UNIVERSAL IDOL - WEEK 2, EPISODE 2
Universal Idol opened with a huge pyro display, complete with oversized video walls showing photos and bios of all the contestants, with a voiceover welcoming all viewers in attendance and watching at home.

Before the start of the show, there's an announcement of due to technical difficulties there will be no eliminations for Week One. After a short introduction of each of the judges, announcing the departure of Prudence Melinda Halliwell with Queen Shiklah taking her place, the rules were then explained to the viewers and how five contestants will be eliminated this week.

Each contestant will sing one song of their choosing on this episode. During each performance, a number would be shown on-screen for viewers to send a text to in order to vote for that performer. After taking a day off to compile the votes, the third episode would then announce the five performers with the lowest vote totals. Those five will be eliminated from the competition.

((OOC: In the replies. each contestant will have to reply detailing their performance, which will then be replied to by all judges. Each performer will have until Friday evening to post their character’s performance for the week. If you do not have a performance posted by that deadline, your character will be eliminated by default. Five are being eliminated this week.)

PERFORMANCE - NOAH GUERIN
[info]youwantnoah
2019-07-18 04:35 pm UTC (link)
Noah seemed more relaxed as walked out onto the stage the night wearing a sloth shirt and a pair of jeans. The shirt, of course, was a throwback to what Rachelle had told him. He had chosen it to show off his sense of humor and that he didn't take things seriously. That had been this issue the week before; he had been way too serious. This time he seemed more confident and at ease as he walked out to the microphone, an acoustic guitar slung around his back.

"I was given my first real guitar by my mother when I turned four. I can remember being thrilled because I wanted to play music just like her, Uncle Alex, and Grandpa Jim. I was the kid that put on shows for them with my little plastic guitar and I was horrible. I don't know how they put up with me but they did" He laughed. "She taught me how to play, and how to sing, and she's why I'm standing right here on this stage so this one is for you mom" He waved at the camera knowing they were both watching. "... both of you that I have here. I don't know what I would do without either of you"

He turned the guitar around so he could play it and tuned it a little bit then he leaned into the mick with a grin. "Oh and Rachelle? This is for you" He said, looking directly at her when he pointed to his shirt. He played up the moment with her for a few seconds then focused on the task a hand and began strumming on the guitar.

Spent 24 hours, I need more hours with you
You spent the weekend getting even, ooh
We spent the late nights making things right between us
But now it's all good, babe
Roll that Backwood, babe
And play me close

'Cause girls like you run 'round with guys like me
'Til sundown when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
Girls like you love fun, and yeah, me too
What I want when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah

Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
I need a girl like you

I spent last night on the last flight to you
Took a whole day up trying to get way up, ooh
We spent the daylight trying to make things right between us
But now it's all good, babe
Roll that Backwood, babe
And play me close

'Cause girls like you run 'round with guys like me
'Til sundown when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
Girls like you love fun, and yeah, me too
What I want when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah

Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
I need a girl like you

Maybe it's 6:45
Maybe I'm barely alive
Maybe you've taken my shit for the last time, yeah
Maybe I know that I'm drunk
Maybe I know you're the one
Maybe you thinking it's better if you drive

'Cause girls like you run 'round with guys like me
'Til sundown when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah...
'Cause girls like you run 'round with guys like me
'Til sundown when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
Girls like you love fun, and yeah, me too
What I want when I come through
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah

Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
I need a girl like you, yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah, yeah yeah yeah
I need a girl like you

At the very last line, he smiled and winked at the camera. He had told Carly to make sure she watched and that was exactly why. The wink and smile was for her because he did need a girl like her and he was glad he had her. No one knew they were a thing yet so to everyone else, he was just flirting it up with the camera/audience and he was fine with people thinking that. It would help play up the part about him needing more personality.

"A'ight. First of all? Mad props for the shirt. Right hand to god, I almost pissed myself when I saw it." Rachelle laughed, kicking her feet up on the table like she owned the place. "Now... this was a huge step in the right direction. You showed a hell of a lot of improvement tonight. You were smiling, and having fun, and just being likable as fuck. Keep it up, dude. My advice? If you make it to next week... let's see something REALLY surprising. A song choice that nobody who knows you would ever expect."

As the acoustic guitar was Giles' preferred instrument of choice these days, he found those were the performances he most enjoyed while judging. He smiled and relaxed as he listened to Noah play, leaning back in his chair. When the song ended he gave the young man a healthy round of applause.

"Well done, Noah. I see so much improvement from last week. There's no doubt that you're an extremely talented musician. It clearly runs in your family, and I'm certain your mothers are exceedingly proud of you.

I enjoyed this performance quite a bit. You let us see more of your personality, and were clearly having fun with the song choice. I must say your arrangements are top notch. Many artists will slow the song way down when playing an acoustic version of a pop song. You, however, still manage to bring an energy to it, that I find quite refreshing. Very well done. I certainly hope to see you back next week."

