HEAD'S UP EVERYBODY!

Just wanted to put this up to wish a very happy birthday to the most most awesome, gorgeous girlfriend a guy could ask for, my best friend and bandmate Ms. Olive Penderghast!

I can't believe that I'm the first one to be doing this...

Anyway, not counting as the three-album deal that I've signed with Rachelle, here is an EP filled with the studio versions of the songs that I performed on Universal Idol.

Band name to be revealed with our first single. )

Also... are there ANY available drummers out there looking to become a permanent part of a band?

Well, Brooke and I start the year off with 4 children, soon to be 5, as Brooke grows closer to giving birth. As you saw in her post we welcomed Chase Alan Scott and Kingston James Scott to the family. Sydney is our only little girl for a few more weeks. If it wasn't for our nannies we would be going crazy!

Back to the point of this update. The Writers Block will be having a Book Club starting this month. We are also still hiring, more so now that our head Barista Olive is becoming famous.

That being said, the info for the book club is down below. Sign up now.

BIG BOOK CLUB, PART 1
Thursday, January 21 | 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
THIS WINTER: 2666
A two-part book club discussion of Roberto Bolano’s novel, 2666.

The Big Book Club tackles some of the thickest and most enduring novels in world literature. Broken into two sessions over four months, the club invites readers to experience these books at a leisurely pace and to enjoy the companionship of fellow readers making the same journey at the same time.

In 2066, three academics are on the trail of a reclusive German author. A New York reporter on his first Mexican assignment; a widowed philosopher; a police detective in love with an elusive older woman—these are among the searchers drawn to the border city of Santa Teresa, where over the course of a decade hundreds of women have disappeared.

In the words of The Washington Post, “With 2666, Roberto Bolaño joins the ambitious overachievers of the twentieth-century novel, those like Proust, Musil, Joyce, Gaddis, Pynchon, Fuentes, and Vollmann, who push the novel far past its conventional size and scope to encompass an entire era…”

This is the first of two book-club sessions. Attendees are encouraged to read 2666 through Chapter 3 (pg. 349) by this first meeting.

Olive, you have been doing amazing on Idol! I did not realize you could sing like that! I am proud to have you working at The Writer's Block even more so now. Keep up the good work! We're watching!

And everyone else, too, it's a very talented season this year. Normally I do not watch these types of shows but with Olive on, I did, and I am actually enjoying the show.

Maybe there's just love in the air today. I don't know.

I just know that I'm in the mood to see and hear all about love today. So here's what I want y'all to do:

1. Post a picture of your significant other or crush that you feel is a perfect representation of them.
2. Tell me about either how you got together or why you crush on said person.
3. When applicable, tell me one sweet or cute story that made you first notice/have feelings for this person.

Don't let me down, y'all!

Summer Writing Workshops!

[info]lucasscott_
[info]freedomtownic
This summer students will get a chance to publish their work! This writing workshop is structured for your child to complete one story accompanied by their own artwork which will then be compiled into their very own book.

The more sessions your child signs up for, the more books they walk away with.

Not only does this promote creativity, but this gives them a look at an author’s side of things as they continue to read with you or on their own! The best way to encourage your child to write, beyond a grade, is to give your child an audience. And what better way to do that than by showing them their work in their very own self-published hardback book!

The curriculum and activities will focus on grammar, vocabulary, reading, and writing. Our writing will be journal based responses to the lessons and topics we cover each day. Those pieces will then be compiled into an autobiography style book. Students must be at least 5 years old and have completed preschool or an equivalent program.

Workshop is June 8 - 12 at your chosen time of 1.5 hours per day.
Incoming 2nd & 3rd graders will publish a story from one or more of the chosen genres: Superheros, Adventure, and/or Myths & Legends!

$125 per week (price will change to $50 when his paperwork goes through)

Workshops are held in 2-week intervals, Monday - Friday at your chosen time of 2 hours per day.

Incoming 4th & 5th graders will publish a story from one or more of the chosen genres: Mystery, Science Fiction, and/or Adventure! - June 15-26

Incoming 6th - 8th graders will publish a story from one or more of the chosen genres: Adventure, Fairytales, or Science Fiction! - June 29-July 10

Incoming 9th - 12th graders will publish a story from one or more of the chosen genres: Myths & Legends, Fables, and/or a book of poems! July 13-24

$175 per week (price will be $75 when his paperwork goes through)

Sign up now.

I'm getting more interesting, yet difficult cases specializing in obstetrics and fertility. I was going through my journals for answers on the Walker case. Then I remembered my journal I left back home when I was trying to help my sister, Rachel conceive. I wished for that journal. As I cleaned up I found it. It was there with the others. I've looked there a thousand times. It hasn't been there until today.

