Who: Open to Ali and Julian's friends
What: Surprise birthday party
When: Tonight at 8pm
Where: Ali and Julian's home

A quiet dinner, just the three of them. That was the plan. It was an early dinner too, to that first restaurant they'd gone in London for New Year's. Julian had said the reservation was earlier than normal-- at 6pm-- because there were no availabilities later in the evening. Why that was on a Thursday evening, he couldn't say, but they enjoyed themselves well, with a lavish dinner and champagne that left them giggling pleasantly as they walked back, arm in arm, towards their house.

But the truth of the early reservation was this: Julian had earlier sent out invitations to all of Alicia's friends, inviting them over by quarter to 8. Emma, his co-conspirator, had snuck in as soon as Julian and Alicia left, armed with decorations and a budget for drinks and food, clearing out the living room and laying out the makings for a party, answering the door as guests trickled in, one by one, and once eight drew near, turned the light down, as though no one had been there since Ali and Julian left, and waited with the rest.

It had been left to Julian to ensure that the timing was perfect on his end. To stall, or linger, as needed. The consummate planner that he was, he'd called ahead and spoken with the maitre d' to devise a meal that would begin promptly at 6 and end promptly at twenty minutes to 8-- enough time to travel between and arrive on time-- courses served on the minute at specified intervals and not earlier or later than.

With a minute or two to spare when they reached the house, Julian stumbled, back against the door, to warn those inside that they were there. He gave Alicia a leisurely kiss, a softly whispered greeting-- "Happy birthday, Ali"-- before he let them in, the door opening to a darkened room now that the sun was down, but revealing, in the flick of a wand that cast everything in light, all of their friends jumping up in unison.

"Surprise!"

Tracey had spent a good part of the last few weeks with Gwendolyn and Isabel making sure that the cocktail party officially unveiling the business owners' group. Attendees were invited to Foxglove, whose patio was now open, and in the cool spring air, with sparkling drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Tracey took the floor half an hour after the evening began to explain the details of the chamber, and how it would work: a small annual membership fee that would go towards chamber activities, events that would be balanced across business training, cross-promotion events, and so on. It took less than half an hour, and once it ended, everyone was allowed to mingle.

Warrington To hell with it, I'm calling you Caleb.

Caleb:

Since the effects don't seem to have worn off this morning, I'm going to assume you have to go to work. I've managed to alter some clothing to fit me-as-you, but if you need anything, I can't believe I'm writing this like bras or other underthings, I'd be willing to provide it for you from what I have here. At least everything would be the right size, then.

Kate,

Rita Skeeter is such a harpy, and the Prophet useful for little more than fish wrap. I'm coming over early today so we can figure out how-- and if-- we want to address these ridiculous accusations. Feels like a day for cocktails at brunch, don't you think?

Angie

Terry,

Rise and shine, cousin of mine. I need you to head over to Katie's so we can talk about the 'article' in today's edition of the Prophet.

The Gladrags' last game had ended in a draw, which-- while not as good as winning-- wasn't an embarrassing outcome, by any means. Angie worked the team a little harder at their weekly practice session, running a few extra drills to make sure everyone ready for next week's match. She still struggled to control her tendency toward perfectionism, reminding herself that the pick-up league was a fun enterprise. So what if their Beaters weren't the most skilled, and their Seeker's performance uneven, and she and Trrry could hardly keep from sniping at each other during practice? It was fine. Everything was fine.

Angelina was hovering low, her attention so focused on the drill some of her teammates were running by the goals, that she had no notion Jack was anywhere nearby until a flicker of motion in her peripheral vision made her turn her head-- just too late to brace herself for impact. Tumbling off her broom, Angelina hit the ground hard, her left elbow and shoulder absorbing most of the impact. Of course I landed on my bad side, she thought. Followed immediately by, Thank Merlin I wasn't flying any higher. And finally, Fuck that hurts.

Sitting up, she tentatively tried to move her arm, wincing as pain shot up from her elbow.

Over the last few months, James had started to have very fond feelings about his newly-adopted team. Though he was sure no other team could compare to his beloved Catapults, his new rapport with staff and players had convinced him that pushing for a successful Hydras team was something James genuinely wanted.