Queen Shiklah sat while the others spoke, then she lifted her eyes to look at Noah and smiled, "You can sing, you can play, but honestly, I think you need to stop hiding behind the guitar as Rachelle said, let's see something surprising. Being a performer for the planet, you need to be talented at all things, shake what your mama give ya...I think that's the expression.

Mere had actually burst out laughing when she saw the shirt. She really did enjoy his performance, plus getting to see Noah liven up a little bit more. "See? I told you that sloths were cute!" she insisted to Chelle. "I love how you took what we said to heart and made some improvements, Noah. As long as you keep showing yourself and your sense of humor to the masses, I think you'll go far in the competition."

PERFORMANCE - BRIAN PRITCHARD
[info]dr_pritchard
2019-07-18 08:36 pm UTC (link)
Last week, as the judges spoke to Brian, he figured he needed to come out this week and be more charasmatic. More animated. But after speaking to Meredith backstage, realized that charisma didn't necessarily have to be anything other than showing more emotion, more life.

He'd spent his entire performance last week focused mostly on hoping certain people could hear it.

This week? He was going to make sure everyone heard him. He was going to make sure that the darkness and the sadness he felt deep inside were spread out for all to see.

Walking out onto the stage, wearing black slacks and a red silk dress shirt, choosing to stand this time, rather than sit. Remembering one of the criticisms of his last performance, he kept himself from closing his eyes, instead gazing out into the crowd with an intense, emotional look in his eyes.

"All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere"

Again, his voice was pleasant but untrained, yet held a heartbreaking sadness that fit it perfectly. While no tears were in his eyes, the far-away look in them was somehow MORE devastating.

"Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I wanna drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow"

As he approached the chorus, he began to walk across the stage, meeting eyes with several of the audience members, and then the judges as well.

"And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world, mad world

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
And I feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen

Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me"

Approaching the final chorus, he walked to the front of the stage, sitting on the edge to touch hands with a few of the fans reaching out.

"And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very mad world, mad world

Enlarging your world
Mad world"

As he finished, he made a subtly frustrated face, clearly a little let down by his own performance, before finally looking up to the judges with a soft smile.

"I'm a little torn here." Rachelle admitted, sighing as she watched Brian as if she was expecting him to do tricks. "On one hand, you did what we asked you last week. You were more animated, and made eye contact with the audience. Also, the way you sang that was goddamn heartbreaking. But on the other hand... I'm not sure what happened, but I felt like the confidence and raw pain I heard in your voice last week was wavering big time. Good performance, and great improvement.... just, unfortunately, with a big step backwards tacked on."

Giles was quiet and unreadable throughout the performance. It was clear he was thinking hard about it, but his expression gave nothing away. After the song had ended, he paused, then gave a small sigh. "I imagine that look on your face at the end there was due to a dissatisfaction with your own performance?" Giles gave Brian an empathetic look. He knew how it felt to know you could have done better. "I'm rather in the same boat, I'm afraid. You have this deep well of emotion, and I can tell you're trying to share that with the audience. However, I believe you may have been overthinking things this week. You did clearly keep our notes from last week in mind, which is wonderful. However, you were thinking so hard about making sure to include them, that I think it undercut the emotion of this performance, so things were lost in translation.

"Now, the positive news here, is that I think you have an enormous potential to grow and become a very memorable performer. My biggest suggestion to you this week is practice. Practice practice practice until you can find that balance so get out of your own head a bit during the next performance."

A heavy sigh came from Queen Shiklah, "I can relate to what the others are saying, I think Rachelle got to into your head. You raised your bar but lost what made you, truly you and also this song is such a downer. However, if you do get to move on to next week, you need to find your happy medium, where you are still you and still all of this."

"Well, I certainly hope Chelle didn't get into your head, because I will break a mic stand over hers for it," Mere said. "Maybe it's because I relate to you so much, but I don't feel like you lost as much this week as the others say you did. When I look in your eyes, I can still feel that same raw pain that I felt last week, too. I like how you're trying to bring the audience in more with your performance as well. If anything, I think your performances would work better in a more intimate setting. If you stay on, I think finding a way to bring you closer to everyone while still, you know, being in this large audience will help you a lot."

PERFORMANCE - ASH KOWALSKI
[info]turn_to_ash
2019-07-18 09:46 pm UTC (link)
Before the next segment, a brief clip was shown of Rachelle, sitting backstage talking about Ash Kowalski.

"Me and Ash... we got history. Not necessarily good history, cos I still wanna punch him in the fuckin' dick... but history nonetheless. And as much as I don't like him? I love chaos more. And Ben fucking hates this guy. Which makes me immediately want to see him go far."

She turned, taking a drag from her cigarette, and a sip of her drink.

"But that wasn't gonna happen with how he was last week. Sure, he sounded good... but he stood there like a goddamn tree. For real. Treebeard showed more energy while talking to the Hobbits. So I told him, I said 'Ash. You're a handsome dude. You got that smoldering thing going. And shit, if you could manage to steal my fucking wife, no way you can't seduce every little fangirl in that audience. Use that sexiness. Embrace it. Now all we can do is watch, and see if he actually does it."

