I'm not entirely sure whether it's appropriate for a proud Englishwoman to participate in celebrating the US Declaration of Independence. Mind you, I do still recall hearing about the centennary when I was eleven and thinking it was a little bit romantic having to overthrow someone, so perhaps I'm simply a bit seditious in that regard.

I have to admit, if I've really just been through a wormhole, I'm a little disappointed that I have no memory of it.

Still, this is a lot more interesting than what I actually had planned for the day. Who needs to bother with port authority when you can travel via Einstein-Rosen Bridge?

Well, the high school is certainly a mess. I imagine there'll be quite some work to do cleaning it up before the new school year begins in two months. The science labs may need to be refurbished completely, possibly the cafeteria kitchen as well. I've offered my assistance in the event that outside contractors prove difficult to pin down, so we shall see perhaps during the next week whether I'll have a summer project - beyond setting four years of English curricula, of course.

In the meantime, however, my house is littered with machine parts and tools. I've returned a few things to where I got them, but with some others it didn't seem feasible. The dealership I borrowed a moped from has had its security completely disabled and windows broken, and no sign of staff, so putting it back would be a little like parking it in the middle of downtown with the keys in the ignition. Perhaps not the wisest course of action if I wish it to be returned to its legal owners.

I hope it isn't too soon to ask for such requests. I understand that everyone is still recovering from the attacks, and I do hope that everyone is well but...

Could anyone here please tell me anything they know about planning a wedding?

I'm engaged. And I've never been... obviously I'm not sure exactly what is required in this day and age and... in this country. I don't want it to be overly fancy. None of my family members are here, so it will certainly be rather emotional. I would just like for it to be very simple if possible. Any ideas would be helpful.

New reports seem to have gone completely silent. Old reports seem to have gone completely silent, for that matter. Has anyone spotted anything out there this morning? If not... the fighting might actually be over. Unfortunately there's still a huge mess. I'll check in with civilian organisations soon to see what sort of clean up they're co-ordinating on a macro level.

In the meantime, roll call? Name and ideally where you're staying at the moment, that way if there are houses no one reports from we can easily check them to see whether they're empty or if someone's unaccounted for. If you have safety concerns about giving your address though just skip that, especially if someone else has already reported from there.

After having been here for five days I ought to locate this house I'm supposedly meant to be living in. At least I can have a long shower without worrying about other people needing the hot water, though it won't help with having worn the same clothes for nearly a week. If I'm lucky there'll be some space I can convert to a workshop. I very much miss having a place where I can work.

If anyone thinks there's any particular device they need constructed, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I could do with the challenge. The most apt word to describe what I do is probably engineering - electrical and mechanical, mainly, but I branch out on occasion. In the meantime, I think I'm due an extremely long nap.

Thanks to Claudia we've figured out a decent solution for people worried about Shifters. It's an app for your phone you can download here. Basically how it works is you register your phone with the central database and then it shows two sections. The first one will have two random words, which is your code. It changes every fifteen minutes no matter what. The second section lets you look up someone in the database and check part of their code. It could be the first word, the second word, or a few random letters. When you look someone up, the app sends an alert to their phone and preserves the code for a few minutes in case they haven't checked it recently, and also issues them a new one, so each one is single use only. Since Shifters can access people's memories this is a bit more secure than relying on secret knowledge or consistent pass phrases to verify someone's identity, but you will still have to make sure your phone doesn't get stolen. If it does, try to get a message to Claudia or me and we'll un-register it from the database. (If you're really lucky we might even be able to track it via cell phone towers, but no promises.)

However, if you do meet a Shifter out there, you might do well to drop my name. It might not do anything, but it might do a lot to help you. Some Shifters can get really messy, shedding skin, killing people for fun, all that gross stuff. I'm not that kind of Shifter, but I could probably help you out if you do happen to find that kind of Shifter lurking around.

As for everyone else, you can't trust anybody. Shifters can look like anyone: a family member, a significant other, a best friend. Use code words, passwords, illogical things that no one could crack unless they specifically know it. Shifters can access a person's memories, so asking them personal questions isn't going to help. If there are any other questions, I'm also sort of fluent in werewolves, ghouls, wraiths, vampires and how to run away from a demon.
