UNIVERSAL IDOL S2: FINALS, Ep1

[info]benjamin_bale
[info]freedomtownic
In a departure from the typical typical opening, the first part of the finals opened cold to a shot of the finalists, Olive Penderghast and Queen Barb, both dressed in cute, yet sexy little Santa dresses, with knee-high black boots, black spiked choker collars, and elbow-length black gloves.

With the backing band playing behind them, the two best friends opened up the show with a fun, hard-rocking Christmas song, "Santa Claus Is Back In Town".

After the end of the song, Ben walked out onto the stage, wearing jeans, sneakers, and a Van Halen-themed Christmas sweater. He shook hands with both women, before walking up to the microphone.

"Ladies and Gentlemen... welcome to the Season 2 finale of Universal Idol! We started with 13 hopefuls, and now we are down to the final two. First, let's say hello once more to our judges... Rachelle Martin-Bale, Meredith Delany, Kyle Sutherland, and Kayla Barnes!"

After giving each judge a quick closeup, the camera went back to Ben, who finished bringing everyone up to date on where we began, and where we are right now.

Clips of each of the final three performers opened the show, highlighting each of their journeys to the semifinals.

After lining all three up on the stage, Ben congratulated each being sure to sincerely tell them that he has become a true fan of all three of them.

He then announced that going home this week would be... Alex Manes-Guerin.

The finals would be the Battle of the Best Friends: Olive Penderghast vs. Queen Barb!

A short promotional video started off the show, with close-up photos of each of the remaining three singers. Ben's voice could be heard narrating as music played in the background.

"Week after week of close calls with voting. Of highs and lows. Of some of the most inspired performances we've seen yet. After all this, we are down to three candidates for your next Universal Idol."

"This week, Alex Manes-Guerin, Queen Barb, or Olive Penderghast will be sent home, and we will find out who will be competing next week, right here, in the Season 2 Finals."

[info]benjamin_bale
[info]freedomtownic
This week, the show began with a voiceover:

"For the last six weeks, we've watched our performers have to fend for themselves, and prove that they're not only talented, but also survivors. This week... they learn to combine taking guidance with knowing what's best for them as we enter Mentors Week."

Then, photos of each performer and mentor began to be shown on the screen.

"This week, we'll see Olive Penderghast mentored by Bad Reputation's Ginnifer Callaway. Alex Manes-Guerin mentored by Eternal Embrace's Kaitlin Crowe. Queen Barb mentored by Scream Queens' Skylar Bale. And Spencer Quill mentored by A Woman Scorned's Morgan Raleigh."

(Starting this week, the remaining eliminations will be voted on by you! Between Tuesday, Dec. 1st at 11pm EST and Thursday, Dec. 3rd at 11pm, each player in the game will be allowed to send ONE email to Dan, stating which performer they would choose to keep in the competition. At 11pm on Dec. 3rd, whoever has the least amount of votes will be eliminated!)

[info]benjamin_bale
[info]freedomtownic
After the usual opening, video segments were played showing each of the remaining contestants paths to this point so far. From their auditions to the judges' first reactions to them, to how they performed this week.

Eventually, all five performers were brought out onstage, with Ben walking out to address the fans.

"Each week, we're consistently getting more and more votes than we did even last season... and this week was no exception. One thing that was a bit different though... we had the closest voting race we've EVER had this week. Only 1 few hundred votes separated the highest vote-getter from the lowest. All of you should be incredibly proud of yourselves, and of the impression you made on our audience and judges."

"Unfortunately... one of you must be eliminated regardless. And this week... the performer going home will be... Neveah Dean-Ramirez."

[info]benjamin_bale
[info]freedomtownic
The show kicked off with highlights of last week's duets, the unprecedented quality of each performance, and clips of the judges being blown away by all six singers.

A clip was shown of Rachel Berry being eliminated, complete with her now-former "arch-nemesis" Rachelle Martin-Bale giving her a standing ovation after her name was called.

