I saw the author's name. I saw the kink. I saw THE PAIRING. I immediately threw my work aside, shut my office door, and dug in. What a treat for a Friday afternoon. There's not a sunbeam within leagues of me, but I feel as warm as if I've been basking in one for hours.
I'm bothered by the Sirius-as-bully aspect of canon, so I love when (as here) he's made both flawed and likable/sympathetic in ways that I can believe. No, he's not reformed (nor would he be Sirius if he were), but you've given him so many layers that he's not "just" a bully any more.
And Minerva...oh, my god. Love her, the glimpses of her backstory, her resilience, her unabashed enjoyment of all her physical pleasures.
My patented list of stuff I loved (beyond the whole damn thing):
--How IC they are and yet how believable their pairing manages to be --How you retain the youthful elements of Marauder Sirius and yet make him understandably the product of years of prison and pain. No, not a boy any longer. --The entire ankle/bare foot bit. There's a reason that grown men used to swoon at the sight of a well-turned ankle back in the long-and-voluminous clothing days, and it wasn't just because they couldn't see anything else. You capture the precise sensual appeal so well. --the hair. I admit it, I am a total sucker for these scenes where Minerva's hair tumbles goregously down. Even when it's done cheesily, I love it, and there is nothing cheesy here. (I also love that you don't ignore her age.) --the way you use the heat kink both literally and as a way of developing the characters.
These lines: Or Mc--no, Minerva, who was all right, apart from the stick up her arse, and who sometimes stopped looking at him with disapproval long enough to look at him with sympathy.
far less deserving of the title of 'old bag,' especially when you'd seen her with a wand in her hand and a Death Eater in her sights. I can so see this, yes, I can.
"Oooh, I love it when you talk like a Victorian spinster," he said Oh, god, me too -- especially when it's followed by the hair-comes-tumbling-down scene.
Not that he'd imagined all that much, though there were one or two horrifying teenage dreams that had involved her wearing leather and carrying a whip. My opinion -- here's the prompt for your next DD entry, right here.
