I dunno if I think it's Hermione's fault necessarily, although that was pretty crappy of her to lead him on in school, but I think Cormac is just enough off his rocker that her actions (and his obsession) pushed him over the edge. This was more of an exploration of the idea that while it's illegal to kill and torture and force ppl to do things (which makes sense), it's apparently okay to forcibly remove people's memories in the WW (O_o).
