News: Marvel - Sunday morning 1/4/2015
[Sunday morning the hot ticket story on the cover of the New York Times is the sudden resignation of HON. DOUGLAS E. MAYHILL Administrative Judge of the 1st Judicial District in the Civil Branch of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County.
The resignation comes first thing in the morning, by the lunch hour the story continues to unfold as reports of an investigation into Judge Mayhill by the US Securities and Exchanges Commission into allegations relating to practices that may be considered violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act begin to surface.
In addition to the SEC investigation, further allegations of wrongdoing are surfaced just five minutes after the 6 PM news begins, pre-empting any and all feel good stories about two legged dogs learning to walk on their hind legs in the Bronx. The new allegations cover everything from election fraud on a state and federal level to allegations of racketeering, accepting bribes. There are even reports linking some of the crimes to two, relatively new and low level, public defenders, and perhaps most surprisingly there are links to one two term New York City Councilman and minority leader Jim Coulton from Staten Island. None of those parties could be reached for comment.
As of the 11 PM news the only statement from Mayhill comes through his attorney which stated that his resignation was not an admission of guilt but rather a necessary step in ensuring that he can focus all of his time and energy proving his innocence and that the city of New York deserved an Administrative Judge who was willing and able to dedicate their full attention to the important job done by the New York State Supreme Court in New York County.
The interim replacement for Judge Mayhill the HON. CHRISTINE F. SULLIVAN was listed as "Acting Administrative Judge" on the court's website, with a small formal announcement on the front page by 11:59 PM EST on Sunday night.]
