I've been on OKCupid for about 2 4 months now, but I'm picky and haven't been on that many dates for it. Soooo I've been talking to a doctor on there for just a few days, mostly chatting about our backgrounds and such. We met up for dinner last night.

He's a podiatrist! Which isn't a specialty I was very familiar with until last night. Did you know that it's the most important type of medicine? Because our feet are our foundations! I know more about corns than I'd ever wanted to learn, despite being a nurse, and he made a foot pun nearly every 5 minutes. With each one, I thought, surely there aren't that many foot puns. But no, there was always one more.

Oh and he ordered for me and said "you don't mind, right? It must be nice to have a man take charge in your life occasionally."

So I apologize for the minor nervous breakdown at yoga this afternoon. The puppies were incredibly overwhelming and comforting even if I wasn't in a good headspace or able to distance myself at the door.

Or apparently stop myself from putting in adoption paperwork at the shelter on my way back at work and coming home with a new family member.

Her name is Maya and she's perfect and sweet and I'm calling in sick tomorrow because I can't bear to leave her.

Third place isn't so bad. Guess I'm not as out of shape as I thought I was. I might actually start swimming more regularly. And maybe quit smoking while I'm at it. Congratulations to first and second place and everyone else who swam.

Considering I entered on a whim and it's not my sport, I'm pretty pleased with fifth place in the swim race. I would have been happy not to have drownded but this is better.

Seriously debating on adopting a pet... I just don't know if my apartment would let me have them.

It's National CBD Day, and National Happiness Happens Day!! Somehow, I can't help but think those two are mutually exclusive (at least for today). Val, wanna make your girlfriend extra happy today??

I think I need a night out soon. Something that is nice, innocent fun. I've been wrapped up so much in work and getting ready for school that I just... I need the relaxation, I think.

Why did I ever make any of the English faculty my Facebook friends? For every one of them who's an interesting, well-read, thoughtful, empathetic person, there's another who's a crusty old Ivory Tower academic who hasn't revised his curriculum since Paradise Lost was written and wants to proudly call himself a "grammar nazi." Every time another meme pops up that comes down to "you damn kids get off my language lawn," they share it, and it makes me want to go extra rounds at the boxing gym.

I've tried to explain prestige dialects and the evolution of language and the evolution of teaching language until I'm blue in the face, but do they listen? Do they even pretend to listen? No, they just start yapping about "the real world" like they've ever even lived in it.

Pro tip: Correcting someone else's spoken usage of language (unless they're your child or they've asked you to) says a lot more about the person doing the correcting than it does about the person being corrected.

It's still amazing to think that I'm growing a life inside of me.

It's so exciting. Tiny can see light now, and their tastebuds will be forming. And, soon we'll be able to know whether they're a boy or a girl.