The show then cuts from that clip, directly to the stage, where Ash stood under a single spotlight, looking FAR different from last week. Tonight, he wore black jeans, a white tanktop, and a black leather jacket as he began to sing, a smooth R&B-like tone to his voice.

"I'm good, I'm good, I'm great
Know it's been a while, now I'm mixing up the drink
I just need a girl who gon' really understand
I just need a girl who gon' really understand
I'm good, I'm good, I'm great
Know it's been a while, now I'm mixing up the drink
I just need a girl who gon' really understand
I just need a girl who gon' really understand"

Suddenly, the music turned more to a rock beat, as two leather-clad women walked past him, quickly peeling his jacket from him.

"And I seen her get richer on the pole
I've seen her, I knew she had to know
I've seen her take down that tequila
Down by the liter, I knew I had to meet her
Ooh, she mine, ooh, girl, bump and grind
Ooh, she mine, ooh, girl, bump a line
Angelina, lips like Angelina
Like Selena, ass shaped like Selena

I'm like, got up, thank the Lord for the day
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Got up, thank the Lord for the day
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name"

Definitely playing to the women in the crowd, Ash belted the lyrics out while picking up a snakelike rhythm with his hips, coming off shockingly like an experienced stage performer.

I just need a girl who gon' really understand

I've been poppin', just took three in a row
I'm down to do it again, I'm on a roll
I've seen him outside tryna reach her
You tryna leave him, you said I'm the reason
Tell me lies, ooh, girl, tell me lies
Say you're mine, I'm yours for the night
I'm the realest, she said I'm the realest
Head be genius, dick game be the meanest"

He briefly hopped down from the stage, to walk to the front row, singing directly to several of the girls there, who were happy to play along, reacting as if he were in some famous boy band.

"I'm like, got up, thank the Lord for the day
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name

Got up, thank the Lord for the day
Woke up by a girl, I don't even know her name
Bitches in my new spot, crowdin' up my space
Had to check the safe, check the dresser for my chains"

Running back up onto the stage, Ash looked at the camera, giving a little smirk as he finished out the song.

"Got up, thank the Lord for the day
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Got up, thank the Lord for the day
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name
Woke up, woke up by a girl. I don't even know her name"

Enid walked out onto the stage with a huge smile, any sign of nerves that had been apparent the week before were definitely a memory. Along with her demeanor, her outfit was much more casual and relaxed than the fancy get up from before. "How's everybody doing this week?" she laughed as everyone cheered and she walked up to her mark. "Well, I don't know about you, but I just turned eighteen, so I have a whole new world opening up to me. That being said, I still have a lot to get out." She paused, shrugging, "...but I'm sure you'll like it." She got into position and did a little hair flip as the song began...

"I buried the unseemly urges
Deep down in the ground with the roots
But it's all coming up to the surface
Maybe it's getting ready to bloom
And I don't wanna be a monster in the making
I don't wanna be more bitter than sweet
I don't know how to be just standing by blankly
Not getting angry."

She began snapping along with the pre-chorus/hook, "'Cause another and another coming up out of the gutter
Till I'm drowning in an ocean of entitled mother-shhh!" she brought her finger to her lips, censoring herself with a wink and a smirk. She didn't miss a beat before going into the next line.
"And they're pushing all my buttons
But they never seem to wonder why
Another and another, ask each other," the snapping ends as she changes to rock out a bit in a sultry style with the chorus.

"Does it get your blood boiling, does it make you see red?
Do you wanna destroy it, does it get in your head?
Cause it gets my blood boiling and I'm coming unglued
It would hit you like poison if you knew what I knew
You would be angry too

I'm seeing through crimson sunglasses
I'm breathing and counting to ten
I guess I'm out of free passes, they'll pay if it happens again
And I don't wanna drink the venom they made me
I don't wanna be controlled by the past
Boy if you were me, could you really blame me?
Would make you crazy

'Cause another and another coming up out of the gutter
Till I'm drowning in an ocean of entitled mother-ugh!" she opted to let out a grunt in the second chorus, adding a hip swing to accent it. She was able to even let out a single giggle before jumping into the next line.
"And they're pushing all my buttons
But they never seem to wonder why
Another and another, ask each other
Does it get your blood boiling, does it make you see red?
Do you wanna destroy it, does it get in your head?
Cause it gets my blood boiling and I'm coming unglued
It would hit you like poison if you knew what I knew
You would be angry."

She dropped down to her knees, writhing around a bit with each word, running her free hand through her hair, "Calm down girl, why you so mad?
Why's your heart gone
Oh, good girl, why you upset?
Guess they have forgotten what they did."

She jumped up to her feet, doing a near scream as she goes into the final chorus, "And does it get your blood boiling and does it make you see red?
And do you wanna destroy it, does it get in your head?
Cause it gets my blood boiling and I'm coming unglued
It would hit you like poison if you knew what I knew
You would be angry, you would be angry
You would be angry, you would be angry..." She paused, catching her breath a moment as the music suddenly stopped and she spoke the final word softly, "too."

She laughed as she lights went down and she stood in the dark for a moment while the crowd reacted. The smile never leaving her face.

