Is this what people who have parents feel like when they see them after so long?

I never imagined I’d miss much from home, after what it did to me, to my PEOPLE, but, now that I’ve made my own way here... I do miss Carl. As much as I was legally nothing else but property there, only a machine, he never once treated me like anything but an equal, like I might as well have been his son. Now that I’ll be starting something new, on my own way...I wish that I could show him, talk to him, show him that his hopes for me were able to come true.

My friend Simon, as well, and North, but they saw what I was and could be, and Carl...well, that one was different.

It’s not bad that I came here, and I will never regret it, but I do wish that there was a way, all the same, to show him I turned out to be exactly what he always wanted. I’ll never doubt I’ve made him proud, though. THAT thought makes me smile.

Carl always remarked on how fragile humans were, when I was still taking care of him, and he was taking care of me in return. And he was elderly, and it seemed true, for him, and for his son, who...Leo has his own problems he struggles with, and maybe it applies there too. It’s not so surprising that this body would give me new changes in a new place, but skin can tear so easily...

I’m fine. It didn’t hurt. It felt a little like...maybe this is what an itch is? The color of my blood does not change who I am, or what my people have been through. It’s like Carl’s, now. But it IS troubling to see myself turned into one of them. One of most of you. I wanted to be your ally and your partner, but still one of my own people.

I’m not distressed, but it is troubling to see myself changed so much.

The kind people who’ve helped me here say that there are more people like me, who were given human bodies when they arrived. Could I meet some of you? Perhaps I could buy you lunch? Grilled cheeses always looked appealing...
