Wow. I'm so glad I stopped in here to see what was going on and didn't miss this gem. I barely read HP fic any longer, but something about the summary attracted me, and the lovely, clean writing style pulled me in when I began to read.

This is just a lovely piece of writing where the narrative flow echoes Sirius' voice and character -- especially here in his pre-Azkaban days -- in such a way that I felt I was inhabiting Sirius, happily along for the ride all the way through. Sirius' POV was the perfect choice because at this stage, he is truly a creature of instinct, he doesn't question things, just goes with the flow, and that's one reason these two usually thorny and implacable characters can come together so easily in this story. The other reason is Severus' wonder-weed. I'm particularly impressed with the beautiful description of Sirius' high and his feelings of well-being and being loved by the universe. I've suffered through my share of fiction workshop drug stories and generally found my professor's judgment to be true: drug trips are never as much fun for the reader as they are for the participants. This story is one of those rare instances where that rule doesn't bear out. It was marvelous to float along with Sirius in a haze of such happiness perhaps remembering some similarly stellar incidents from my own far distant youth. :)

Something like this could easily cause these two characters to veer onto a different path, and it would be wonderful to see more stories/missing scenes arising from this timeline. Thanks for a most enjoyable story and the elegant, inspired writing.
