Awww...I love this Mrs N. Of course, I'm a sucker for Snape/Filch, too, and I like the way you've characterized both of them here: with more layers than their canon counterparts, but still IC.

I definitely see Filch as a voyeur, yet one with his own strict standards (like not being willing to watch Severus). And all the varieties of outsider-ness, from the castle cats to the believable similarities between Severus and Argus.

And your wonderful inventiveness with pairings -- delightful.

Finally, I always like when humorous stories offer a human, serious dimension underneath, as you do here.

There are so many lines I like, that just capture the spirit of the fic and of your version of the characters:

How many poncy pureblood Persians could a single castle be expected to hold during term, anyway?
A perfectly reasonable question, Mrs N, and nicely alliterated.

The part of his brain that had nearly been a Ravenclaw was intrigued; the part that was most firmly Slytherin started to see a range of enjoyable and handy blackmail opportunities.
Perfect House attributes /g/ -- and I always did think Snape would have made a good Ravenclaw.

at it like bowtruckles in mistletoe
haha! That's one of the things I love to do myself, invent aphorisms and proverbs and magical metaphors for the wizarding world. This one is great.

poetic comments on sizes Ah, I knew Argus had the soul of a poet.

there was something sickly fascinating about the drawings of Black and Lupin at it like dogs: quite literally
Perfect

I didn't think you'd be able to top Argus's comments about Dumbledore and Slughorn (and this hilarious line -- with a distended ovoid tacked on to the little figure performing the act from behind a handlebar moustache), but then I came to what might be my favorite moment:

That's the good thing about tentacles, they can curl 'round both sides, can't they? And those little suckers at the end definitely know what to do...
The little suckers! Ahahaha

Well done, Mrs N. Your basket is well-earned.