Benjamin Bale then walked out to begin the live broadcast, giving the audience a quick rundown of the five performers that remained, before introducing each of the judges. Like Rachelle had said on the network earlier in the day, she indeed was in celebratory mode, her section of the table covered in a Terrible Towel, a Steelers pennant, and a black-and-gold End Zone banner, advertising both of it's locations. And of course, Rachelle herself was wearing black-and-gold spandex leggings with a Chase Claypool jersey and a Steelers cap on her head, giving a cheesy double thumbs-up to the camera as it passed her.

Spencer Quill & Rachel Berry

Ben introduced each of the judges, and could be heard mumbling "Oh for god's sake" when the camera landed on Rachelle, covering her section of the table with a Terrible Towel and giving a cheesy thumbs-up.

[info]benjamin_bale
[info]freedomtownic
As usual, the show opened with a clip featuring each of the seven remaining contestants, each singing their hearts out this week. It showed the judges literally unable to even find anything bad to say about any of the performances, then finally a split-screen shot of all seven contestants.

After a promotional clip telling the fans that next week would be Duets Week, they cut to Ben onstage with the seven performers, again stating how great each of them were this week.

When they finally got that out of the way, Ben made the announcement that this week's elimination would be....... Ally.

This week, the show opened with a dramatic montage of all the remaining vocalists preparing for this week's performances, with a voiceover from Benjamin Bale explaining that one of these people will win the right to be Full Moon Entertainment's next superstar.

After the show's opening, Ben once again welcomed all the viewers, explaining the rules and reminding them who was left. He then again introduced the four judges, starting with Kyle, then moving to Kayla... before panning over to Rachelle hanging a little sign in front of where Meredith sat, that had a cartoonish crab on it and said "Crabs Live Here". Sigh. Keep it classy, Rachelle.

After the performance, Ben once more gathered all the performers onstage to announce this week's elimination... which was Maya Matlin.

Immediately, Kaitlin Crowe walked back out onto the stage, hugging her friend and newest bandmate, whispering to her how proud she is of her.

Universal Idol opened with a huge pyro display, complete with oversized video walls showing photos and bios of all the contestants, with a voiceover welcoming all viewers in attendance and watching at home.

The camera finally panned over to Benjamin Bale, wearing dress jeans and a black suitcoat over a vintage Van Halen "5150" tee.

"Hello everyone, and welcome to Season 2 of Universal Idol! Two contestants will be eliminated each of the first two weeks, with one elimination per week afterwards, until we are left with one winner, who will receive a guaranteed recording contract with Full Moon Entertainment and promoted throughout seven planets."

He pointed to the video wall, where pictures of each perform were shown.

"This year, we bring to you:

Alex Manes!
Craig Manning!
Audrey Rose!
Kevin Van Warren!
Ally!
Maya Matlin!
Olive Penderghast!
Queen Barb!
Rachel Berry!
Neveah Dean-Ramirez!
Spencer Quill!
Tilde Tyler!

And of course, the show couldn't be complete without our panel of judges...

Returning from last season, she's the vocalist of A Woman Scorned, an sctress, and the owner of The End Zone... Full Moon artist Rachelle Martin-Bale!

Also returning from last season, the woman some have called the heart and compassion of the show, Full Moon recording artist Meredith Delany!

New to the program this season, someone who is no stranger to knowing how to entertain, actor Kyle Sutherland!

And finally, also new this season, a woman as whip-smart and entertaining as she is beautiful, head bartender at The End Zone and longtime associate of Full Moon Entertainment, Kayla Barnes!"

After the introduction of each of the four judges, the rules were then explained to the viewers:

Each contestant will sing one song of their choosing on the first episode of the week. During each performance, a number would be shown on-screen for viewers to send a text to in order to vote for that performer. After taking a day off to compile the votes, the second episode would then announce the two performers with the lowest vote totals. Those two will be eliminated from the competition.

((OOC: Each week, the starter post will go up on Sunday. The contestants will have until Tuesday at 5pm EST to get their performances posted. Not posting a performance will be an automatic elimination, and the performance will hand-waved. The judes will then have until Thursday evening at 8pm EST to get their critiques done, at which time the eliminations will be announced via a new post. ))

Universal Idol - Week 7 - Eliminations and Finale!