Deciding to go with the idea she'd had last week (of taking a pop song and going rock/metal with it), Ellis decided to try to focus more on her clean vocals this week, while still making sure to have a small piece of the song showcasing her impressive screaming vocals.

Feeling nerves threatening to take over, she reached into the pocket of the tiny denim shorts she wore, fishing out a photo of herself standing with Arizona, Erin, and Kate. Her girls. Her very heart and soul. No matter if she won or lost here... it suddenly didn't matter that much. Not when she knew she had this family to go home to. "Alright, Ellis..." She mumbled to herself. "Let's do this."

She strode out onto the stage brimming with confidence, her Fender hanging at her side.
"Friends come and go, friends come and go
Go like the seasons
I never know, I never know what to believe in
And it's getting old, it's getting old
But no hard feelings
'Cause friends come and go, friends come and go without a reason
And I, I've been in L.A. for way too long
Can't get this air inside my lungs
It feels like I'm suffocatin' from all the lack of the realness here
Is there anybody real out here?
Got my middle, middle up while I'm singing"

She thought about the kids that used to pick on Erin. And how, now that she was growing into a beautiful young woman, those same kids would likely now want to be friends. She thought about her own days as a weird tomboy, and how nobody liked her until she got "hot". Those fake, horrible users, She hoped that this song, as vulgar as it could be, would inspire others to not buy into the shit those people dished out.
"Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
Only thing they're good for is leaving
Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
I've had it up to the ceiling
Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
Only thing they're good for is leaving
And I ain't got the time, money on my mind
I'll say it to your face, fuck fake friends
And lately I've been dealin' with mad stress
Comes with the territory of a Hollywood address
Is anybody real here? I need some fact checks
I need more realness, need you to act less
'Cause they deserve Oscars, so many imposters
What's up with guest lists?
Can I come to your concerts?
We all got demons, I'm dealin' with monsters
I've taken every picture, signed titties and signed shirts
But at the same time I know I'm blessed to be here
So let's just be clear, how many kids wish they had this spot
I got success, it's not a sandy beach chair
Be careful with the people you meet here, I'm sayin'"

She strummed away at her guitar, not worrying about anything except having fun, and performing like the bad-ass she felt like. This was the kind of life she'd wanted as a teen, before finally embracing medicine.
"Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
Only thing they're good for is leaving
Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
I've had it up to the ceiling
Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
Only thing they're good for is leaving
And I ain't got the time, money on my mind
I'll say it to your face, fuck fake friends
We don't need 'em
And I ain't got the time, money on my mind
Say it to my face, don't pretend
And I ain't got the time, money on my mind
I'll say it to your face, fuck fake friends
And I ain't got the time, money on my mind
Say it to my face, don't pretend
And I ain't got the time, money on my mind
I'll say it to your face, fuck fake friends
Is there anybody real out here?
Got my middle, middle up while I'm singing
Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
Only thing they're good for is leaving
Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
I've had it up to the ceiling
Fuck fake friends, we don't need 'em
Only thing they're good for is leaving
And I ain't got the time, money on my mind
I'll say it to your face, fuck fake friends"

As she hit the last note on her guitar, she beamed a bright smile to the judges, before looking out to the crowd. "Thank you!"

As one of the only contestants to really have no negative comments last week, Jeremy felt a bit more confident coming into this week's performance. Wearing faded, well-worn jeans, a pair of army boots, and a loose black dress shirt, opened about halfway, he held a Gibson Les Paul in his hands, beginning to strum away as he looked out into the crowd.

"Every time I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by like dusk to dawn

Isn't that the way?
Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

Yeah, I know nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know it's everybody's sin
You got to lose to know
How to win"

He glanced to the front row, where his wife Iris, and his future-daughter Brynn sat. The pride on their faces as they watched him... it was the best thing he'd ever felt in his life.

"Half my life's in books' written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know it's true
All the things come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away

Yeah, sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good Lord will take you away "

He could hear the tempo picking up, and knew this next part was key. If he screwed this up? It would kill the whole performance. With a moment of focus, he finally began to belt it out,

"Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream comes true
Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream comes through

Dream on, dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on
Dream on, dream on, ah"

He hit the high note expertly, to his obvious relief, steadying himself as he led right into the finale of the song.

"Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away

Sing with me, sing for the year
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tear
Sing with me if it's just for today
Maybe tomorrow, the good Lord will take you away "

The crowd erupted, cheering wildly as he grabbed the mic one last time, pointing down to his family. "Iris? Brynn? I love you so, so much..."

So. Nothing could possibly top the sight of a monstrous centaur singing Bonnie Tyler in terms of sheer ridiculousness, right?

...Right???

Clearly you've underestimated the big creature's love of adult contemporary.

Hooves clacking across the stage, Marcus held the mic tightly in hand, singing his poor, possibly tone-deaf heart out.

"Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you,
That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance
And spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on"

Sigh. God bless him, he was trying. And he wasn't horrible, mind. He'd be perfectly serviceable singing at a karaoke bar or something... but in an actual competition? He wasn't really holding his own.

