Bonding
Who: Mere and Brian
Where: Backstage
When: Tuesday, Post 1st performance here
After the performances were done, Mere decided to go and hunt down Brian. His performance had really moved her, to tears even, and she really wanted to talk to him. She could tell that he wasn't a performer by nature, but she wanted him to at least make it through the first round so tat she could see what he could really do. She ended up at his dressing room, knocking on the door. She hoped that he hadn't already left for the night.
"Hello?" Brian called out, a little startled. He hadn't been expecting anyone, to be honest, and was just relaxing with a tall glass of water before heading out. He'd already changed into a pair of jeans and a polo shirt, and was essentially just... winding down.
Mere opened the door and peeked her head inside. "Hi. Is it OK if I come in for a moment? I Just wanted to talk to you." This thankfully wasn't against the rules or anything, but she wouldn't come in if he felt uncomfortable, either.
"Oh! Meredith. Hey. Sure, come on in." He said, waving her in. He'd never really known her THAT well, mostly as friends of friends, but she'd always been friendly whenever they'd met. "What's going on?"
"Not much. Just wanted to chat with you," she told him, shutting the door behind her after walking in. "Your voice was really great out there tonight. I had no idea that you could sing like that."
"Thanks, really. That's... yeah. Wow. Um, I just don't do it in front of people often. It's just something I do as kind of a personal therapy, I guess." He was blushing, too... the poor sweet creature.
"A lot of musicians use music for that," "Mere told him. She leaned back against the door, crossing her arms over her chest. "Not everybody can make people feel what they're going through like you did tonight, though. That's a gift."
"I guess... I just hoped that maybe, the people I can't stop thinking about in one way or the other could hear it. And know how each of them made me feel." He said, unsure of why he was suddenly opening up like this. "I mean one of them is literally here on this planet, but... the other one? I dunno. Maybe there's some version of her out there somewhere watching this."
"Well, if the person that's here saw it and has any brains in her skull? I'm sure that she knows," Mere told him. She couldn't imagine her not knowing at this point. "Hell, I barely know you and I cried hearing that.
"Thanks. I really mean that." He laughed, shaking his head. "It's such a... weird feeling. I'm in love with someone here. She's amazing, and gorgeous, and just everything I ever wanted in a girlfriend. But I can't get the ex who shattered me or the big unrequited love out of my head."
"Trust me. Been there, done that, got the gas station t-shirt," Mere told him. "The guy who followed you up, Ash Kowalski? I was hung up on him for years, even when I did love other people. First loves will fuck you up hard sometimes. It happens to the best of us." If anyone could understand what Brian was feeling still, it was probably Mere. "We dated when I was sixteen and it took me about...six years to be totally OK with knowing we'd never work out?" She'd probably only really let that go in the last couple of years, and, as seen tonight, she could still get a tad nostalgic for Ash. "Hope to any god listening you don't take as long as I did to pull past those ladies, but if you do take that long? Even longer? There's nothing wrong with it. It doesn't mean that you're broken. It's just a part of who you are." And holy fuck she didn't mean to open up like that to him, either, but it was something she definitely understood. Maybe that was why him singing made her cry.
"If it helps... Jesus, I think even I had a crush on Ash tonight." Brian joked, trying to lighten the mood. "I mean... at least I know I'm not alone on the first one. I've heard people call my ex 'Baily The Destroyer', because of how many hearts she's broken." He sighed then, looking up at her. "But Gertie... I can't even explain it. She's a lot younger than me, never showed even the slightest interest in me as anything but a friend... and yet I loved her almost from the moment we met. And I don't WANT to keep thinking about her. Yet somehow... it just keeps happening."
Mere snorted. "Everyone thought I was crazy. I like my men magical and intense, what can I say?" she asked with a shrug. Immediately zoning in on a similar type here just showed Mere that she had a type, apparently. She hadn't crushed on someone as hard as she was on Loki in ages. She literally had to remind herself to remember to speak any time they talked. Anyway... "Baily can be a cool chick, but fuck I feel sorry for anyone she dates. Girl has no idea what she wants." At least Mere freely admitted she was a hot mess for years, right? That had to count for something. "You can't control the heart, my dude. If she showed up here, what would happen, do you think?"
"God, I don't even know. I mean... I'm in love with Tina. And Gertie... I couldn't just leave someone I love that much because someone who's never shown an ounce of attraction to me shows up, you know?" He said, the question obviously shaking him a little.
"Well, this place seems to have a fondness for our world, so, it's entirely likely that she might show up. So, if she does? Keep that in mind. This is a place for new beginnings. They might pan out, they might not, but at least we have a shot at them." Mere was fully taking her own advice to heart, so why not share it with others?
"Thanks, Meredith. I... wish we'd have gotten to know each other back home." He said, surprised at how much he legitimately liked her.
She shrugged. "Remember, new beginnings. That doesn't just go for romantic stuff. Friendships can be part of that, too." She didn't expect to come back here and freaking bond with Brian, but she sure wasn't mad about it. Girl could use some more friends, especially ones that she had never slept with.
"Hey... I'd be honored to be your friend." He told her, getting up to give her a big hug. "Whoever you're with right now... you guys ought to come out with me and Tina some night. I guarantee you and her in the same place could only end in laughter and fire."
She smiled and hugged him back. "It's still in its very early stages, but once it gets to that point, you're definitely on for a double date." Also, anywhere with Loki might end up with literal fire.
"And anytime you want to chat or just grab some coffee or something, hit me up, ok? I mean it." He said, genuinely taking an immediate shine to her, especially after realizing how alike they were.
"I'll make sure to," she said. She hadn't expected her trip backstage to turn into this, but she was glad that it did.
