Should anyone want, I have some newspapers that Ansel were given to me. A few days out of date, but still a welcome sight. A couple of different languages, too. Please let me know if you're interested in reading any of them.

[FILTER: NAWAL]
I managed to gain a bit more of an in-depth description of the censored Time magazine article. In case anyone hasn't heard, the most notable part that I heard of were the questions on Vols being regulated by a non-transparent organisation. And that Vols were the ones doing the work in situations such as the kidnappings in December. My source isn't the most reliable, but I thought that it was information to be shared. Food for thought, perhaps.

The lack of a Vol voice in the recent developments was also mentioned.

I also have a very large amount of international press [...] should you be interested in last week's news. I apologise that it isn't sooner or better than that. First pick of them is yours.

You did a brave thing, Nawal, with your strike. I hope that more people will learn about it in the future.

journal: sunday morning

I'm sick of not having the news Does anyone have any book recommendations? I've worked through a decent amount of the pitiful excuses for French and German language sections in this library. I don't expect there's anything in my native tongue and I'm not going to ask that bitch if she has anything Dutch.

Also: films. Television. Anything.

I'm loading up on distractions, which is absurd because we know nothing so there is nothing to be distracted from.

I don't know who ACLU are but I doubt they are concerned about non-Americans us all For anyone in one of the 27 EU Member States who's similarly noted that several recent developments are further infringements on the ECHR, you can contact the Court to apply for a hearing through their website here. As member states I believe it has to be signed and ratified by all of them, before they can even join, and there's certainly conflict between IVF and EU legislation.

My grasp of politics is a little rusty, but has no one done this yet and we have an international organisation to protect us I do have a little faith left in it may be worth a try.

I expect we would have heard already if any of these were Elsa, even if that huge diamond heist was her thing.

Who is the plant communication Vol? You're close to being upstaged by science.

FILTER: Harlow, Edwin, Muhammad
Nawal's birthday is on Thursday. I know a couple of you had plans, are they in order? Can I help?

FILTER: Val
Hello. Are you good at shopping for birthday presents? It's my roommate's on Thursday.

FILTER: Conner [all unsent]
Why are you keeping something from me
I don't know what it is but you're keeping something from me
Did you know that it's different when I know you're hiding something
I hate surprises so please don't be hiding something ridiculous for my birthday as it's making me worry. This feels bigger though, it's not just something stupid. I'd rather it were something stupid.
I hate this power

Can people here please stop having fights. It gives me a headache and No one here has the power of idiocy affinity, so it really doesn't bring any benefit to those of us here. Except, unless, there's some kind of social advantage in sporting a bruise over the eye.

If someone does have the power of affinity with stupid actions such as throwing a punch in a crowded room, however, please accept my apologies for assuming otherwise.

Opening this one up for maximum input: what do you get as an engagement gift for your brother and his fiancée, but bear in mind that you have little feelings other than contempt for said fiancée. I'm not about to call her "sister" so anything relating to that is most definitely out. She also doesn't understand anything subtle, so there is potential to cause some insult as it would go over her head.

Answers on a postcard, thank you for your time.

[FILTER: Conner]
I have a theory and I've been mulling it over ever since last week. Also, yours tonight?

The usual. Collected over the past week and a bit.

Officer investigated after submitting witness statement in character as animal (I have to admit that I like the British humour)
'Batman' brings in suspect to Bradford police (More British humour, my apologies)
Dead Mice Are Going To Be Dropped On Guam From Helicopters (Really) (No comment)
'Gigantic' diamond heist at Brussels Airport (This reminds me a little of a former inmate, if perhaps she turned to diamonds instead of art or whatever it was she

You're welcome, etc.

Come on, who's got a fun power and wants to experiment? I've got that Remy kid's. I can't wait to see what I can make with it.

There haven't been any weird news stories to share because even the eventful news is weird. Asteroids and meteors. So in that spirit, here's my favourite link of the week:
Gawker: Aliens Are Coming For You: Here’s What You Need to Know

Oh, & this was quite interesting although I'm no science person: Scans reveal intricate brain wiring.

[FILTER: ASTRID (& CONNER so he can read)]
I'm sure you can agree with the advice on this one. How was the dance?

[FILTER: HUNTER]
Training last week? I'm joking, but I saw the headline about "sophisticated hackers" and thought to share it with you.

(during internet time)

Today's weird news story is brought to you by the realisation that maybe they left some crazy people outside of here. Colour me incredibly shocked.

