When the envelope is opened, a burst of magic fireworks and all-too-real glitter explodes from within. The illustrated flames on the invitation itself are charmed to flicker with light, hissing and popping like a real campfire.

Serena wasn't exactly proud of the fact that she'd needed to get drunk in order to properly ask Terry out on a date, but he'd said yes so really, there was no harm done. It'd taken some time to schedule, since journalism didn't exactly give one much free time, and her schedule conflicted with most normal people's anyway.

However! That was just more things that didn't actually matter, since now she had an opportunity to see if what had happened between them was just a one-off or if there could actually be something there. And the fact that she was even open to considering that there could be was a big step, she knew.

She arrived at Fromage a few minutes after they'd agreed to meet, caught up in worrying whether her dress was right or not, and smiled at him. Her drunken owl had also done the job of breaking the ice, too -- at least, from her side. "It's good to see you again."

The owl brings with it this unsigned note, though Serena made no attempt to disguise her handwriting.

Even though what they said is true I don't know how to speak to you

Serena,

I just looked at a calender and realized tomorrow is her birthday. I haven't remembered it in years, but I guess seeing Marietta brought it back this year's different. Are you doing anything after your show ends tomorrow? We could go out. Or stay in. Or anything.

--

Serena wasn't sure how there could possibly be delays at a clinic that served such a small village like Hogsmeade, but there was nothing to be done for it. After speaking to the receptionist and receiving the new estimated time of her appointment, she took a seat in the waiting room and rifled through her bag for some paperwork she was meant to review before she arrived at work.

After a few minutes had elapsed, she realised that the door to the clinic had opened and that she was no longer alone. Somehow, she'd managed to not see Marietta despite the other witch's relocation to Hogsmeade and the run-ins that Cho'd had with her. While this had previously given her some sense of triumph, now all that Serena could think about was the last time they'd seen each other: her trial in the Ministry of Magic.

Panicking slightly, she stood up with the intent to reschedule her appointment for another day so she could leave. The move solely seemed to bring attention to her presence, though, and she sat back down, stunned, as they made eye contact. But instead of saying anything to indicate that she recognised her (but how could she not recognise her?) Serena pulled her paperwork out again and ducked her head, hoping this wouldn't be too excruciating.

Terry wasn't late-- he usually wasn't, but he made sure not to be, for this dinner with Serena. It wasn't quite a job interview, but Terry was determined to do what was needed so that the agency could get some coverage on the air, whether it meant having Terry on as a guest or referencing his research on the show. He'd even brought along with him the work that he'd done, even though he wasn't certain that it would come up. From what Serena had told him, she just wanted to talk. Terry thought this ran closer to the pitching part of the process, and he was ready to do that too.

He settled in a quiet booth by the back, ordering only fizzy pumpkin juice-- it wouldn't be good to be drinking, probably-- and waited.

A discarded owl to Terry Boot:

Terry,

Would you like to get dinner and listen to a Quidditch match together some time?

- Serena

--

An interoffice memo to Ritchie Coote:

Two things:

1) Are you okay?

2) If you've time this afternoon, I'd like you to owl Terry Boot and ask him to provide a quick analysis of some of the upcoming Quidditch matches for one of the broadcasts later this week. I hear he's got a keen eye for that stuff. We'll pay him for his time, if he wants. If he's free, have him meet with me during my dinner break on any of the rest of the days these week to discuss.

Appreciate it,

Serena

What: WWN Interview
When: Last night?

Lucian hadn't been in Hogsmeade more than a day and already his publicist was calling him about an interview with the WWN.

"They're based in Hogsmeade, you know," she said in clipped tones, and the first thing Lucian thought of was that meant Pucey would be in town too; he could hit him up for a pint sometime. "Can you manage to find the station or will I be needing to owl over step by step instructions."

So after telling her to piss off, Lucian jotted down the date and time on a piece of paper and chucked it in the fire, figuring she'd owl him again the day of the interview. She actually showed up at his flat, making him take a shower and pull his hair back ("It's cleanshaven but rugged-- clean-rugged, you should just go with it") and then walking him to his appointment, like he was some kind of child.

With one final hiss of "Play nice,", she steered him toward a small room, where a pretty dark-haired witch was seated.

"I'm here for an interview?" Lucian said.

Despite its new status within the city of London, Grace was a hard-sought seating. Its chef and creator was a vivacious young woman with a son Violet's age, and Merrill knew her through the arts classes both their little ones took. The chef's table that evening was her wedding gift to Merrill and Roger, and it was as handsome as the small plates that followed.

It wasn't billed as a birthday party because Dan really hated calling attention to the fact, but it was what people knew it to be anyway. He had set up tons of food in a corner (not just finger food either, real food, to help people keep drinking for good times), and drinks in the other. The master bedroom was warded from intruders although the guest bedroom was not- at this point, Dan figured he'd just do his mates a solid- and there was music playing from an unseen source.

WHEN | Friday, January 3 from 10:00 p.m. on.
WHERE | Asher's and Julian's flat.
WHAT | The Ravenclaws host a party.
RATING | TBD. Potentially high for shenanigans?
STATUS | Ongoing.

It was a fuckin' embarrassment, if you asked Asher, that Ravenclaw House was the last to host a party. With the likes of himself and Roger, it was obvious they could do it best.

Obvious to whom, however? Though neither man was cognizant of the fact, they'd both purchased liquor-- beer and spirits, no fuckin' frou-frou wines. There was no food of any sort in sight, not even a crisp. They'd both noticed the similar absence of cups, but Roger had made short transfiguration work of a package of cocktail napkins. Asher was fuckin' proud of their (all too likely to fail) ingenuity.

And if their neighbors didn't appreciate the loud music, free of muffling charms that Asher swore distorted the sound, they could join the party or they could put a fuckin' cork in it.
