[Gus was thrilled to hear that Beth was coming over (it was going to take some time to ease him into 'Elizabeth') and Luke only touched upon the age difference before giving up. Trying to explain time and years vs months to a five-going-on-six year old was near impossible. He figured kids just accepted stuff like that easier than adults did, so he'd let them work it out for themselves. And it would be nice, he thought, for Gus to have another playmate his age. The kid made friends with every animal he came across but having a few human friends to balance it out couldn't hurt, and at least people could talk back.

Lia was down for her nap, and Luke had the baby monitor nearby, so the TV was on low while Gus munched on Christmas cookies (store bought, thanks, he wasn't risking homemade cookies and a possible kitchen fire this close to the holidays) and watched Rudolph. Or maybe it was Frosty. Some cartoon, anyway. The dogs were curled up next to him, as they usually were, and Luke was on the couch trying to stay awake. He hated crashing on his days off, because it was time he'd rather be spending with his family than asleep, but Wren was at work and even though he'd texted her about Ella and Beth coming over, he couldn't distract her forever (as much as he wanted to), plus Finch's weight was on his feet and he was comfortable enough that a nap seemed plausible.

Coffee. He needed coffee. He gently disentangled himself, climbed over the back of the couch, and padded into the kitchen. Not a bad idea; maybe Ella would want some, too.]

I would call, but I don't know Captain America's number, I don't think.
