OK, I might be able to comment intelligently on this piece now -- maybe -- so bear with me.

I'm taking Renaissance art history right now and so have been swamped with images of the Passion of Christ, and blasphemous as it might sound, this arrangement just really reminds me of a Deposition scene (where they're taking Jesus down from the cross.) Someone mentioned how Sirius and James look like they're 'cherishing' him, but to me their expressions look almost reverent, and I get almost a quasi-religious sacrificial feel from it.* Snape's expression could be either pain or pleasure, and he looks practically limp except for his fist. I could even make a case for it being an image of Sacred and Profane Love because Sirius just looks like he's holding or supporting Severus, whereas there's no doubt what James is doing. (Hello? Sodomy? Yes, please!) Severus just seems to give off this impression of spiritual/sexual ecstasy.

This is a really powerful drawing, possibly due to (as someone else mentioned) Severus' attitude of total surrender. I know you said you're out of practice and you're obviously going to be really busy, but if you wanted to do something more with this piece -- like take it some weird place -- I would be excited to see it. (Not that I'm not already.)

Again... WHEW! No matter what it reminds me of, I still get hot just looking at it.
