I kent by now what it was like for Aedan, this time of year. I knew him long enough before we married to know he has a hard time this time of year, but this one...it's gotten worse than the last few for some reason. I'm not upset to be helping him or anything and I don't regret being here for him but... I AM sad for him if that makes any sense.

He wants to have the party we did last year, so we're doing that up at the house on Saturday, and I'm hoping the distraction helps, but, being honest, we've discussed him going inpatient if he's got to. Here's hoping it won't come to that, aye?

He's shoplifted again, my idiot husband. A sgian dubh from one of the museum gift shops, a kilt pin from a place up near Loch Lomond... And stole an antique hand mirror from the hotel room that he had to sneak back in to return. To be fair, he snuck back and put back all of the ill gotten gains, but...still.

With Aedan, stealing's a sign he's anxious about something. I should be encouraging him to call the therapist, no?

The rest of our trip, of our life so far's been AMAZING though. My wedding present to him should arrive later this week-end and for me he's built a mews on our property and gotten me a Peregrine Falcon and for himself a Kestrel Hawk that I'm officially the owner of, due to the rules about owning them and training (Smoke is an exception since he was injured at the time). Just like that…I was a bride, and then a wife, with a tiara “borrowed” from Princess Anne’s collection and dropped off by “the queen” (there’s only one of you I own who can shift like THAT and I don’t ken how you got away with it, but thank you!)That tiara belonged to the late Duke of Edinburgh’s mother, a queen who had to leave her people, and he was a prince who had to leave his home and start again and the life of service he gave to his new country… Controversial though he was, and not without actions that seemed questionable at times, Prince Phillip was what I’d like to be here, so the connection to that…it means a LOT.

Just like that, I looked into my best friend’s eyes and we knew we were doing this for more than the wrong reasons that started this, then we rode off, and I changed into his, MY plaid, and we were off for dancing and celebration at our favourite place in the world.

Then we had the dancing… I would apologise but… You Were Warned by our caller when the ceilidh dancing started, and once you saw the injuries starting…


Uncle Alec gets out of the hospital later today, and he’s going to be just fine in about six weeks, Morgan’s just got to stay off her ankle, and I’m not too sure about the rest. I know Captain Royama’s got that super healing American DNA shite, so he’s probably recovered now, and Dr. Stephen could have charged for all the wrapping of limbs he did.

In other words, it was a fun, very Scottish and Starkhaven wedding. Assassins do ken how to party!

Then, just like that, it was the two of us, alone, together, for the start of our forever…

I think we’re going to rock this.

I still miss Satinalia and the other holidays, and Christmas makes no sense to me at all, but I'm trying harder, this year, to shut up and put up and just pretend home doesn't matter and never mattered, but it's still difficult. It's not as though Aedan hasn't tried, of course, because he's been wonderful, but I think sometimes we just...lose all that matters when we move somewhere new and...

We're having a First Day/"Hogmanay" party at our new home, on the Isle of Skye on the last night of the year. Aedan's said something about it too, but I'm excited to be going along with it. I've gotten a new dress, in the Starkhaven heir plaid, to match his, and we're going to do my hair all lovely and adult and practise for our wedding this spring, which is suddenly coming on me faster than ever.

No that those of our parents who notice these things are pleased, but seeing as mine doesn't care one way or other...

It's as if this year's a little better than the last one. Hoping that the trend keeps up.

...Can someone take a chance at explaining Christmas again, then, please? For those not religious anyway.

Maybe someday it'll stick but it confuses me why those who don't believe in a god would celebrate his birthday, or how the big man with the beard is not the god in question, or the little elves and family bullshite, when no real family cares that much about anyone, save, possibly, for Ser Noah who does give a shite about the people he got stuck with when he married into this trashfire of a family

He took me dancing. Aedan took me dancing, the absolute NUGGET.

It felt like home again, but he was there, and I was dressed like I belonged to a real family, like I was a VAEL again, in a skirt that fit me properly and wasnae too short or too big for my height and didnae fall off me on any of the spins.

And then, like the Roaster he is, he stopped to gape at something in the middle of Stripping The Willow, got himself tripped into by the next bloke and sprained his ankle but came back to dance with me again a few goes later. He limped up the drive after we transported home and Uncle Cal kept giving him these looks all night after the fall, but he wanted to stop as little as I wanted to, I think...

He is daft. Completely bloody daft, this man I'll someday marry when I'm through school and the age difference is hardly as 'bad' as it seems right now.

I think I'll keep him if that's all the same to any one of YOU. And hope he'll be all right come morning.

I'm actually starting to enjoy it here. Never really had so many of my own kind to chat up before! And I've narrowed down my medical to 3 schools, but suppose I should find a job first. You know, to save up and all.

