Oh wow, this is AMAZING. Your writing is just so exact and dryly witty and with so much meaning packed into every sentence. The repetition of "this is wartime" was so nicely done. The entire opening scene is a thing of beauty (and ending with Aberforth's PERFECT line about the goat named Raquel, I just, I can't. *flail*). And the cock cage is so shocking when Kingsley first directs our attention to it, and it's such a stunning plot device, because it seems so out of place and makes no sense in the story, and yet also is perfectly placed and makes perfect sense. I'm a little bit in awe of how you did that.
Amazing characterizations, amazing setting (so dirty and horrible and WAR like, yessssss), and amazing storytelling.
