[A knock on the door and Eddie shuffles inside. His arms are full of blue prints, he's got a briefcase between his fingers and his violet glasses are on and glowing. He's wearing a sweater vest over a button up shirt, slacks and a bowtie. It's all very nerd professional and hides most of his tattoos save the ones on his hands. His hair is neat, there's that streak of white behind his ear and he seems lively. Eddie does well when he is allowed to plan and if it's for something good, that's even better.]

Heya, pixie boots. [Eddie smiles and takes his glasses off.] I've got an idea I wanted to run past you. [He sets the briefcase and the papers down on a nearby table and then grabs a chair to sit on. An exhale, his speech slows down from that normal, fast talking Gothamite to something more friendly. Personal.] How are you feeling? The docs been good to you?

[Very, very early in the morning, circa 5:30 AM. Left outside the doors to Tony's lab are a vintage card, signed with a 'Your Friend, Steve Rogers' and an old drawing, done in a more cartoonish style for Howard Stark years and years ago (and safely stored by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the interim)—touched up and colored more recently, of course; both pinned atop a wrapped gift: some "super cool" pajamas for the modern adult man. Happy birthday, Tony!

P.S. It's not nice to rip up gifts, so don't tear apart the drawing of your dad, please.]

[Tony instructs JARVIS to call Mary Jane by whatever number is most likely to find her. Probably one that she has on file with Stark Industries or public directory.

8 AM on the dot. The morning after his call to Pepper. Ring.]

It turns up, the way all such things do. Meticulous planning, which means it's in advance of the resignation and the date and the explosion of voice-mail thereafter. It's designed to be put on a keyring or something, small enough to fit between forefinger and thumb and a palm would almost dwarf it. It's meticulous clockwork (it ticks) and glossy metal and smooth gears. It is tiny.

It is on tissue paper, in a small, white box tied with shiny gold ribbon and it has very clearly been forgotten. The note reads simply, 'from Pepper' in type on white card.

[To the mutants]

[Mental: Tentative. It's by no means the mental shout from before but it has the same mental feel, like handwriting looking similar on the page. It's not invasive, a knock at the door rather than a foot in the gap and forcing way through. The feel of it is polite, a little bewildered.]

Are we stuck like this? [And then silence.]

[Using the back entrance he created at Stark, and left just outside his lab. A bottle, but the paper label is pristine, new and it's obviously just been bottled. No card.]

[Still not turning the phone on, so no responses to anything.]

[Ring goes his phone, even though she doesn't know the number, and even though she isn't really on the line. But if he answers, she's there, even if his phone is turned off, disconnected, no longer in service. It's like magic. Around midnight.]