Also went to my flat-mates birthday orgy party, which was fun, I guess. I got called a slut which felt even more amazing

It would have been Summerday at home, again, a few weeks back now. Hard to believe I’ve been away so long and that I’d be seventeen sometime in the last month if birthdays were an exact thing people marked here. It’s mad how quickly we lose home and lose most things that matter, and how we build up a series of defences to keep ourselves from thinking over everything and everyone we’ll never see or do again.

I’ve got a bit of home here with Aedan, and I’m grateful and determined we’ll be married, even if, for those obvious reasons of his career and school for me, that it cannae be now. That and Smoke, do make me happy, but I miss so much I’ve lost that no one else remembers but myself. I hate that there is no Andraste and no way of being near to her, that no one remembers people who, admittedly, have died, and treat them as disposable at best when they mattered to me, and SHOULD have mattered to the rest of the family, but...

Perhaps it’s me that is the problem, mourning for people dead since I was five years old and knowing I’ve no way of seeing them again or any chance of speaking to someone who knew them.]

I’ve been lucky but... it’s as if I’ve been taken in by strangers from a universe that’s not the same and the two shall never meet somehow.

I'm going for quietly resigned and depressed since that's the me my father knows so well. Hopefully this gets him to demand a wedding. I COULD fake something else but...seems that's a LITTLE far...

He officially asked this morning. They said to wait until I’ve go finished school because university and medical school, not to mention finishing high school “changes people”, but I AM able to keep the GORGEOUS ring he gave me as it was “more a promise he will be there” and I‘ll “always have him in whatever capacity works at the time”, and as I’ve been the one who understands him most. It’s breathtaking, all fine stones going in rows around a gold band. He says it’s time I had something pretty.

AND someone’s managed to convince Prince Sebastian to see what he could do with the powers that be who govern who get and keep titles here. They’re sorting it at Hogmanay, with a barrister who kens the new inter dimensional legal systems in place here, with a new promise for the new year.

I’m going to be worth something again, and like the rest of them! No more half trained and unwanted gorblin wench with no way of proving herself now standards have changed for training(understandable, but hard to live with being useless and being of no worth at the same time) but as good as everyone else in this house now.

And goats. We’ve got two lovely goat kids to look after, too.

I’ll not pretend I understand this day, but I can be grateful for it all the same, eh? Happy Christmas then!

Is it possible to marry before you're finished high school and when you intend to become a doctor?

The benefits are WELL worth it, even if my da and my unc...his da are going to take some convincing. I asked him to give me time to decide, but it does look good from the outset if it's possible to manage.

Does Oxfam get much in the way of interesting baby clothes? Or your shop, Mr. Stark? Or...anyone else?

School's given me a 'baby' to raise this week and no temporary computerised wean of MINE is going about dressed in the cheap pyjamas that he came with. As they've not said we have to be practical since "Harry" can't exactly mess himself the way the real sort does, I intend to raise the laddie as an individual. He's got a glittery dragon costume at the moment, but I'm hoping there's a wee kilt to be found, or leather studded jacket or a hoodie or some such.

...He's easier than the real sort, but he's sort of precious all the same...

What sort of not too expensive gift is appropriate for my great-uncle? I haven't got time to make something nice since it's Satinalia in a few days and when the two of us said we would do this, I'd forgotten it involves gift exchanges for nobility. Since he's been kind to me, and it's his first one away from home and I've missed it so much myself, it only seems right to do SOMETHING.

I'm on the homecoming court! This does mean I'll be going to the dance as well, and in the parade before the game, and...I needed something to wear for it. Da spent most of Saturday blanching at what was on offer in the shops but I did find

What’s the Halloween about? Is this like the Samhuinn Festival my uncle organised for “Celtic new year” that the prince appeared in last fall, but the rest of us didn’t go to? Some of my classmates mentioned taking their siblings out to get sweets from strangers, or to trick them? The costume dance makes some sense even though there’s the big homecoming one two weeks before it, sort of like All Souls’ Day, but months late, or Satinalia without the presents and feasting and chantry service.

I did, like a fool, start a Satinalia costume when school started, before Ser Noah said we might do something for it, so, even when that does fall through, I’ll have something for Halloween if I get invited to go to the dance. Aedan says it won’t matter that I’m dressed as Andraste because there’s a warrior saint in this universe. There’s even a statue of this Ser Jeanne d’Arc in Prince Sebastian’s family chapel that they use to represent Andraste when they pray. From what I’ve seen of the outside of the room, it IS lovely.

We were talking about this at school, in the weekly lunch meeting for newbies, who are here from vastly different situations to this one, like different times, planets, lands and even bloody Atlantis (They’re twins, on the swim team and nice, in a sort of superior to you and trying NOT to display the fact but everyone sort of knows it way), so, since our counselor, who, in all likelihood, did NOT anticipate dealing with our weird...everything...when they took their first job out of university had us talking this over yesterday, and I am curious about others who may want to share...
