[This wasn't the first
date Eddie had taken Stephanie on, even if it certainly
felt like it was. Years ago, by the time they had started dating, it was a few months into the relationship and it seemed completely superfluous. Now, it was a novelty. A necessary novelty that would force them to take it slow long enough to get to know each other again. To Eddie, it felt like a brass ring he was supposed to grab the first time around on a carousel even if he was in no condition to even go on the goddamned ride. But, here he was, trying his very hardest to do something incredibly normal.
He parked outside of Stephanie's clinic, dressed
snappy because he hadn't been able to wear his suits in a
month. Or at least that's what he told himself. Eddie used the same excuse for rolling up to her clinic in his
Green '66. But, he wasn't fooling anyone. He was showing his best self as most people do on their first dates. He was trying to impress her, even if perhaps that wasn't really necessary.
Eddie turned the car off and popped the glove box, taking out one of the crossword puzzles he missed while he was gone. Paper and pencil were antiquated things in the modern age, but there wasn't really anything like filling out those little squares with the right answer.]