[info]ftownmods
[info]freedomtownic
The show opens with a little more fanfair than usual. This is the finale, after all. The culmination of seven weeks of blood, sweat, tears, and in some cases...alcohol. A host outside of the Idol Arena interviews fans as they wait to get inside. Who is your favorite? Any predictions for what to expect tonight? The live fan interviews are intercut with home-video clips. Recordings made by fans from across the universe who have fallen in love with the show and its performers. This show really has succeeded in becoming a Universal phenomenon.

The camera cuts to an interior shot of the arena. Fans of all shapes and sizes are packed into their seats, cheering and waving their hands. It swings around to the stage and closes in on Skylar James-Bale, wife of producer Benjamin Bale, who has stepped in to be the face of the competition since “The Incident” during week five.

Skylar smiled at the audience before looking toward the camera. "Thank you everyone for coming tonight, and thank you to those that are tuning in at home. I think we were all surprised at just how much of a positive reaction we got when we debuted. I think everyone was craving having something of their own here in Galador, and this, Universal Idol, has really become something that everyone, both native citizens and transplants, can gather together to watch and cheer for their favorites, and we are so happy to have had the chance to bring that to you."

"Anyway, as a reminder, the prize for winning is a guaranteed recording contract with Full Moon Entertainment, and the winner will be promoted throughout (currently) 5 planets. Hopefully, next round, we'll be able to promote even to even more planets."

"We hope that you enjoy the show that we've prepared, and, anyway, on with the show!" She held her hand up and waved at the audience, blowing a kiss to them before heading off stage.

On with the show! )

After the usual opening, several clips were shown of not only the performers remaining, but of the judges discussing them, and of multiple fans outside the studio happily shouting out who their favorites were.

A deep voice began to speak over the crowd.

"It started with 16 hopeful singers... tonight, only two will remain. With a guaranteed contract with Full Moon Entertainment hanging in the balance... which two performers will go on to the Universal Idol finals?"

Short interview clips were shown between ads, of each of the remaining contestants, along with a few promotional ads for the finals.

Finally, it came time to announce the eliminations. This would be hard, no matter who was going home. All four remaining had come so far, and in their own ways, each deserved to be in the finals. But only two were going to go... as Sophia Wilson and Enid Rhee were announced as this week's eliminations.

UNIVERSAL IDOL - WEEK 5 - ELIMINATIONS

[info]rockinrachelle
[info]freedomtownic
While the opening of the show was the same as it was each week, with clips being shown of each of the remaining contestants performing that week's songs. But once that ended, it was a VERY different beginning to the show. Rather than Ben standing there addressing the crowd, the only person shown was Rachelle Martin-Bale, looking hung-over, embarrassed, and deeply shamed.

"Before anything else happens, I wanted to come out here and apologize for my behavior on the last episode. To put it mildly, I had a traumatic memory triggered by one of the song choices, and rather than deal with it like any rational human being, I fell apart, and after trying to leave and being told to go back to my seat, I decided to drink the pain away while still on the air."

She sighed, shaking her head. This was an almost eerie sight for anyone who knew what Rachelle was typically like. Gone was the boisterous, loud, vulgar hurricane of a person. Here instead was a damaged, ashamed, remorseful woman.

"I'm no role model. Never have been. But that last episode... was beyond the kind of behavior even I typically condone. You know I'm all for drinking for the fun of it. But I always tell people that if you're drinking to numb yourself, or because you feel you need to... that's when it's time to take a step back. I want to apologize first to the performers. My idiot self took the shine and the spotlight away from your amazing performances. I'm so proud of the effort all of you put into it this week. I'd also like to apologize to my fellow judges. Giles and Queen Shiklah barely know me, and that put them in a really awkward, uncomfortable situation that there was no excuse for. And Meredith... she's an old friend of mine who put up with me when I was at rock bottom. She stuck by me when people were literally just waiting for the phone to ring to tell them I was dead somewhere. And the way I acted was a slap in the face to her. And I am entirely ashamed of myself."

Hmm. Note there was no apology to Ben, the producer of the show. Perhaps she was aware of what all had happened?

"All I can do is promise you all: you'll never see that again. I will never let my own demons ruin things for other people again. I hope the performers, the audience, and my peers will be able to forgive me, and trust me enough to continue working with me."