"Love can touch us one time
And last for a lifetime
And never let go 'til we're gone

Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold to
In my life we'll always go on"

He reached into his... er... screw it. There's no other way to say it. He reached into his fanny pack, and God help us all, pulled out a replica of The Heart of The Ocean, hanging it around his neck before doing his best with the most emotional part of the song...

"Near, far, wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

You're here, there's nothing I fear,
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
You are safe in my heart
And my heart will go on and on"

PERFORMANCE - LITA TODD
[info]huntstheshadow
2019-07-19 01:59 am UTC (link)
Adorably wearing a Panda shirt with jean shorts, electric blue leggings to match her hair, and combat boots, Lita came out with a bright smile waving at the judges and the audience. She was a little nervous about those at home liking her now that voting counted but as she looked at the judges and the crowd, she decided they were the only ones that mattered.

"Who's ready to rock?" She asked as she walked up to the mic, leaving it on the stand that night. She grinned when the audience cheered. "Let's do this!" She explained, pointing at sound man Alex to start her music. What began playing sounded the exact opposite of what she sang last week and that wa her plan. She wanted to showcase more of her voice so she decided to turn give a pop song metal elements and make it her own. She just hoped everyone liked it!

Havana, ooh na-na (ay)
Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (ay, ay)
He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na
Oh, but my heart is in Havana (ay)
There's somethin' 'bout his manners (uh huh)
Havana, ooh na-na

And then the beat dropped, Lita's metal voice mixing with a singing voice. Just like last week, this was when she really began rocking out and feeling the music in her soul.

He didn't walk up with that "how you doin'?"
(When he came in the room)
He said there's a lot of girls I can do with
(But I can't without you)
I knew him forever in a minute
(That summer night in June)
And papa says he got malo in him
He got me feelin' like

For fun, she threw in some Spanish because why not? [ note: cannot find any written down format of the Spanish part and google translate is no help to me so please pretend ] She went back into the chorus one more time with regular singing then grinned and busted out her metal voice for half of the rapping part. It was so fun to go back and forth because no one knew when she was going to!

Just graduated, fresh on campus
Fresh out East Atlanta with no manners,
Fresh out East Atlanta
Bump on her bumper like a traffic jam
Hey, I was quick to pay that girl like Uncle Sam

Show off one more hidden skill, she rapped the rest of it. It was like all of a sudden she had transformed into a thug named Lil Blue with how she presented herself. She had to play up that part of the song, of course!

Back it on me, shawty cravin' on me
Get to eatin' on me
She waited on me
Shawty cakin' on me, got the bacon on me
This is history in the makin' on me
Point blank, close range, that B
If it cost a million, that's me
I was gettin' mula, pretty baby

The rest of the song she treated like she was just a girl having a good time singing in her bedroom by herself. There was no playing it up for the audience or the judges, she was just riding out the rest of the song by enjoying herself and singing her heart out.

Havana, ooh na-na (ay, ay)
Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (oh, ay, ay)
He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na (oh no)
Oh, but my heart is in Havana
My heart is in Havana
Havana, ooh na-na

Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back like
Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back like
Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back like
Ooh na-na, oh na-na-na
Take me back, back, back
Yeah, ay...
Ooh...
Take me back to my Havana...

Havana, ooh na-na
Half of my heart is in Havana, ooh-na-na (oh, yeah)
He took me back to East Atlanta, na-na-na
Oh, but my heart is in Havana
My heart is in Havana (ay)
Havana, ooh na-na

Uh huh
Oh na-na-na...
No, no, no, take me back
Oh na-na-na
Havana, ooh na-na

When she was done, she stepped away from the mic and took a bow with a big smile on her face. She decided bowing at the end of each performance was going to be her thing.

PERFORMANCE - Mary Jane Watson.
[info]emjay
2019-07-19 03:09 am UTC (link)
Mary Jane Waston package mainly showing clips through the week with her picking her song and working on it, the music was muted with her voice overlapping. "I've been singing as long as I can remember, music is something I can always connect with no matter where I am."

The stage is dark as soon as the music started the lights went up and Mary Jane was standing in the middle of the stage with a mic stand, in a tight navy dress that was short in the front and long in the back, with over the knee black boots.

Instantly she raised her hands over her and started to clap for she could get the crowd earlier than last time.

"Tonight we are victorious
Champagne pouring over us
All my friends were glorious
Tonight we are victorious"

Oh oh oh oh victorious"

She unhooked the mic and posed to the side, holding out the note as long as she could.

"Oh oh oh oh"

When the note ended, she was on the move, singing to the crowd, doing hops, jumps, hand movements, and dancing as she really was getting into to.

"Double bubble disco queen
Headed to the guillotine
Skin as cool as Steve McQueen
Let me be your killer king
It hurts until it stops
We will love until it's not
I'm a killing spree in white
Eyes like broken Christmas lights"

Mary Jane moved to the other side of the stage, doing the same thing, working the crowd.

