I think certain wanky fans who were wanky really put me off with their declarations of What Is Canon and What Isn't, yanno? Since I freely admit I'm easily intimidated by idiots, it's easier to avoid their stupidity and just write something no one can really question (although they do anyway).
I love writing Ron because he's so easy to mess with, but Hermione's a bit harder for me, esp when I freely admit I have personal issues with Virgos which tend to come out when trying to write them (which is why Percy is always such a schmuck when he's in something I've written). I don't want to be mean to Hermione so I shy away from her (and plus there are so many other Hermione/everyone but the kitchen sink fics out there that it seems like she's covered!).
