Part of what I intended was that Harry would be drawn to things, pulled by visceral emotion and longing that he didn't understand, nor could he identify, but that Snape would instantly recognize, and the onus would be on him: what, if anything, should he do with it.

I've always thought (although it's not always changed how I write) that slash writers soften and overlook the actual physicality of anal sex. Given Snape's position in this one, I thought it'd be something he'd rather enjoy, er, driving home, as well as the idea of his remaining a part of Harry's future encounters, by virtue of being the first. Really appreciate that you caught that as well.

After I'd finished the fic, I did go back and add that kiss, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. This Snape is more disconnected than I usually write him, but after a few days of mulling it over, I decided he'd perhaps entertain that connection as well as Harry; otherwise, he wouldn't have given a damn from the beginning--wouldn't have adjusted what he'd originally had in mind, just because Harry surprised him.

You really gave me a great prompt/scenario to write to. I mentioned to Lee above, but I'm actually fairly wary of Snarry BDSM. Although I know the 'rules' of the safe and consensual culture, I've never believed that this pairing (Snape in particular) wouldn't occasionally bend the rules/rewrite them to suit themselves. Not a real fan of defending their choice to do so in comments, so I've just not played with them srsly in a D/S fic before. This time, I decided to go for it. I hoped readers would understand that Snape really did honor Harry's use of the safe word, and most of them did.

It's not often that I get such detailed and supportive feedback; it was so gratifying to read, and I really appreciate that you took all that time to do it. Well, you're an author, you know how that feels. :) Thanks so much!