FILTER: CONNER, HUNTER, ALEJO
I take it back, I never want to transfer teams. This has gone from being annoying to absolutely hilarious. The only way to cope is to laugh, or I'll just go cry or something. And I don't cry.

Please remind me of that in the future. Thank you.

The good uses of my power: getting gone from the scene of an impending fight

Alright, here's this week's. Rianne's best of the world news stories. I branched away a little from my beloved BBC Worldwide for this week.

Shark wrestler: Welsh tourist Paul Marshallsea to the rescue in Australia (included because this man may be a complete badass but has the strangest accent)
Where vegetarianism is an exotic illness (Any vegetarians here? This tells you where not to go)
Lolcat art: Gallery hosts exhibition of cat phenomenon (People still find lolcats funny?)
Gary the goat has his day in court (no words for this one)
Most parents 'lie to their children' (In other news: Pope is Catholic, bears shit in woods)
Antibiotic 'apocalypse' warning (not quite what the title suggests, but interesting anyway)

And this one is definitely the strangest article I've read this week:
Cannibal Cop’s Online Friend Bragged of Eating a ‘Black Woman and a White Child’ and ‘Roasting Whole Pelvises’

I'm trying to only post the weird headlines of the week from BBC Worldwide once a week, but sometimes there's some that are too strange to save up for a set day. Today is one of those days, I'm afraid. This news item was too strange for me to save up for my usual post, so here's a bonus weird headline of the day on me.

Norway goat cheese fire closes tunnel

My favourite part: Kjell Bjoern Vinje, of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, said it was the first time he could remember cheese catching fire on Norwegian roads. "I didn't know that brown cheese burns so well," he said.

I'm not going to lie, that cheese does sound like it could be tasty. As long as it doesn't catch fire on my plate.

[info]riannes

There wasn't much in the way of strange or interesting yet trivial news items this week, but here are my favourites nonetheless.

Australian amateur prospector finds massive gold nugget (worth it for the picture of a weird-shaped piece of gold and weirder men losing their shit over it)
Australia: What the rest of the world gets wrong (some of it still seems accurate)
The pun conundrum (I just like puns)
Why are the British revolted by the idea of horsemeat? (Spoiler: the French aren't, article asks for "alternative theories" other than the blindingly obvious)
Why do criminals smuggle garlic? (Apparently smuggling garlic can make you millions. Who knew.)
Does chocolate make you clever? (This one is older, but I dredged it up for my dear friend Mo.)

Enjoy, read, share. You're welcome.

That statue is downright creepy terrifying if you come across it at night interesting? are there going to be more as there should be different. Some very talented artists here.

Here are some news articles I've been reading, from the interesting to downright inane. If anyone is lacking reading material:
'Exceptional' find of Roman statues linked to poet Ovid
Toy company's West Coast rail bid turned down by DfT (I can't say that I understand the British humour like this)
Apophis asteroid: Large space rock flies past Earth
Sony unveils bath-friendly Xperia Z smartphone (Because what I have always wanted is to be annoyed by a mobile phone when bathing)
Is Belgium still the capital of chocolate? (Yes)

Forgive me if this is intruding, but I'm not the sort to go looking up numbers in the directory either.

This is Rianne. From the safehouse. Belgian. Knew you wanted to punch someone. If you remember.

Saw you came back too.

My brother came to visit me on the 24th. For those who don't have brothers, especially a twin brother, I'll just say we're the ones who aren't alike. He's currently studying to become a doctor, and is not a vol. I mostly decided to stay in Amsterdam until the end of this week to avoid the extended family, as my older sister has children and I'm not fond. Naturally Sander decided that he should bring some of the family celebration to me.

I'm showing him around the city for a bit today, and then hopefully he will get lost be on his way back soon.

Zalig Kerstfeest en Gelukkig Nieuwjaar.

[attached are a couple of photos of Rianne and a very tall and freckled man, in front of a Christmas tree and a Coffee Shop. The man is clearly enjoying the tourist experience.]

Don't let the blue in that sky fool you; it was simply a break in the rain. But it was a lovely sight to see.

Tot ziens, IVI. I will see you in January after some rest and recuperation.

[FILTER: FLAMINGO]
As most people seem to be sharing: I'll be in Amsterdam until the 27th, Oostende over the New Year and then back to Amsterdam. I suppose If you would like a souvenir or something brought back, let me know. Although the best souvenirs of there would probably be confiscated the moment I try to fly anywhere with them. Have a restful break.

[FILTER: CLEM, BELGIANS]
Amsterdam and Oostende for me over the holiday. If any of you who are closer will be around please feel free to call perhaps.