After that, the show went about it's typical format, before announcing each of the week's two eliminations. This week, the contestants sent home were Mary Jane Watson, and Lita Todd. Notably, after Lita was eliminated, Ellis Shepherd immediately came out to hug and comfort her new friend, giving her a sweet little kiss on top of the head and audibly telling her she did wonderfully.

Once the opening of the show concluded, the announcer reminded everyone that this week was Duets Week, just before a short montage video was shown, highlighting each of the four duets, and accompanied by a few of the judges' comments.

Greeting the crowd in his typical, friendly-yet-smarmy manner, Ben took the stage to announce that next week would be Mentor's Week, where each of the remaining competitors would have to work with a mentor from Full Moon Entertainment, who would help them craft a performance via creative teamwork.

The crowd held it's collective breath when the moment came to announce the eliminations... each of the remaining eight singers had truly gained a fanbase by this time, and no matter who went, it was going to seem shocking.

Even knowing that, the shock and gasping of the audience was evident when it was announced that this week, Noah Guerin and Ellis Shepherd had been eliminated.

UNIVERSAL IDOL - WEEK 2 ELIMINATIONS

[info]benjamin_bale
[info]freedomtownic
After the opening theme and introductions, a short montage video was shown of all the Round One performers, and the songs they'd chosen these past two weeks.

When the live footage resumes, the camera focuses in on Benjamin Bale, standing alone on the stage in faded jeans, sneakers, and a vintage Van Halen "5150" shirt.

"When I thought of Universal Idol, the reason was twofold. First, I wanted to find a way to bring some of the galaxy's attention back to Galador, and the tragedy and rebuilding it's been going through. Second, as I'm trying to rebuild Full Moon Records in this world, I need something to bring the public to us. Something to really bring money in to build the label AND to build what we're capable of. And what better way to do that than a galaxy-wide competition? This competition isn't just about winning and losing. Yes, the winner is guaranteed money and a contract, but you can be sure that if you, the audience, show us how much you love someone, we will listen, whether they win or lose. With that in mind... as we have five eliminations this week, let's get right to the first of the night."

UNIVERSAL IDOL - WEEK 2, EPISODE 2

[info]mrsdeadpool
[info]freedomtownic
Universal Idol opened with a huge pyro display, complete with oversized video walls showing photos and bios of all the contestants, with a voiceover welcoming all viewers in attendance and watching at home.

Before the start of the show, there's an announcement of due to technical difficulties there will be no eliminations for Week One. After a short introduction of each of the judges, announcing the departure of Prudence Melinda Halliwell with Queen Shiklah taking her place, the rules were then explained to the viewers and how five contestants will be eliminated this week.

Each contestant will sing one song of their choosing on this episode. During each performance, a number would be shown on-screen for viewers to send a text to in order to vote for that performer. After taking a day off to compile the votes, the third episode would then announce the five performers with the lowest vote totals. Those five will be eliminated from the competition.

Good evening, all.

As promised, here are the official details for the beginning of Universal Idol.

As previously stated, the winner is guaranteed a recording contract with Full Moon Entertainment, and will be promoted throughout (currently) 5 planets. This is subject to expand.

The competition will begin with 15 singers.

At the end of the first week... the five with the fewest amount of votes are sent home.

The following two weeks, the two with the least votes will be sent home.

From that point on, each week the one contestant with the least amount of votes will be sent home, until two remain. They will then compete in the finals.

There will be four judges, that will critique each performance. Those judges will be singer/actress Rachelle Martin-Bale, club owner Prudence Melinda Halliwell, former musician Rupert Giles, and singer/guitarist/songwriter Meredith Delany.

Now, without further ado, here is the list of contestants for the inaugural edition of Universal Idol:

Penny St. Claire
Enid Rhee
Ellis Shepherd
Adilyn Bellefleur
Marcus The Diabetic Gladiator Centaur Werewolf With A Symbiote and Robot Legs
Ash Kowalski
Lita Todd
Noah Guerin
Ben Braeden
Jeremy Lewis
Mary Jane Watson
Jack Damon
Beth Greene
Brian Pritchard
Jolene Kinney

The live premiere will be next Tuesday, July 9th at 8pm, with a results show the next night each week.

Good luck to everyone!
