It really does work with the song especially how you've described it here: Their hoofbeats echoed across the valley, muffled by the snow, but still deep and persistent. It does have that wonderfully strong cadence that seems to be building into a dramatic frenzy. *starts up the song again* It's fabulously creative and evocative.
