Welcome to Night Vale

We're just about to when everyone starts decorating for Halloween, so a public service announcement:

Do not go to the creepy occult bookstore for inspiration, don't buy a dusty old book written primarily in Latin, and definitely do not draw any of the symbols if you ignore my advice and do the first two. Especially don't draw any of the symbols in blood -- human or otherwise.

The view from up here is quite splendid today! This is the kind of magical mischief I don't mind.

I am really writing with a serious request, however. This should have been my last year at school, and while I do think that finishing my education properly is the right thing to do, there is no appropriate establishment here in which I might do so. I would instead like to engage one or more private tutors, in the following subjects:

Magical Theory
Latin
Arithmancy
Astronomy

Potions
Charms
Transfiguration
Magical Duelling

For each subject you took up, we would meet for an hour or two once a week, and you would if you wished set me preparatory work to complete between those meetings.

My stipulations are that you do not have a dislike of young people, and that you will not ask or expect me to use any muggle machines or inventions as a part of my studies. I shall promise to be a responsible and diligent senior student and not to indulge in magical pranks or anything of that sort. And of course you would be suitably recompensed for your time and effort.

Do write if you are interested.

For the first time, I think I got lucky. The things that I saw were things I used to see all the time in my dreams. It was terrifying but I'm used to that. At least they went away when I went to sleep for a change.

Someone should throw a We Survived Another Bout of Shenanigans party. We deserve pizza.

You know, it dawned on me today that the end of next month will mark my year of being here in Night Vale. Time really did fly by! It's weird, but not in a bad way. This place is constantly being weird, but I have to admit that this place really has started to feel like home for me.

What are some things you love most about this place?

I know it's cliche, but for me, it's the people I've met here that I otherwise wouldn't have back home.

You know after a while of saying Amato Animo Animato Animagus day in and day out, I feel like it would make a very good song. There's a beat or I am slowly going insane, which is also a possibility. I'm going to keep at it, from everything we've researched, the longer amount of time I repeat this the better. It's definitely a tongue twister, so I think the longer I take, hopefully, the less likely I'll mess up when it really counts.

So, the woman who brought up getting together a roller derby team has begged off trying to do it. I honestly could use an outlet I volunteered to take up the cause and set one up. I'm not sure if there are teams in nearby towns we could play against but if we got enough people we could do some playing.

I just need to know who is interested and some ideas for names.

And in the name of curiosity, what is the worst injury you've ever gotten or given yourself? I've been shot a few times and then there was the falling to my death.

Hello. My name is Draco Malfoy. I'm a registered healer with several years experience working in a hospital setting. I've no idea whether you need more support, but I'm available should you need my healing and potionmaking skills. I prefer keeping busy whenever possible.

So I know everyone's got their things and there's fight club and bake offs and what have you but here's a new thing. Anyone interested in a non-competitive, beer all night bowling league? I never thought bowling would be my thing but I spend so much time at the bowling alley that now I'm like, sure, why not? Maybe I'll charm the pins and balls to glow in the dark or sparkle or something.

So is this the kind of life we live now, some of us get magically handcuffed to another person and we just mark it down as another Tuesday?

Not that I'm complaining! I had fun at least, but it's still mental that most of us learned to shrug these things off.

I was thinking about the potion we have to brew during a lightning storm, how often does that happen around here? I know nothing about this climate. I wonder if any of the other magic folk here has a way of creating storms and would that even work? Hermione, do you think the magic of the potion would be able to tell the difference if it was a natural storm or not?

Wonderful. People are getting my actual childhood dream and I've got a fire baby demon who's inadvertently (oooor not) set small fires around my apartment five times already. I convinced him to stay inside the fake fireplace but it did not like it.

Says that won't do for long. I'm afraid if I cast too much aguamenti I'll kill it though!

I didn't even realize the date had passed. Birthday officially in two weeks and five days, just in case anyone wanted to keep track!