"My touch is black and poisonous
And nothing like my punch drunk kiss
I know you need it
Do you feel it
Drink the water
Drink the wine"

She moved back to the mic stand, hooked back in, holding into the mic she belted out

"Oh we gotta turn up the crazy
Livin' like a washed up celebrity
Shooting fireworks like it's the fourth of July"

She started to jump with the music and then grab the mic again

"Until we feel all right
Until we feel all right"

She started to do tricks with the stand, sliding it with her when she danced as she sung.

"I'm like a scarf trick
It's all up the sleeve
I taste like magic
Waves that swallow quick and deep
Throw the bait
Catch the shark
Bleed the water red
Fifty words for murder
And I'm every one of them
My touch is black and poisonous
And nothing like my punch drunk kiss
I know you need it
Do you feel it
Drink the water
Drink the wine"

She slid away from the stand, unhooking the mic, flipped it in the air and caught it.

"Oh we gotta turn up the crazy
Livin' like a washed up celebrity
Shooting fireworks like it's the fourth of July"

She started to jump again, her hand waving in the air.

"Tonight we are victorious
Champagne pouring over us
All my friends were glorious
Tonight we are victorious
Tonight we are victorious
Champagne pouring over us
All my friends were glorious
Tonight we are victorious"

She moved to the end of the stage, singing with all her might as she sung her heart out.

"Oh we gotta turn up the crazy
Livin' like a washed up celebrity
Shooting fireworks like it's the fourth of July
Until we feel all right
Until we feel all right
Tonight we are victorious
Champagne pouring over us
All my friends were glorious
Tonight we are victorious!"

When the song ended she smiled, this time breathless, and took a few quick steps to pick up the stand.

Rachelle had told her to bring it, so she did. There was no package for Sophia this week, she honestly was thankful for it, because that meant she could she go out there rock out, hopefully not fall flat on her face.

When the bass started, the lights flashed with it and she did different poses for effect. She was dress in a long coat that had a hood and as the lights came up, she started to sing.

"Knew he was a killer first time that I saw him
Wonder how many girls he had loved and left haunted
But if he's a ghost, then I can be a phantom
Holdin' him for ransom
Some, some boys are tryin' too hard
He don't try at all, though
Younger than my exes but he act like such a man, so
I see nothing better, I keep him forever
Like a vendetta-ta"

Sophia swung around, dancing with the song as she swung.

I-I-I see how this is gon' go
Touch me and you'll never be alone
I-Island breeze and lights down low" she paused to remove her hoodie
"No one has to know"

Sophie stood there in sparkle black shorts halter top, she smiled as the chorus started.

"In the middle of the night, in my dreams
You should see the things we do, baby
In the middle of the night, in my dreams
I know I'm gonna be with you
So I take my time"

"Galador, Are you ready for it?"

Sophia winked at the judges, mainly Rachelle as she went into the next verse, singing and dancing again.

"Me, I was a robber first time that he saw me
Stealing hearts and running off and never saying sorry
But if I'm a thief, then he can join the heist
And we'll move to an island-and
And he can be my jailer, Burton to this Sophia
Every lover known in comparison is a failure
I forget their names now, I'm so very tame now
Never be the same now, now"

She paused, hands showcasing her body,

"I-I-I see how this is gon' go
Touch me and you'll never be alone
I-Island breeze and lights down low
No one has to know
(No one has to know)"

With a bright smile, she went back into the chorus as she slowly walked to the end of the stage.

"In the middle of the night, in my dreams
You should see the things we do, baby
In the middle of the night in my dreams
I know I'm gonna be with you
So I take my time"
Are you ready for it?"

She shifted to move toward the judges, playing up to them while singing and dancing,

"Rachelle, are you ready for it?
Baby, let the games begin
Let the games begin
Let the games begin
Rachelle, let the games begin
Let the games begin
Let the games begin"
I-I-I see how this is gon' go
Touch me and you'll never be alone
I-Island breeze and lights down low
No one has to know"

She blew Rachelle a kiss, but then turned back to the crowd her hand in the air, trying to get them to wave with her.

"In the middle of the night, in my dreams
You should see the things we do, baby
In the middle of the night, in my dreams
I know I'm gonna be with you
So I take my time
In the middle of the night
Baby, let the games begin
Let the games begin
Let the games begin
Are you ready for it?"

She slid to the end of the stage, sitting down as her song ended

"Baby, let the games begin
Let the games begin
Let the games begin
Are you ready for it?"

2019-07-19 04:19 am UTC (link)
As she was still very much playing up her image as the southern girl next door, Beth walked out on stage that night in an ivory colored sundress that stopped just below her knees. It looked simple at a distance, but when the camera zoomed in, all the detailed lace-work could be seen. Several bangles glinted on her wrist and a few layered necklaces gave her a pop of color. Blonde hair fell in soft waves around her shoulders, and she paired it all with some light pink cowboy boots.

The guitar strap over her shoulder held the instrument in place as Beth waved to and called greetings to audience members. She still had a bit of charming shyness to her, but it was clear she was coming out of her shell more this week.

