So. I've been doing some reading up on customs and things around these parts, and apparently it's pretty standard to actively celebrate a new baby by doing something called a 'baby shower'. Since I wasn't exactly around for the last little one, I'm really looking to kind of make up for that big time with my sister.

So if anyone has any suggestions or advice, I would be absolutely open to them. I want to keep it a surprise, of course. I can only imagine how things will go if it isn't. But really. Open to anything anyone has to say on the matter.

I've been having a really hard time keeping up with Tal'dorei holidays while I've been here, but I'm pretty sure the Night of Ascension is in a couple of weeks. If people are up for honoring those that we've had to leave behind. Also, there's apparently some sort of latter day Harvest Fest that they have here which seems... interesting. Mostly just an excuse to eat, but hey, it's not we've ever passed up one of those before.

So. Yes? Maybe?

I'm taking suggestions for next month's LGBT movie night if anyone has anything in mind?

Eliot might be gone, but we're still going to have the Halloween party tonight. Physical Kid's Cottage. Costumes. Booze. Drugs, probably. Etc. Be there, come have fun, let's forget how much this place sucks when it takes away people we love.

Will anyone else here be celebrating the lives of their ancestors and their other honored dead on the night of the 31st? Candles in the window, libations on the doorstep, any of that sort of thing? I do not know if they will hear us, so far from home, but I mean to carry out the rites anyway, as best as I am able. Except that feasting alone sounds like a rather dreary prospect. Might anyone who follows a similar tradition want to come together for it?

I am looking for suggestions.

Where I grew up, I wasn't allowed to have anything much in the way of personal possessions, and after that, anything extra I earned or found in had to go towards the war effort. I am not saying that I was deprived or impoverished. I wasn't. It's just a new experience to have coin to spare, and no restrictions or demands on what to do with it.

What do you think I should try? As frivolous as you like, although I'll tell you that I'm not unfamiliar with the market, so don't bother suggesting your own goods at exorbitant prices.

I think I prefer being here to being in my America. That doesn't mean that i don't still have far too many questions about how this place works, but I'm beginning to think that I wouldn't mind it so much if that became a long-term research project.

In organizing the manor's library, I have found a frankly impressive - and mildly concerning - amount of erotica. Honestly, we hardly have need of this many books about handsome sea captains and naïve maidens or whatever other trite nonsense, so if anyone would like to take some off our hands, it would be greatly appreciated.

Some days I'm left to wonder if someone can actually read so much that it all gets jumbled together and become somewhat useless when you're trying to actually recall it.

In other, only slightly related news, I've also been wondering if I've been spending way too much time trying to catch up from where my studies last left off and should actually take a break.

So. Anyone up for a bonfire night now that it's starting to get dark a lot earlier? It's honestly probably the best time to do one, where it's not too hot but not too cold, and there's a lot more night to put to good use.

I'm sure there's some reason we could think of to celebrate.

'Ships' are people who aren't happy with how a story goes. Like the girls who still get all cut up about Laurie marrying Amy and not Jo, even though the author died decades ago and there's no changing it. Sometimes they pretend their version is the real one and troll you if you disagree.

I understand that this message will be sent to a multitude, faster than the swiftest courier. I cannot say that I understand how, but perhaps there is one out there who will aid a lady in need. I am Sera dy Ajelo, cousin to the provincar of Baocia. I was out on pilgrimage, and I believe that I fell from my horse and hurt my head. When I awoke, I was here. The attendants here have seen to my horse and to my comforts with hospitality worthy of any temple, but so much of what I find here is sorely unfamiliar.

Would some kind woman meet with me in my rooms and assist me with a few practicalities? I am a quick learner.

Someone sent me my school trunk. I never thought I would be so delighted to see it. Ordinarily I'd find it slightly objectionable to wear my uniform robes away from school; they're rather plain. Plain robes, however, are very much preferable to most of what is on offer here, and I've yet to find a decent tailor. There were the usual books and supplies, which may please my tutors, and a few other items from home, which I daresay I shall treasure here more than I did at school.

There is also a cake. My Aunt Alexia usually sends me a cake to share with the fellows in my dormitory, except that I am not in a dormitory here, and it is rather a large cake. If you are nearby and you would like a slice, do stop by room 211. I don't want it to go to waste.

P.S. None of it is cursed. I made sure of that. I do not know how my family managed to send it all here, but I am very pleased they did.

Do not go to the creepy occult bookstore for inspiration, don't buy a dusty old book written primarily in Latin, and definitely do not draw any of the symbols if you ignore my advice and do the first two. Especially don't draw any of the symbols in blood -- human or otherwise.