The Writer's Block's Newest Workshop is coming up

[info]lucasscott_
[info]freedomtownic
As our previous two workshops come to a close in a week, I am putting up a sign-up for our next workshop open to over 18 and up for the month of April, three Saturdays in a row.

1. The Writer's Block is pleased to present an exclusive event for mystery & thriller writers! On April 11th and every Saturday through to April 25th, our Mystery & Thriller class will provide expert insights from award-winning and best-selling authors on the finer points of how to write within the mystery and thriller genres.

Spend the next few weekends learning techniques for honing your craft then (if you choose) pitch the first chapter of your novel via query letter to a literary agent specifically looking for material in the mystery or thriller genre. The agent will provide you with a personalized critique of your query – and maybe ask to see more.

Alright so this is coming to you all a little late. Kate and I were just taking a breather for a moment. I'm sure all you parents out there get it.

On Monday night our family welcome Jacob Jensen Jr into the family. 8 lbs 2 oz, He's so much bigger than the twins were when they were born. I can't believe how perfect he is.

We're asking that you call me before you come by.

As I last mentioned I was opening a book thrift store. The Writers Block is now open and I am having my first two events for the children and pre-teens out there. The book store is located in New Orleans and now Brooke is close to me where she works.

These workshops are both free and are to build love in writing in children. Without further ado, here is the sign-ups for my two workshops. They will be every Saturday for two weeks so this is a commitment if you sign up. I hope to see some of you there.

[By popular demand I have decided to add a class for those 13-17-year-olds interested in a workshop. Please sign up below. Thank you.]

1.SURPRISE PARTY
Saturday March 21 @ 11:00AM - Saturday April 04 @ 12:00PM
WRITING WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS AGES 5-8
MAR. 21, 28, & APR. 4 FROM 11AM-12PM

Shhhh! Quiet! Don't move a muscle or you'll ruin the whole surprise! Who is the unsuspecting creature wandering its way down the conspicuously quiet hallway? Will they be shocked and amazed? Or overwhelmed with terror? The surprise party lies in wait, hoping for the ultimate shock and awe from its unwary prey...

Registration for this workshop will close on Monday, March 16th at 11:59 pm. If more than 14 students register, there will be a random lottery to determine placement in the workshop. Registrants and those waitlisted will receive a notification on Tuesday, March 17th.

2. THE JUNGLE GIANT
Saturday March 21 @ 01:00PM - Saturday April 04 @ 02:00PM
WRITING WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS AGES 9-12
MAR. 21, 28, & APR. 4 FROM 1PM-2PM

Tree frogs, both poisonous and not, tremble in its wake. Is it gentle or malicious? How does it move across the swaths of foliage so quickly? The jungle giant knows no bounds and leaves only elephantine footsteps behind. But the most important question remains, what will it do next?

Registration for this workshop will close on Monday, March 16th at 11:59pm. If more than 14 students register, there will be a random lottery to determine placement in the workshop. Registrants and those waitlisted will receive notification on Tuesday, March 17th.

3. A NIGHT AT THE THEATER
Saturday February 29 @ 01:00PM - Saturday March 14 @ 04:00PM
WRITING WORKSHOP FOR STUDENTS AGES 13-17
FEB. 29, MAR. 7 & 14 FROM 1PM-2PM

Over the balustrade and underneath the trap door, shrieks pierce the crowded amphitheater. Hiding amid a flurry of harried ballerinas, dripping backstage decor, and a slew of artificial foliage is a mysterious cloaked figure. Who can it be? What has this strangely clad individual done? Only you can uncloak this dastardly fiend.

Registration for this workshop will close on Monday, February 24th at 11:59 pm. If more than 14 students register, there will be a random lottery to determine placement in the workshop. Registrants and those waitlisted will receive a notification on Tuesday, February 25th.

I have been having meetings these last few months about potentially opening a bookstore. Now I know we have a lot around these parts, but this would be a little different. Now that all the plans are set as for where my location will be, conveniently located next to the Red, White and Blue Bakery in New Orleans.

I chose New Orleans since my wife, Brooke also has a shop located there. New Orleans perfectly suits the kind of theme I am going for in my bookshop.

I would like to know some of your opinions on this while we work on details. What would you think of a bookstore that was also sort of thrift store funky sort of store that also sells a great variety of trinkets. The back of my store will even have a small workshop to write and print beginner-books so you can all reach inside for your creative side also.

More details about The Writers Block coming soon.