“Well y’all sure know how to make a girl feel welcome,” she gushed with pleasure when she got to the mic stand and the applause started to die down. She strummed a chord on the guitar and looked out at the audience. “Anyone here ever been in love?” There was a resounding roar of yells and clapping in response and Beth laughed delightedly. “That is real good to hear. Isn’t it the best feeling?” She paused to allow for another cheer from the crowd and grinned at the reaction. “Yeah, I think so too.” She adjusted her guitar moved into place behind the microphone. “So, tonight I wanted to play a love song for y’all. That sound good to you?”

There was another deafening cheer as the audience really threw themselves into it. Beth cheered along with them for a moment, and just basked in the moment. Then she took a deep breath, gave a nod to the rest of the band to signal them, and began to play.

“I'm only human, I need a god
To show me what we want when we fought.
From morning to dusk, our tears causing rust on all of our weapons.
And he's just a man but deep in his eyes,
I see all this love without the lies.
From now till forever, we'd be so much better without the weapons.
Empty my gun, dull my knife.
Build a house, make a life.
We lie in bed and let the record play,
I hope that he and I will always be this way.”

She swayed behind the microphone as she sang. It was a gentle song, but there was emotion behind it. One look at the expression on Beth’s face and anyone could see the glow of love there. She was singing to someone. But who?

“Oh, I'm only human but I've found a match.
He doesn't hurt, he doesn't scratch.
I'm just some girl, but I've found a soul.
He doesn't push, he doesn't pull.
He's just a man but he's like a savior,
that I don't deserve after my bad behavior.
He says he's wasted with no money left, but all that I see... is perfect.
Empty my gun, dull my knife.
Build a house, make a life.
We lie in bed and let the record play,
I hope that he and I will always be this way.”

The bassist abandoned his spot with the rest of the band and moved over to dance next to Beth while they both played together. As she moved into the final verse of her song, Beth’s voice really hit its stride with power and emotion.

“I am done with the jealousy, done with the fighting.
Done with words that feel just like biting.
I have found a new man with a heart he wants to share.
It just goes to show life isn't always unfair.
I have pumped new blood into this heart for him to take.
We're gonna move to California to a house on a lake.
And someday we will kiss in front of family and friends,
Only cake and champagne and no need...for weapons.
Empty my gun, dull my knife.
Build a house, make a life.
We lie in bed and let the record play,
I hope that he and I will always be this way.
All these clear-headed thoughts were once home to doubt.
Think I finally know what life is about.
And it seems smooth sailing where the waters were rough,
How the world looks different when you find yourself
In love, in love,
In love, in love,
In love.”

As the final notes faded away, there was a moment of silence before the audience began to applaud. Beth’s cheeks were a rosy pink and her eyes shone with love as she took it all in.

PERFORMANCE: PENNY ST CLAIRE (1 of 2)
[info]vivacite
2019-07-19 04:58 am UTC (link)
Penny opted to stick with her theme of wearing all black this week week as well. This week it was a high necked, long sleeved shirt paired with a barely there micro mini skirt. A chunky, silver studded belt hung across her hips and black heeled boots completed the look.

Despite how well they’d gone over last week, she didn’t arrive with any props tonight. Still the crowd jumped to their feet when she entered the stage. She blew kisses to them and waved energetically. When she reached the mic stand, she immediately pulled the microphone free and held it in her hand as she moved across the stage. She was utilizing every inch of that space.

“How’s everybody doing tonight?” Another cheer. Penny grinned, the microphone still hovering near her lips. “Where are all the ladies at?” This time the cheers that sounded were higher, female voices. “We’ve heard a lot of amazing songs here tonight, you guys. But that sound? That amazing sound right there? That is music to my ears. You know, where I come from, women weren’t allowed to speak for themselves.” She paused and the audience members booed. “We couldn’t hold jobs. We couldn’t walk outside without a chaperone. And we damn sure couldn’t perform on an amazing stage like this one for the chance to be a freaking rock star.” The audience stamped their feet and applauded. “Now, men. Don’t get me wrong. I still love all of you.” She looked directly into the camera and winked, “Especially you, Mr Bale. But tonight, I am dedicating this song to all the truly phenomenal, powerful, amazing women out there.”

The band began to play and Penny closed her eyes and swayed to the music.

“You, you love it how I move you.
You love it how I touch you.
My one, when all is said and done,
You'll believe God is a woman.
And I, I feel it after midnight.
A feelin that you can't fight.
My one, it lingers when we're done,
You'll believe God is a woman.”

As the beat kicked in, Penny began to add in a few more dance moves and pushed forward to sing directly to the audience members in the front row.

“I don't wanna waste no time, yuh.
You ain't got a one-track mind, yuh.
Have it any way you like, yuh.
And I can tell that you know I know how I want it.
Ain't nobody else can relate.
Boy, I like that you ain't afraid,
Baby, lay me down and let's pray.
I'm tellin' you the way I like it, how I want it.
And I can be all the things you told me not to be.
(Yuh)
When you try to come for me, I keep on flourishing.
(Yuh)
And he see the universe when I'm the company.
It's all in me.”