After making sure that preparations were in place for both the private party and the village celebration, James double-checked his pocket square, making sure it wasn't crooked, and waited for the first guests to arrive at the suite.

The Quidditch agency didn't have a business office, as such. For now, they were using Katie's flat above the Magic Neep as a base of operations, but that suited them just fine, as a start-up. Having the greengrocer's downstairs was handy for grabbing a quick snack, and Fromage was just a few doors down, which worked nicely when they needed to work through dinner. Lunch, though, meant someone had to run to the Three Broomsticks and today Angelina had drawn that lot, hurrying through the village and back again with their meals.

Balancing the food with one arm, Angelina pushed open the door to Katie's flat, slipping inside before it could shut on her again. "I've got lunch!" she called, carrying everything over to the table. "Who's hungry?"

After her chance meeting with Mandy Brocklehurst at Qualitea, Angelina had been trying to get back into the routine of working out regularly. In a village filled with cupcakes, scones, and fondue, some kind of exercise was nearly required. Fitting in either a fly or a run had gotten easier now that the weather was marginally warmer, and being her own boss meant setting her own hours, affording Angie the opportunity to go out mid-morning and miss most of the other residents who were trying to stay fit, as well as anyone who worked regular hours.

It didn't mean missing everyone, though. On her way out to the running path by the lake, Angelina usually cut through the park. As she drew near, the sound of someone singing reached her ears, and she glanced around for the culprit as she jogged. It wasn't a bad voice, by any means, but the pastime was just unusual enough that she wanted to know who was doing it. Catching sight of a figure on a bench not far from her, Angie turned, heading in that direction.

After what was quite a busy and hectic week for the shop, the party Romilda'd been planning for ages was finally here. And of course, because the week hadn't been hectic enough, the next two days were set to be Hogsmeade weekends for the students as well. If her own years at Hogwarts were any indication, she hoped to see plenty of business from students looking for a romantic outing. Of course, she'd thus also have to make sure any outings didn't include any antics; the last she needed was to send for Hogsmeade village police.

Tonight, though, wasn't about the students. It was about having a party. After setting up the place much like she had for the previous evenings, Romilda ensured that a dance floor of appropriate size was installed in the main room and that refreshments -- both paid and free, thanks to the town hall funds -- were plentiful. Music played at a volume that was still audible from outside but not too loud as to bother those who lived above the shop.

A few tables remained out in the space, to the side of the dance floor, in case anyone tired of standing and dancing. The place itself was decorated in a tasteful colour palette - she'd purposefully chosen to not use too many pinks or reds, opting for more complementary colours instead.

What: Couples Game
When: Late afternoon to early evening
Where: Qualitea
Rating: ?
Status: Ongoing

The Couples Game started around 7pm, although the couples competing were asked to arrive much earlier to get prepped and ready at 5pm. During the prep period, each half of the couple was pulled aside and asked a series of short questions, their answers written down.

The game took place in Qualitea, with the shop rearranged to have the competing couples in view of the audience. For the first half of the games one-half of the pair was asked the questions, and after a short break where there were small prizes given out to audience members who answered Valentine's and Hogsmeade-related trivia correctly, the game resumed with the other half of the pair answering the questions.

At the end of it, Caleb and Tracey came in first place, with both getting the most right answers when asked, Alexei and Morag came in second, Roger and Merrill third, and Justin and Wayne came in last place, though it had been by a matter of a few points.

Afterward, there were drinks (provided for by the Town Council) for everyone.

Who: Ginny and Angelina
What: catching up
Where: Foxglove
When: Tuesday, February 11

Status: ongoing complete!

Hogsmeade was hardly the same village it had been during Angelina's years at Hogwarts, but the best change, by far, was the addition of Foxglove. Though she managed to keep herself from visiting every day, stopping in a couple times a week was clearly going to become a habit. Given the choice by Ginny of where they should meet to catch up, Angelina chose the cupcakery without a second thought. The obvious choice, her flat, paled in comparison, given its still-cluttered state and lack of delicious baked goods.

So Tuesday afternoon found Angelina at Foxglove, weighing her cupcake options while she waited for Ginny to arrive.
