I liked that Harry, in spite of his mixed feelings about Snape, and the hint of danger, clearly trusted him on some very basic level. Had he not, I think the experience - even though he found he liked the elements of it - would have been more traumatic for him. His misuse of the safe word, and Snape's honoring it anyway, I believe cemented that trust, even with the dire threats of retribution if he did it again.