PERFORMANCE - JACK DAMON
[info]pearsonmagic
2019-07-19 10:15 pm UTC (link)
Much like his first performance, Jack left all his nerves backstage. He was already buzzing with excitement as he got to sing on the stage for a second week. Actually glad that everyone was there for a second time. It let the viewers see more of what they could do. In front of the judges and audience he spoke again of his mother and how honored he was to be there on the stage.

wearing; jeans, black shirt, black shoes. simple but classic.

Jack didn't hold back as he sang from right in front of the microphone stand. Feeling completely at home center stage.

Everybody loves the things you do
From the way you talk
To the way you move
Everybody here is watching you
'Cause you feel like home
You're like a dream come true
But if by chance you're here alone
Can I have a moment
Before I go?
'Cause I've been by myself all night long
Hoping you're someone I used to know

You look like a movie
You sound like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young

Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song

I was so scared to face my fears
Nobody told me that you'd be here
And I swear you moved overseas
That's what you said, when you left me

You still look like a movie
You still sound like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young

Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song

When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young

It's hard to admit that
Everything just takes me back
To when you were there
To when you were there
And a part of me keeps holding on
Just in case it hasn't gone
I guess I still care
Do you still care?

It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
My God, this reminds me
Of when we were young

When we were young
When we were young
When we were young
When we were young

Let me photograph you in this light
In case it is the last time
That we might be exactly like we were
Before we realized
We were sad of getting old
It made us restless
Oh, I'm so mad I'm getting old
It makes me reckless
It was just like a movie
It was just like a song
When we were young

Jolene found that she loved the energy she got from the audience when she was on stage. So all the nerves from the first time were now a quiet whisper. She walked on stage like she owned the place. Head held high and a bit of attitude in each step. Still with that bright smile and giggle when she spoke.

wearing; leather jeans, ripped up red t-shirt, red heels

She wasn't shy about using her space as she sang. Rocking to the edge of the stage and reaching out towards the audience.

So this ain't the end, I saw you again today
I had to turn my heart away
Smile like the sun, kisses for everyone
And tales, it never fails!

You lying so low into the weeds
I bet you gonna ambush me
You'd have me down, down, down, down on my knees
Now won't you, Barracuda?

Back over time, we were all trying for free
You met the porpoise and me
No right, no wrong, you're selling a song, a name
Whisper game

And if the real thing don't do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn to the wick
Ooh, Barracuda

"Sell me sell you" the porpoise said
Dive down deep to save my head
I think that you got the blues, too

All that night and all the next
Swam without looking back
Made for the western pools, silly, silly fools!

If the real thing don't do the trick, no
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn, burn, burn, burn, burn it to the wick

Adilyn still couldn't believe what the judges said about her first weeks performance. This made her nerves sky rocket. She wasn't sure how she would ever compare to last week. Still she walked on stage with a smile, trying to hide her nervousness as she spoke with the judges and audience. Even gave a shout out to Sookie who was like a sister to her.

wearing; black, floral romper with knee high boots

The last time she sang on this stage it was only standing in one place. The movement was a little stiff at first but started to ease before she got to the chorus.

She was a fast machine
She kept her motor clean
She was the best damn woman I had ever seen
She had the sightless eyes
Telling me no lies
Knockin' me out with those American thighs
Taking more than her share
Had me fighting for air
She told me to come but I was already there
'Cause the walls start shaking
The earth was quaking
My mind was aching
And we were making it and you

Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me all night long

Working double time
On the seduction line
She was one of a kind, she's just mine all mine
Wanted no applause
Just another course
Made a meal out of me and came back for more
Had to cool me down
To take another round
Now I'm back in the ring to take another swing
'Cause the walls were shaking
The earth was quaking
My mind was aching
And we were making it and you

Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me all night long

And knocked me out and then you
Shook me all night long
You had me shakin' and you
Shook me all night long
Yeah you shook me
Well you took me

You really took me and you
Shook me all night long
Oh you
Shook me all night long
Yeah, yeah, you
Shook me all night long
You really took me and you
Yeah you shook me, yeah you shook me
All night long

Ben didn't go into the competition seriously. He didn't think he'd make it to the first week on the stage and now he was on the second week. As was everyone else. He saw this as a opportunity to put himself out there. It was more spotlight than he liked getting. Still he liked the feeling of performing. He had prepared a song that he was sure would get some attention. It was something he could really throw himself into.

wearing; dark brown boots, jeans, light grey t-shirt, black jacket

He wasn't the dancing type but there on stage he could see sell a song. He gripped on the his shirt as he belted out the words in a growled tone. Then standing completely still as he rolled into the last verse and finished the song.

Say your prayers little one
Don't forget my son
To include everyone

I tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
'Til the sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of Snow White

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragon's fire
And of things that will bite, yeah

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Now I lay me down to sleep
Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
Pray the lord my soul to keep

If I die before I wake
If I die before I wake
Pray the lord my soul to take
Pray the lord my soul to take

Hush little baby don't say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
It's just the beasts under your bed
In your closet in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land

Boo! Yeah yeah!

We're off to never-never land
Take my hand
We're off to never-never land
Take my hand

We're off to never-never land
We're off to never-never land
We're off to never-never land
