Having spoken with Peter, it has come to my attention that I have neglected to clarify certain pertinent details with you with regard to our social interaction last week. It is my intention to remedy that error and avoid future confusion. I have the utmost respect for you as a sensible and practical woman and I do not wish to unnecessarily complicate things by not properly communicating with you.
I enjoyed our outing. Your company was pleasant and a welcome break from the less tolerable social interactions to which I have recent been subjected. However, in spite of the fact that I did offer to pay - owing to the fact that I did ask you to take time out of your day to accompany me, it was not a romantic overture. If it had been, I would have been sure to tell you so that you would be aware of all the facts of the situation.
Which brings me to the larger point of my email. Pete has made it clear that I should do a better job of expressing these things, as I have not properly informed you of my feelings on this matter. I do think very highly of you and I am quite fond of you. More than I likely let on. You are, as I said before, far more sensible than most people I know and eminently practical. You are also intelligent, amusing and physically distracting. As such, I would like to engage in further outings with the understanding that such instances would not be platonic in nature. So long as you are agreeable, of course.
Should you not have any interest in such an alteration to our relationship, I will of course respect this and nothing has to change between us.
