerable? Well, then you're just an asshole.

So, the 'Vol Bieber' is definitely Icelandic. I talked to my old social worker about it and she said they've managed to track the girl down and have gotten her to register. So, sorry about that on behalf of Iceland? I bet she's from MH

In happier news, we might actually stand a chance of making Gold this year after beating Sweden the other day, we'd just need to beat France tomorrow. It's almost exciting enough to make me want to figure out the timezones and take over one of the TVs to watch the match.
