Steve wasn’t at the picnic or parade or memorial service yesterday. I know things had gotten hard for him with his husband gone, but since he’d never miss something like that, I’m gonna take a guess he got sent back home?

I need to make new friends. I’m Wyatt, was in the army, then ended up in the resistance for a darned long time. Almost finished Harvard before the war, I like books and music, it was the late sixties where I’m from and we were fighting the nazi occupation . Uh I do a lot of outreach for military and vet affairs, and a lot of LSD, and I could sure use some new friendly people to talk to?

I have tried, listeners, to figure out what this 'celebration' is for, and why it exists and wow. Just wow.

This strange world sure has a lot of holidays.

Like, I thought Barista day was bad. And Don't even get me started on History week. Who needs all those Pterodactyl and worm holes right?

But this fourth of july,according to various sources is just. Loud.

Like,really. Loud. That's it? The council is loud. The dog park is loud. Also,people actually go to the dog park. That's..that's just weird.

The 4th of July picnic is on! I've got a shelter at a park, and a fireworks permit as well as a specific time and area that's gonna be posted for people those aren't okay for, I've got people signed up who're bringing the food basics, found the equipment for baseball, and a diamond, and it's all looking like it SHOULD go off without a hitch.

We're aiming to get started at noon on the 4th. I'm gonna ask you to bring SOMETHING that a group of people can share, like chips or cupcakes or...whatever else, but there should be hotdogs and burgers and the weird non meat hotdogs people here like too.

If we're lucky, we can get the television to project the pops concert or movies onto the big screen we're picking up at the rental place, there's a shelter if it rains and it's not really a high pressure thing, but it SHOULD be pretty darn great if I say so myself.

Uh if you think you might come, let me know so I can do a final food shop the night before, would you?

Next month's July, isn't it? It's gonna be the first 4th I've been in an America that's free since I was just a kid. I know, I know, none of you know me from Adam, but...I want to do something about it.

If I was going to host a barbeque picnic sort of old fashioned thing, maybe with one of those make your own sundae tables and hotdogs (NOT wurst, but honest to GOSH "American" hotdogs) and potato salad and baseball and fireworks, would any of you come?

It'd mean a lot to this soldier, even though we're strangers.

Free Comic Book day was weak this year.

Also, Avengers, I'm really bummed out. That movie hurt my soul. Line up for hugs please.

This world, this place, being free, in general...it has a way of getting a hold of you until you don't want to let it go. It's a better world than the one I left behind, but...feels wrong to enjoy it. knowing all the suffering still happening at home, that my people are without a leader, and that I'm just...frittering away my time when I just spearheaded a revolution as its face.

Pretty hard to be the posterboy for something you're not gonna be there for. I'm GRATEFUL I got brought here, but I know I can't let myself enjoy it. Its wrong when you prolong someone's suffering, or don't do anything to stop it, especially when it's in your power. Not that I know HOW to get back to either my world OR to 1961, but it feels like I've gotta find some way to TRY, you know?

In the meantime, it's a nice vacation, but I can't let myself be the guy who sits back and lets all this reprehensible EVIL happen, even if I don't know what to do about it.

...Anybody got any ideas for me, either to help from here, or reconcile it or...something?

Well if THIS isn't the worst gosh darned TIMING of the century. I've got nazis to be bashing and a resistance to step up for, not whatever the heck any of THIS place is. I mean, geez, I'm sure you're all nice people and all, and I've definitely been through WORSE, but...
