Since I know him well enough to know he'd keep it low-key and not make a big deal out of it, let's all take a second to congratulate the new Chief of Surgery at Xavier Memorial Hospital, Dr. Jackson Avery!

This is a surgeon so remarkable that he just got here from our world a couple weeks ago, and was already asked to accept the position. We gone from interim chief to interim chief since Richard left in the purges, and now we finally have a true Chief again.

Congrats, Jackson! You deserve this!

I'm still not convinced I'm not imagining all of this. But damn, if I am? I hope it never stops.

My best friend is here. Our daughter is here. A second version of her is here, that's in her 20s. That was an awkward but amazing meeting. And best of all... our son is here. We held him in our arms when he was only a few hours old, and watched him leave us... and now he's here, and... he's an amazing young man and I've never felt more proud of anything in my life.

And then there's the career part of this.

Turns out a lot of people I know are here, and they work at Xavier Memorial Hospital. Went there to talk about working with reconstructive surgery, ended up in talks to be Chief of Surgery, so... that's a thing that happened.

Annnnd now my dad's here. No big, really. I love him, but I was much closer to my mom growing up.

But so help me Jesus, if Gramma Catherine shows up here, I am gonna smack someone. Hard.

It's gonna be a long damn time before I completely accept any of this as being my life now.

Folks at the welcome center were great though. They did as good a job breaking this all to me as is probably possible. Already helped me get set up with a place to stay and an opportunity to interview with one of the local hospitals.

Anyway, I'm Dr. Jackson Avery. Glad to meet you all. Don't mind me if I seem very... overwhelmed for a while.

Just wanted to take a moment out of the afternoon to wish a very Happy Mother's Day to my mom, best friend, and role model - the beeeeeeeeeeeeeee-YOO-tiful Dr. April Kepner!

You know, when I was a little girl, my grandma always hammered it into my head that as an Avery, I was destined for greatness. And that it was my responsibility to do great things.

Of course, she meant "become a doctor". Still... dating a superhero and making sure he's happy and healthy should qualify as doing great things, right?
