And because it had me thinking:

Sunset, and Sirius is in front of him, coaxing, golden, free. He shoves the flowers and card to Regulus, who frowns and yells, "I'm not someone you can romance!"

Sirius shrugs, smirks. "It was worth a try," he says easily. "Throw it away, if it bothers you. Or," he leans closer, "hold on to it and give it a shot."

Night, and Sirius threads his words with his tongue on Regulus' neck, fingers bruising his brother's wrists. Regulus is horrified to feel his body answering, wondering if Sirius treats his women this way, or if he is rough (even as his kisses are gentle) only because Regulus is his brother. In the darkness, he finds himself not caring.

The note says,
Regulus,
Run away with me.
-Sirius.

Sirius brings life to the words, whispers them to Regulus' ears, "Come with me, they won't find us, and somewhere else we won't have this war."

Regulus closes his eyes, thinks, But somewhere else, we'll still be blood.

Sunrise, and Regulus moves silently to gather his clothes, strewn with ruined pink petals and cum. The card is folded, tucked in his pocket. On the bed, Sirius stretches, pretends to continue sleeping. Regulus keeps looking at him, looking away, waiting for Sirius to keep trying.

Morning, and Regulus is running, running back. The card could have been his one-way ticket to his brother's forgiveness and to his lover's arms. Instead, he thinks of blood, of his family, of this world torn apart by Muggles and Half-Bloods who will never understand that family, loyalty and love are all moulded together like scars. Like wounds.

He wonders if Sirius ever understood that, too.
