How do you know if you like someone? Like like them I mean?

We've been through a lot, lately. We've lost loved ones and colleagues, and this war has left gaps behind in our lives, whether it was because someone left Atlantis or because they were lost in the battle. I won't lie and say that those holes ever fill in entirely. My truth is more that you learn to live with them, and you learn how to support the ground that's left, so it doesn't all crumble. There are always going to be moments where I think about the friends I've lost, and one in particular. I often find myself wondering what he would say about the person I am now, about the choices I've made - especially when it's one that has put me in the crosshairs. Birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, all of these moments have a tendency to stir up immense emotions. Or they don't - and that's okay, too.

There's usually a lot of talk about the stages of grief, but I don't like to talk about it that way. That way makes it sound like there's a specific timeline, specific steps we all take, when that is rarely the case. Grief differs between people, it differs day by day, and that's all completely normal. What you feel right now might be different from the person next to you. It might be different from how you feel tomorrow, or a week from now, or six months from now. It's not linear in the way we've been lead to believe. Sometimes you cycle back to emotions you've already felt. Anger, regret, helplessness, betrayal, loneliness, isolation, disbelief, even thankfulness - this can all be part of the process. You might have trouble sleeping. Your appetite might change. You might just feel tired, or maybe you'll feel energized and like you can accomplish a whole lot in one day. You might be angry at the person who is gone, or at those who took them from you, or at yourself for thinking you didn't do enough. There's no one way to grieve for someone or something.

Lean on each other. Be patient with one another. And remember our doors are open for anyone who wants to talk. Or you can message me here if that's more comfortable.

I know Chris wasn't the captain that you remember but he felt that you were all part of his crew. As I told Michael he was working on a history of Starfleet and hopefully once we can get back into housing, I can find the manuscripts. He would want the stories to live on and I would like for the three of you to write your own stories in it, the stories of your journeys with your Captain Pike. We're all a family, no matter where or when we come from. I don't want that to change and neither would Chris. I'm so glad that I have to chance to know you.

You know how much you meant to Chris, you were a son to him and I know that you'll miss him. There are some things of his that he would want you to have and once I can get back into housing, I will put them together for you. Lauren has already asked me when she can see Uncle Jim, and I told her that hopefully soon. I have mentioned this to the Discovery crew and I'd like you to be part of it too. Chris was working on a history of Starfleet and I'd like you to write your own memoris in it too, memories of him and what he was like. I would be honored if you'd help me finish it because that's what he would have wanted.

Nothing anyone says will be of help, but it helps to know we're not alone in our loss. We've all felt it, or we will. Let's remember that, and let's not let anyone feel alone in their grief. Let's not let anyone forget they are loved.

How are you two holding up? If there is time as soon as I've done all I can about Intake I think I'm going to move to help out in medical. They must be in desperate need and I'm sure my work will only take us so far. But I'm not giving up. I'll exhaust all avenues first, don't worry.

It's been a rough night, we've suffered loses. My personal condolences to those that have lost family and friends. We all feel your pain.

Sharon's mentioned what we're doing with Mako. We've set up a hospital on THE island, a safe place for kids and pets as well as homes.

If you are considering going, please arrive at the Mako entrance by 10:00 in the village. This is not the last time you'll be able to go, but it will be the first wave and I strongly encourage anyone who thinks they can help at the hospital or keep the children and pets safe on Mako to go. We need support there.

There will be other group trips to Mako and you'll get encrypted information when they are.

Be safe everyone, and keep your eyes open. We will not let COS take us down.

Got another nosy question for some of you, since I'm coming up on a year here in Atlantis. (At least a year that I've been cognizant of.) How much do people remember of Breckentale? Everything? Or is it fading at all over time?

Usually I count myself lucky when I escape Atlantis' ... antics... but apparently Lauren is rather disappointed that neither of her parents are carebears today.

Thirty years in Starfleet did not prepare me for "Papa, but WHY can't you be a carebear?"

Apparently being a human father is a disappointment.

I have never had a toothache hurt like this one! I woke up with it, took something and went to work and it got worse. I finally got someone to look at it but as soon as they decided to pull it, the pain stopped.

Which makes no sense at all. I mean, come on, pain doesn't just magically go away. Although considering where we are, maybe it does. The trip to the beach in the rain made even less sense but oh well.

[ PLOT :: ♆ - ONE CHARACTER EACH wakes up this morning with an incredibly painful toothache. If you go to medical, they eventually figure out they need to pull your tooth! The second they get close to pulling it the pain goes away, and you find yourself transported to the beach. ]

Ezio and Leonardo were our first friends here - we were all friends in that alternate reality or whatever the hell that was before the two of us actually woke up in Atlantis.
